CreamCrazy's Albums Of 2008

Well... it's December & the end of 2008 is upon us in 25 days. Seeing as their are no other albums I wanna get hold of (minus Lazarus Bird) that means I have to put up what my Albums of 2008 list is. This list IS ordered, & contains EVERY album I have listened to in it's entirety this past year.
1The Butterfly Effect
Final Conversation of Kings

For only the 2nd time, I have to thank Sputnik for getting me into something (The First being Dream
Theater). My brother told me to look for some new bands to get into after I had a boredom slump with
music. I saw these guys in a list with this album included & went to their Myspace to have a listen, & my
god? I heard beauty in music before my ears. I had never, ever heard these guys before this & all I can
say is after hearing their old stuff as well, this album beats their other stuff into the ground. The songs
on
this album sound so grand & it also shows me what this band has become, which is a band that plays
unique music? this album is one of the most refreshing albums I?ve heard in a long time. Australia
FINALLY after all these years has a band that they can be proud of (out of the ones I know about), & it?s
The Butterfly Effect. Deserving of my Album Of The Year
2R.E.M.
Accelerate

It?s almost a perfect album (by R.E.M.?s standards) & the best thing they have done since Up, which
many
of their fans have been waiting for so long to hear. This album sees R.E.M. do just good Rock Songs this
time, not country inspired folk tunes of old or the combined madness of sounds that formed Up &
Reveal.
Basically it?s Monster but a million times better & it doesn?t suck balls. R.E.M. have an album that
literally
puts a big smile on my face every time I listen to it. Which is a good thing.
3Guns N Roses
Chinese Democracy

I was born 2 months after Use Your Illusion I & II, the last albums of new GNR material were released,
17
years & 2 months later? we got Chinese Democracy? was it worth the agonizing wait? FUCKING HELL
YES! I?m not a huge fan on GNR? however for the historical purpose of it, I had to have this album. I had
never listened to a GNR album in its entirety before this (Appetite For Destruction wasn?t to my liking)?
&
this has blown me away. It?s probably due to the modern sound that it has because I have always
connected more to things like that. Axl?s vocals may at times not be all that good but he manages to
show
all the emotions a human voice can display through singing, the instruments? well? they are incredible,
Slash may have been great for GNR however though for me the technical riffs & solos included here are
right up my street of dreams for what guitaring heaven is. Well done Axl & the gang? all the trouble you
went through for this has surely paid off in my eyes.
4Oasis
Dig Out Your Soul

Oasis, back with an album, which in my opinion should truly be hailed as the album that makes them
big
again, well, that is correct. Finally Oasis have an album out that the fans know is good, unlike their
previous efforts since Be Here Now, which have been mediocre to say the least. Dig Out Your Soul
returns
them to the real rock driven sound that Morning Glory & Definitely Maybe had all over them. The songs
are
different not just in sound but in mood as well, which offers a range of styles, which makes this a great
listen. Welcome back Oasis, I knew you could deliver something great.
5Protest The Hero
Fortress

Metal Album Of The Year, no argument to that. The technical prowess this band has, has gotten so
much
better on Fortress, & Rody?s vocals? well? they?re fucking mind-blowing? This band have surely
breathed
life into a metal scene which has been slowly decaying over the years with some but not much talent
breaking through it, because this album is like a breath of fresh air, it makes you realize there is still
talent
in this world & these guys are showing bucketfuls of it.
6Sevendust
Chapter VII: Hope And Sorrow

This album was a big surprise, seriously. I had never listened to any Sevendust material until this, I only
took interest because of Mark Tremonti & Myles Kennedy were contributing to the two respective title
tracks, it made me want to get this with only that interest & liking Prodigal Son, the first single after
listening to it on their Myspace. This album immediately hit me with a ton of bricks with the hard,
heavy
opener Inside which blew my brain open with it?s speed & hardness, Mark Tremonti?s solo on Hope
made
me almost faint & Prodigal Son as I already knew owned. However it wasn?t until I heard Myles
Kennedy?s
contribution to Sorrow did I fully love this album, Lajon is a great vocalist I can give him that, but Myles
singing does make this song complete. His voice just adds so much emotion & depth to the sound of
the
whole song, which Lajon on his own sometimes doesn't manage to achieve. Overall, the album was a
joy
to listen to & I would gladly listen like to hear more of the same brilliant material from these guys in
the
future.
7Scar Symmetry
Holographic Universe

2nd Best Metal Album Of The Year (Fuck Opeth), the guitars & vocals are what make this album shine
above most of 2008?s releases that I?ve heard. Christian Alvestam is an amazing vocalist, where his
growls,
screams & clean singing all sound great & makes the album a pleasure to listen to, now that he?s gone
I?m
not sure Scar Symmetry will have another album that could have a shot of topping this, but only time
will
tell.
8Metallica
Death Magnetic

Well, well, Metallica, it looks like you?re back, & this time it?s great music you produce. Death Magnetic
is a
well done return to form for the Thrash Metal Pioneers, & they re-discovered their form by returning to
what made them famous in the first place, which was fast guitars, powerful bass & heavy drums.
Although
like always James? vocals aren?t as good as the band he?s in, but unlike some of the early ?Tallica
material &
most of the work after The Black Album his vocals hold up really well as he manages to continue his soft
powerful vocals with fast paced singing on some songs. Welcome back to musical glory Metallica, it?s
well
worth the wait.
9Shinedown
The Sound Of Madness

After Us & Them, an album which I literally fell in love with on my first listen & still do love to this day, I
was expecting huge things from the follow-up to that, I loved this album when I first heard it, calling it
an
amazing Hard Rock Album & my Album of 2008 at one point. However, I then realized that at the end
of
the album, two songs spoiled it for me? (What A Shame & Breaking Inside). Those songs ruined what
was
a brilliant album, I also lost some of the original enthusiasm I had for it. However that doesn?t mean it
doesn?t deserve the well-fought place in this list that it has.
10Smashing Pumpkins
American Gothic - EP

So what that it?s an EP & it has 4 songs? it?s on this list regardless. Anyway, hearing SP acoustically on
this EP was a first for me as I hadn?t heard it, for me it turned out to be extremely relaxing & calming
to
hear, the songs were nice to listen to when all you want to do is listen to some music whilst lying down,
as
it can slowly drift you off into a peaceful sleep & as it?s only 4 songs long, you won?t miss any of it
because
it would?ve ended just as you go into slumber. It?s a vast change from the music I normally hear from
SP,
however it does echo Adore in its musical beauty
