XyphDryne: Five famous metal/rock riffs/songs I never liked

JKing92 03.10.22	I don't think I'd say I dislike any of these riffs, but I will share my opinions on 1-4 (can't remember how 5 goes): 1. Not my favorite song on Ride the Lightning, but I do love this track a lot. "Creeping Death" probably has the best riff on the album, though. 2. Yeah, I get you here. My big problem with Pantera is that, while the Abbott brothers (RIP) contributed some cool guitar and drum parts, Phil Anselmo's tough guy posturing has always been quite off-putting to me. The fact that his style has been ripped off by lunkheaded frat metal hacks like Randy Blythe does not endear him to me either (nor do his politics -- but I'd rather not get into that). 3. Once again, understandable. I like the song, but it's definitely one of the tracks I play less on Paranoid. 4. I actually enjoy the presence of this here, partially because I can hardly think of a one-hit wonder that's been more played out by classic rock radio. The fact that people try to act as if Deep Purple were somehow instrumental in the development of heavy metal (clearly ignoring the contributions of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, and even bands and artists before them like Jimi Hendrix and Cream) is very amusing to me. Revisionism at its finest (see also, the bewildering Third Eye Blind nostalgia that has come up in recent years). As for a famous rock/metal riff I never liked -- "Eruption" by Van Halen. If there was ever a riff that paved the way for so much overwrought guitar showboating in hard rock music, it would probably be this. rockarollacola 03.11.22	Nailed it with 2. Dimebag was a very talented man, but god the music he wrote with Panterrible after CBFH furiously sucked cock. The riff in Walk is the sonic incarnation of retardation.

ReturnToRock 03.11.22	I really like the 4 out of these 5 that I'm aware of. I would say the riff and vocal cadence in Iron Man being the same just makes it heavier, and it makes the song sound like the robot's steps as it chugs along.
