Megadeth vs. Metallica - Final Round

Previously compared the discographies for these monsters of metal/pioneers of thrash. Megadeth barely eeked out a win (8 to 6) based on a more consistent discography than Metallica’s. But how about the new albums - does 72 Seasons bring the win to Metallica? or does Megadeth take the cake. Will make this album worth 2 points. Some factors to consider below.
1Metallica
72 Seasons

Vocals. Hetfield vs. Mustaine? Personally, I feel that Mustaine's vocals are getting a bit rough - and they were never exemplary to begin with. Whereas, Hetfield sounds really good on 72 Seasons. This one goes to Metallica for me.
2Megadeth
The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!

Lyrics: Hetfield vs. Mustaine? I'm a bigger fan of lyrics with greater meaning, in comparison to delving into personal issues/hells. Have to generally go with Mustaine in most cases, including this.
3Metallica
72 Seasons

Riffing/rhythm guitars: Hetfield vs. Mustaine? Riffing is good on both albums - but really dig the Sabbathian riffs and grooves on 72 Seasons. This one goes to Metallica for me.
4Megadeth
The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!

Solos/lead guitars: Hammett vs Kiko? No competiion - the solos on The Sick are excellent. The solos on 72 Seasons are generally uneventful and unmemorable. No surprise here - this goes to Megadeth by a long shot.
5Metallica
72 Seasons

Bass: Trujillo vs. Di Giorgio (with Mustaine providing add’l bass)? Let's face it - Robert Trujillo is a beast on the bass. This one is an easy win for Metallica; but nothing wrong with the bass on The Sick.
6Megadeth
The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!

Drums: Ulrich vs. Dirk Verbeuren? Once again, no competition. Any MDM drummer (ex- Soilwork) destroys Ulrich's simple, frequently awkward rhythms.
7Metallica
72 Seasons

Production: Fidelman vs. Mustaine/Rakestraw? Both productions are pretty good - nothing to complain about. Thank God no "brickwalling" or high hats on 72 Seasons. This is a draw.
8Megadeth
The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!

Run length: 77:14 vs 62:39 (deluxe ed.)? 72 Seasons seems to drag a bit - similar to Death Magnetic, have to divide this into two sides. The Sick, although a wee bit long, flows pretty well - this one goes to Megadeth for me. Weird that one of the best tracks (We'll Be Back) is towards the end of the Sick.
9Metallica
72 Seasons

Tone? Similar to production - Nothing to complain about. But I do prefer Metallica’s heavier (more bass) guitar tones in comparison to Megadeth’s higher pitched (more treble) guitar tones.
10Megadeth
The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!

Length of individual tracks? Yeah - the tracks on 72 Seasons are a bit long - but this doesn't really bother me. Megadeth tracks certainly don't wear out their welcome. Tend to slighly favor Megadeth here.
11Metallica
72 Seasons

Album Packaging? 72 Seasons has a pretty sweet digipack. The photos are a bit of a strange pick - but the album opens up well. Megadeth album is a bit stock.
12Megadeth
The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!

Album Artwork? On the other hand - the bright yellow of 72 Seasons is really off-putting. I understand what Metallica was going for, but for some reason it just doesn't work. Much prefer the artwork on the Megadeth CD - with Vic Rattlehead making another strong presence.
13Metallica
72 Seasons

Album sales? There is no way that Metallica (146,000 copies in the first week and debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200) sells less than Megadeth (48,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at position No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart) - this easily goes to Metallica.
14Megadeth
The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!

Guest spots? Well - none on 72 Seasons. Ice-T and Sammy Haggar on The Sick. And Ice-T’s guest spot enhances the track Night Stalkers. Goes to Megadeth.
15Metallica
72 Seasons

Memorability? To be seen. There are songs that stick with me on both albums. For example: The SIck (We'll Be Back) and 72 Seasons (If Darkness Had a Son).
16Megadeth
The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!

Listenability? Similar to Album length - The Sick is an easier listen. This one goes to Megadeth for me.
