It's spoken word house written after the suicide of his best friend and extremely gut punching. This is definitely the album from this year where everyone should be aware of

But “one thing led to another” and after a couple of highly regarded early singles and an appearance on Later…with Jools Holland, the record is now primed for release on 26 March on September Recordings [where he now shares management with the likes of Adele and Glass Animals]. It is fair to say that early responses have been strong, especially in regard to the song ‘I Have a Love’, which addresses Curran directly.

Still good though. 3.6/5 “Portobello Superhero” Confident and jazzy intro. This is good, but it's not really unique or memorable? Those bleep-bloops at the end are neat though. Nothing bad about this, so uh here's your score. 3.5/5

Chatterton - Monde Nouveau: ridiculously catchy pop song, even though it doesn't really take that many unexpected turns (not nearly as many as the album eventually does). 4.5/5 Palais d'Argile: 4/5 4. For Those I Love - I Have a Love: i had really difficult time getting into this song when it first dropped (and Pang hyped the shit out of it). the sentiment is admirable, but the lyrics and the humourless, straightfaced bluntness of the delivery are all just so funny. the album is no better, as it's the same thing with occasionally curious production choices, dragged out and sterilised. 2.5/5 album: 2.5/5

Finally, the song is just too long (original or cover), I got so bored and by the 5 minute mark it just felt like nothing interesting was happening. 2.5

Kinda turned into a generic shoegaze song honestly. 3.2/5 "Early Age Death" Space rap. Is this supposed to be funny? His lyrics are pretty humorous and meme-ish. He appreciates Donald Trump? This has to be satire. Calling your competition gay as an insult? I... uh idk, I'm assuming this is an intentional joke song, so I'll give it a positive score cuz it made me laugh. 3/5 "p i c k i t u p" I don't like these vocals at all. Oh god those anthemy pop punk vocals and with a reggae backing. It's SO CHEESY NOOOOO. This sucks. "You will not control" x 100 This is irritating now. Random jazz will not save you Mr. Rosenstock, though I admit this section is good. 2.2/5 "Soon It Will Be Fire" This sounds like Radiohead a little for some reason? I dig the horns. It's very pretty and while long doesn't feel long. I like this actually. 4.1/5

Early Age Death - high-energy hip hop. the prod is cool, but i can't say i care a whole lot about this. 3.0 9. pick it up - i didn't care much for no dream and making it ska doesn't make it better. 2.3 10. Something to Worry about - i do like dynamic emo post rock, but not sure if this one quite works for me. don't care too much for the gang vocals. 2.9 11. Soon It Will Be Fire - beautiful song. really pretty acoustic guitar bits and love the horns. the vocals sound like they can fall apart any moment, which i wasn't sure i loved, but it does fit. 4.0

Here we go again building it back up. Fun song. 13. In Colour. 3.3 half of this is good, half is ok, would be great live.

What a shame too since the music is pretty cool, especially the guitar. 2.5/5 "Dead Daddy" This sounds like it's from the late 90s or something. This is chill, but not really my thing at the same time. 3/5 "Song Keys to Creation" Slow bassy space jazz so far. This is kinda like background noise, but good background noise. 3.3/5

I can certainly see myself listening to this again, feels like a nice track to drive around to. 3.4 3. Portobello Superhero - Myele Manzanza - A really nice jazz piece, nothing absolutely spectacular or groundbreaking, but it is still a really solid and enjoyable jam. 3.5 4. Feu! Chatterton - Un Monde Nouveau - Definitely not what I was expecting going into it for some reason. This is such a pleasant indie pop song, big fan of this. 3.9 5. For Those I Love - I Have a Love - Is this The Streets, this sounds like this is The Streets. I like The Streets tho. This sort of more spoken word style takes a bit to grow on me in general though. The instrumentals is excellent tho, definitely my type of electronic music. The middle section feels like it is missing something for me though, like it just needs a bit more omph. The Bridge is fantastic tho. 3.3

Early Age Death by RXK Nephew: He is angry af and it's hilare. I am honestly kinda here for it. I'm adding this to a spotify playlist I have called "ANGARY MANGARYMANT" and those two words are how I'd best summarize this very funny song. [4.5] 9. p i c k i t u p by Ska Dream:I don't hate this but it's not getting a re-listen. [2.5] 10. Something New to Worry About - I Feel Fine: a bunch of bros singing together like they're all holding the mic at a karaoke bar is a rock band gimmick that only worked in Bro Hymn, and even then there were mostly verses where a lead singer's individual voice shone through. In this song it kinda comes across as lazy because all the vocal elements in the song rely on this gimmick. Music otherwise is ok but nothing special. [2.0]

I also dig the introduction of the vocals and the spooky instrumentation about 2/3 of the way through. It makes the song even better. [4.6] 13. In Color by The Gathering: Been a while since I heard a song by The Gathering. They definitely have changed their sound quite significantly. This is a pleasant song if not but a tad unmemorable. But I still like it. [3.6] 14. Red by sassya-: energetic with a crisp snare. I don't love the vocals but I can deal. [3.3] 15. Dear Daddy by Bossolo: The lyrics about his absentee dad but the music makes it sound like a "happier" song tonally. Like, the music makes me think of a chill walk in the park. This isn't really my style, but I appreciate it anyway. It's clearly very thoughtful and pretty and achieves what it intended to do well. Fuck it. 3.9/5 "Beginning" BASSY. The drums rule. Honestly, everything so far rules. Ooh brassy. BONGOS. YES, EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK. WEIRD HARMONIZED VOCALS WTF THIS IS AWESOME. Tell me the rest of this album is this good. Beginning by Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp: OK yeah this is good. I'm often multitasking when doing SotD and part of the test is whether the song can "distract" me, and this one can. At the very least it's got me dancing along even when I'm trying to concentrate on something else. Very upbeat, very fun. [4.2] 21. Wait For It by Cold Collective: And I'm tuned out to this again. It makes me think the day is gonna be good. Now, since I don't understand the lyrics, there is a tiny suspicion that it's doing the "happy tune, sad lyrics" but that's just my general distrust and paranoia speaking. Black Wings Hunt by Nightcrush: Besides the autotune, I kinda like this - it actually strikes me as darkwave which is a genre I have a soft spot for. The autotune is still really gimmicky but it's also not loud and obnoxious so it can be tolerated. The music itself is kinda nice and relaxing. [3.9] 29. Mohabbat by Arooj Aftab: ah yes, Pakistani folky music. I'm lucky that Urdu is really similar to Hindi so I can kinda understand this a little bit. From what I can gather it's a song about how they're "not the one" for this other person and that they're going on separate paths. Really beautiful voice, and I'm kinda digging the culture deep cuts here since this is a ghazal. This has more of the indie folk instruments going for it instead which I also really like. I don't mind the length of the song - long folk tunes are kinda my vibe right now anyway. I'll check out the album and add this song to my "Haunting Folk" playlist. =) [4.7] 31. Creatures by Viagra Boys: there's nothing SUPER special about this song but I just....like it. I like the weird voice, the bass line, and the odd brass here and there.
