Song of the Day: December 2021

This month’s theme is 2021 album pitches! Pick a song from a 2021 album that you think needs more attention in an attempt to get people or hear it. It doesn’t need to be your favorite, just something to spark interest! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yo9Aj7t1IZwG41xFgX9kzIugIsVckENq5RnQace1WDw/edit#gid=348870789

“Rose Water”

This was way under hyped for being their best album yet! “Rose Water” is my favorite song of the year.

Really great modern jazz with symphonic keyboards. Gives off that perfect cityscape vibe.

“I Have a Love”

Not my absolute favourite or even unknown album of the year, but definitely one that had a strong impact on me. It's spoken word house written after the suicide of his best friend and extremely gut punching. This is definitely the album from this year where everyone should be aware of.

"Doom Journalism"

I decided to go for a moderately conservative choice, seeing as most of my lesser-known favourites of the year are some weird avant-garde electronic albums or are quite pointless to listen as separate songs without the full album experience. Here's a banger from an equally wild and adventurous progressive post-punk album that slipped under the radar of most people.

"p i c k i t u p"

This album needs more attention from the song of the day crew!
Time to get your skank'n boots on boys! The last 1 minute of this song is pure bliss.

"Red"

Proper fun post-hardcore/noise rock. Not a super inspiring year for noise rock, so it was nice having a good ripper to come back to.

December 15th: Drifter

"Dear Daddy"

This song is essentially a letter to his father where he talks about some of the rough experiences he had growing up and how he wasn't there for him. Very emotionally-hitting song that needs to be more known.

"The Company"

I've only listened to one album this year since January, and it was Engine of Hell by Emma Ruth Rundle. This song, The Company, is what drew me into hearing it. Also, the video helped. Cottagecore Joker kinda works.

"Wait for It"

This album came out 3 weeks ago, and it's gonna be in my top 10. The lead singer, Tim Landers passed away a couple of years ago, this album is made up of a collection of demos and ideas he sent the band. The band then spent the next 2 years perfecting the album in a homage to Tim.

"The Puzzle"

Devin’s popular on this site but it’s my second album heard since January and this month. In terms of his future stuff, I like that this isn’t just another prog album and it’s a genre mash of sorts. Still don’t know how I feel about it but I have this song on repeat.
