Death/doom shit

Just some of my favorite death doom albums. Please check any you haven't heard or rec me some based on these!
1Sempiternal Deathreign
The Spooky Gloom

1989. Man this is like one of the first real death doom albums ever. The doom riffs feel bit more Sabbath-y to my ears compared to a lot of later albums in the genre.

Transcendence into the Peripheral

1993. Awwww yiss. Probably one of the most influential albums in this genre as well as funeral doom, this thing feels absolutely otherworldly. Love the reverb-soaked production and the haunting melodic guitars during a lot of the doomier parts. And when this thing decides to blast, it BLASTS.
4Decomposed (UK)
Hope Finally Died...

1993. This one is really neat, they get really creative with their melodies and and are all over the place temp-wise. Feels a bit more technical than average for the genre.
5Mangled Torsos
Drawings of the Dead

1994. This band brings in some some extra elements at times like synths and acoustic guitar. Also the vox are really fucking gutteral and gross (in a good way!) at points. Also it blasts. Good shit.
6Winter
Into Darkness

1990. This thing is grimy as hell and it rules, feels like you're wading through icy sludge. There's weird guitar noises and keys sometimes that are very cool.
7Horrified
In the Garden of the Unearthly Delights

1993. A very melodic and sometimes gothic one here, almost all the riffs are some twin guitar harmonies whether it's a doom passage or a galloping fast section. Also some extra instrumentation like synths or flute are added to the mix at times. Very unique entry.
8Schaliach
Sonrise

1996. A Christian band oh my. This one is an interesting blend of doom and melodic death metal, taking from the latter genre before it got bad. Also the dude mainly behind it has been a longtime member of Extol.
9Rippikoulu
Musta Seremonia

1993. Heavyyyyy as fuck man. Probably one of the best-sounding death metal demos ever.
10Incantation
Diabolical Conquest

1998. Another duh entry. Although this probably wouldn't be most people's first pick for this band, it might be my favorite just because I love Dan Corchado on vox and the last third of the album being a 16-minute epic is hard to top.
11Gorement
The Ending Quest

1994. Hard to really call this a death doom album but there are enough doomy segments that I figured I'd include it. It has a very gloomy and melancholic vibe with a lot of very gothic-sounding melodies.
12Unholy (FIN)
From the Shadows

1993. Man this thing is a journey. It rarely gets very fast, but we get a lot of additional elements that really add the the overall vibes. Clean vox, synths, organ and more all while maintaining an oppressive as fuck atmosphere.
13Esoteric
Esoteric Emotions - The Death of Ignorance

1993. This demo is not my favorite Esoteric release, but it's definitely the most pure death doom material they've ever put out. Incredibly heavy and varied with lots of nice changes of pace. Also very long at almost 80 minutes, but worth every second.

1992. This this is sick. Progressive, melodic, thrashy, doomy, magical.

2016. oh I guess we had to do some past the 90s eventually. A couple of the dISEMBOWELMENT guys made a new band that sounds like dISEMBOWELMENT. Mostly. This has some of the best metal production I've heard and the riffs god they're good.
16Spectral Voice
Eroded Corridors of Unbeing

2017. More dISEMBOWLENT worship, this time from a couple members of Blood Incantation. It kicks ass as you might expect.
17Swallowed
Lunarterial

2014. This thing is pure fucking evil. Wholly convinced there are no actual instruments involved and this is just the sounds of the members summoning Moloch or something

To Starve the Cross

2016. This band might've gotten clowned on a lot for some choppy songwriting and some pretentious musings from their frontman but I've always found a lot of fun from these dudes anyway, sounds like they took their favorite parts of Decomposed and Gorement and threw them in a blender to make a smoothie but they didn't blend it long enough so it's still a bit chunky. I kinda like it like that tho
20Worm
Foreverglade

2021. Really cool and gloomy album and neat transition from a band that used to play black metal. Really nice melodic sensibilities and some of the solos here absolutely shred. Unfortunately we may not hear any more of this from them because they've transitioned back into symphonic black metal
21Reverence To Paroxysm
Lux Morte

2023. Holy FUCK this thing is sick. Rippikou and Gorement vibes but less of the latter's melancholy in favor of being just heavy as all hell. One of the best death doom albums in recent memory

Forgot a couple lol. 1993. We got another Christian band here this time with a more traditional death doom route, hella heavy with some sick mid-paced romps here and there. The blood of Jesus grants us hella riffs

2019. Another really great recent band doing the name of death doom extreme justice. Really love this artwork too
