Matty's Top 100 Records of the Year! #75-51

We're starting to get into the cream of the crop from this year! Some of the year's best releases, hope y'all enjoy!
25Somewhere South of Here
Leave Me for the Crows

#75 - A sputnik release that defies expectations. Really love the punk vocals, the instrumentals are super tight and fun. Every song seems to have its own unique identity along with really fleshed out lyrics.
24Electric Callboy
TEKKNO

#74 - It doesn't get any more fun nor German than this record. So many bumping hits, so much laughter and goofiness, how can you not love it?
23Deserta
Every Moment, Everything You Need

#73 - I feel like I'm driving through a desert on a cold night when I put this record on. Very emotional, very serene yet haunting at times.
22Domestic Terminal
All The Stories Left To Tell

#72 - Highly emotive, really awesome instrumental and vocal performances. Had I not joined sputnik, I would have probably never heard this record so I'm very glad to have experienced this!
21Pinegrove
11:11

#71 - One of the most surprising records for me this year. Wasn't initially thrilled with it but after a few listens I really love the simplicity of the instrumentals, really love the vocal performances.
20The Machinist (USA-NY)
All is Not Well

#70 - A very small metalcore/deathcore band out of New York made waves with intense vocals, really punchy production to compliment the bombastic drums and dirty guitar riffs. Really awesome stuff!
19Valleyheart
Heal My Head

#69 - A really lovely record with some of my favorite vocal performances of the year as well as some of the most intriguing and heartfelt lyrics.
18Cancer Bats
Psychic Jailbreak

#68 - Canadian stoner's return with a really great crop of songs.
17Soul Blind
Feel It All Around

#67 - Extremely nostalgic, big 90's alt rock feels to it. Really love the melody choices, really love how dense and thick the guitar tones are. A really fun record!
16Royal Coda
To Only a Few at First

#66 - Swancore act Royal Coda with their sophomore release improve on their established formula with better hooks, better instrumentals and just better songwriting overall.
15Windwaker
Love Language

#65 - The debut record for Windwaker explores the elements that have captured the attention of the post hardcore/metalcore scene of late. Big melodies, really dynamic vocals and an unwillingness to be pigeonholed in a stale genre, employing electronics into some of their tunes.
14Norma Jean
Deathrattle Sing for Me

#64 - One of the year's most elite and acclaimed metalcore releases. A lot to love here even though I find it a bit long. The band continues to create excellent songs with bite, edge and visceral energy.
13Taylor Swift
Midnights

#63 - I guess it's controversial to enjoy this record but I can't help it. I love the songwriting; I love the lyricism and Taylor's voice sounds excellent. Love the blend of all the genres that she's explored in recent years.
12Devin Townsend
Lightwork

#62 - Heavy Devy!
11She Must Burn
Umbra Mortis

#61 - One of a few deathcore releases on this year end list. Featuring some heavy synth and symphonic elements similar to that of Lorna Shore yet a bit less insane, definitely some Cradle of Filth vibes sprinkled here and there as well.
10Denzel Curry
Melt My Eyez See Your Future

#60 - Denzel continues to be one of the most consistent rappers in the game delivering more great hooks, thick beats and fantastic features.
9AVOID
Cult Mentality

#59 - Just a really fun metalcore record.
8Valiant Hearts
Yonder

#58 - Soaring vocal melodies, complex guitar leads and quickfire drumming. One of the years pristine post-hardcore records with extra focus on melody and catchiness.
7Conway The Machine
God Don't Make Mistakes

#57 - The second and final Conway record to appear on this list, this one being more singular and focused on his style of production with introspective lyricism and harsher beats.
6Rolo Tomassi
Where Myth Becomes Memory

#56 - Mathy with an elegant/enchanting duality. Lots of dense riffs and big breakdowns but surely without softer dynamics and excellent vocal performances!
5Charlotte Adigery/Bolis Pupul
Topical Dancer

#55 - Completely entrancing, catchy, forward thinking and quick witted. The lyrics are a bit tongue-in-cheek, the beats and melodies are infectious, Charlotte's voice matches the energy perfectly.
4Angel Olsen
Big Time

#54 - Olsen goes a bit more into americana/country territory with this one, her singer/songwriter excellence still completely intact. The lyrics are deep and meaningful, the instrumentals are lush and extravagant. Really great stuff!
3Septicflesh
Modern Primitive

#53 - Bombastic, insanely fast and powerful. Septicflesh seem to have the entirety of symphonic death metal in their pocket concocting some of their best material yet with some incredibly clear and crisp production.
2Dance Gavin Dance
Jackpot Juicer

#52 - The current most hated band in the scene still manages to put out a really solid album with Tim's last performances really being highlighted throughout the excessive track list. A bit overlong at 18 songs but there's certainly some of the band's most fleshed out and well written songs to date.
1The Weeknd
Dawn FM

#51 - The Weeknd comes out with one of his most cohesive and interesting projects to date. While it doesn't have some of the bonafide smash hits that his previous records have, this one has better consistency and flows better in it's concept.
