By popular demand: List of Certified Knocky™ bands
A list of dope (or... knocky) bands I've discovered in the last 6 months. Pretty much all with a somewhat similar sound.
Not necessarily an exhaustive or finished list; in no particular order.
Feel free to leave relevant recommendations in comments! |
1 | Shiner
Chief among them. See my comments on Lula Divinia and The Egg's review pages for inane rants about how much I love them. |
2 | Failure
First of these bands I got into. Fantastic Planet is... well... knocky. Or even Fantastic. Take your pick. In seriousness, it's one of my all time favorites. |
3 | Autolux
Probably the chillest / most shoegazey band on this list, but I'll allow it.
Fun fact: The drums on Mount Hopeless by Melody's Echo Chamber (off of their awesome s/t album) sound almost exactly the same as the drums on Turnstile Blues. |
4 | Castor
One of the most recent bands I've gotten into. I tried them awhile back to no avail, but something clicked this time around. Potentially for fans of Shiner |
5 | Houston
Any band with Allen Epley's blessing is probably badass, these guys were no exception. |
6 | The Stella Link
Somewhat little known band but they have some slappers for sure. Great drums, melodies, and overall mathy, maybe even proggy sound. |
7 | The Life and Times
Frontman Allen Epley's follow up project to Shiner's original run. Naturally, they kick ass. |
8 | Frodus
Quintessentially knocky band. I think I read that they had a substantial influence on Million Dead (the following feature on this list) and it's definitely evident, especially in vocal delivery. |
9 | Million Dead
Probably the most aggressive sound of any of these bands. Great fun. |
10 | Narrow Head
Newest band on this list! Cool underwater sounding shoegazey... sound. |
11 | thistle
Brought to sputnik by yours truly :D
Have only spun their lone LP a couple times, but "Coffin Notes" stacks up pretty well with any one track by any band on this list |
12 | Chavez
Can't think of any much interesting to say about them, but cool band.
"Lions" in particular is knocky as fug |
13 | Nemo
𝘕𝘰𝘵 the prog rock / metal outfit here on Sputnik that is inexorably linked.
Only place I've been able to find their stuff is on Youtube. They've got an album called In Stereo. Sublime heavy and spaced out sound, and masterful drums. |
14 | Shellac
I should have amended this weeks ago when I discovered these guys cuz it's a sin to not have this band on here, they are THE quintessential
