09.02.21 | "Invisible"
Chill, simple folk. I have no strong opinion on this.

fogza
09.02.21 | 2. Ingrid Michaelson: Breathing - This is borderline, like there's something about it that's too "cute ballad designed for a romantic dramedy", but it somehow also has picked up unexpected simple situational lyrical gravitas from the current state of affairs. Perhaps Ingrid is wiser than I think. 3.3 |

Natalie Rose Lebrecht - In the Beginning
It's from her Mandarava Rose album. She dropped several records in the early 2000s under her own name as well as Greenpot Bluepot and they are all magnificent but just when you start to relax she'd clatter something loud in your ear and start manic chanting and it would be like a mini night terror. Not on this one. She came back after much time away in a more ethereal state of mind. Nothin' but pure solar ambibliss this time

Modern trip hop that's kinda whatever. Nothing about this instrumentation or vocals stand out at all to a point of boredom. The ending horns are almost interesting.

09.07.21 | 4. "Djarimirri" - I'm Indonesian and this track sounds hilarious on how it accidentally produces gibberish Indonesian language lol. 2.8 (how do you even rate this when you can't even focus on its musical merits)

09.07.21 | 7. Bruno Pernadas: Family vows - I remember this was sort of a hot ticket album on this site recently, but I don't get it. 09.08.21 | if second recs are allowed, i'd like to throw this into the ring:
Traband - Vlaštovky (Swallows)
https://youtu.be/8CDBF6ssL14
a beautiful song from a Czech underground band still active today. very melancholic comparison of swallows travelling great distances "over large mountains, over deep oceans, above treetops, through raging blizzards" and always have some place to return or to move, while you (or the authors) realise that they do not. your hometown, your once loved ones, your family, your friends and all that you at once point or another see as stable; all things become misplaced, forgotten, moved around and your connection to them dwindles. nobody really has a place to go and we are cursed with always searching that somewhere, something, someone we can count on to always welcome us back. unlike the swallows |

1. Invisible 3.2. Very pleasant, definitely relaxing, but wouldn't actively listen to this.
2. Breathing 3.5 initially sounds like an insurance add. Vocals are pretty, song is ok too.
3. Cold Water, 3.1 I guess this is relaxing, I zoned out big time.
4. Na
5. Give Me Order 2.9 not terrible, but there are better tracks on this album.
6. Cherry Blossom 3.8 this picks up the second half, almost sounds like The Weeknd has sampled it on Kissland
7. Family Vows 4.2. Great start to an album, has so much going on.
8. Girl you make me bad 3.1 feel like I should be chilling by the side of a pool with this one, it's the complete opposite of the last song, very repetitive marching drums. |
Minushuman24
09.09.21 | aye, they're open, but pangea is on it already. My rec hits especially close to home lately, heartache, confusion, klonopin and alcohol, a song that I will just close my eyes and listen to in a haze. Probs won't do well here, but it is one of those songs that just hit the right strings |

09.09.21 | I agree w/fogza.
9. Natalia Rose Lebrecht - Piano intro, a little dark. (That IS a piano, right Are? Geez.) Good start. Dreamy female vocals. A little formless so far, but she has 6+ minutes to pull it together. At times, it almost sounds like she's riffing on the slow first part of the Mary Hopkin version of "Those Were the Days". 5 minutes in now, though, and at this point, it's gotten so formless it's in danger of just drifting away. Her vice is nice, but I need more structure. 2.3 |
ArsMoriendi
09.09.21 | "In the Beginning"
Psychedelic and creepy with neat piano twinkling. A bit draggy, but I like the overall aesthetic. The creepy backmasked voices at the end are awesome.

09.11.21 | "Pyro"
Boring dreamy indie with slightly hoarse vocals. It sounds like he has phlegm in this throat. Okay, so this was the most forgettable indie song of all time and the vocals are slightly gross, but not fully committed to being gross.
2.4/5
"La Petite Fille de la Mer"
So this is new age right? What is new age anyway? Is it just post-rock, but for yoga moms or what? I'm kidding. This is soothing, but not too interesting. It has a certain atmosphere to it though that's quite relaxing, so it's a great fit for this theme. This is fine enough.

09.11.21 | So who would like to host October? I'm willing to do it, but if I do, the theme won't have anything to do with Halloween, the supernatural, etc. So if you want that kind of theme, I'm not your guy. |

09.12.21 | 12. Dreaming of Love - i like the heavy bass but otherwise not so sure about this. I don't care for the vocal style - i find the way he takes a break after each word more infuriating as relaxing. Instrumentally it's cool though. 2.7 |

09.12.21 | 12. Spain - So this is "slowcore"? Hmm. A little bit of a David Crosby guitar riff in there. Don't know if I love the vocal, though. Having just read the comments, I think I'm with Pangea on this one. 2.8 |

09.12.21 | In the late 90s I was all about slowcore and black metal.
Thankfully the metal won. |

09.12.21 | The 90s was a confused decade. Where I live, it started out with grunge, then moved to alternative rock. And when that didn't sell enough, American Idol and corporate pop took over. Dark days. |

09.12.21 | Bruno Pernadas - Family Vows: I started liking it but that feeling eventually evaporated. Song goes strange places. And he can't really sing, can he? 2.7/5
Sugardrive - Girl You Made Me Bad: Ok maybe I expect too much from vocalists. But this guy also annoys me. Wasn't relaxed. 2.3/5
Natalie Rose Lebrecht - In the Beginning: Ooh that's more like it. My jaw is loosening and my shoulders are dropping. Thanks for picking one without jumpscares. 4.1/5

But again, goddammit, take some singing lessons dude. Or learn to scream? 4/5 |

09.14.21 | 14. Masashi Hamauzu: Besaid - I still have PTSD from the video game soundtrack SOTD. This sounds like slightly fancier hold music. Why does so much of this stuff include a sound like an artificial frog croak? All that aside there are one or two nice touches in a mostly dull track. 2.8 |

10. "Pyro" - This is very nice and relaxing. The atmosphere is reminiscent of some random post-rock band that I forgot. That intro drones out a bit too long though. 3.7

09.16.21 | 9. In the beginning. 2.2 music is a bit haunting. But is she singing or just exhaling noise!
10. Pyro. 2.8 Nice slow build up.... Usually by now I hear some heavier growls or guitar, but not this time, it's another over exhale singer. Still not getting faster or heavier, the anticipation is killing me, hurry up. Almost got there, fuck talk about a tease of a song
11. La Petite Fille de la Mer. 2.7 This guy is the legend you've never heard of, but know his work and no doubt listened to people who were influenced by him. This piece right here is pretty, but needs to be a montages in a film, hard to listen to by itself.
12. Dreaming of love. 1.3 Stop... start.... Singing...., this is hard to listen to I just want to wake up, these songs are making me sleepy.
13. Through the looking glass. 2.9 The least relaxing song, sounds like a mosquito in my bonnet.
14. Besaid. 0.6 The least Besaid about this the better.
15. Half asleep. 2.9 Hey a band I know, I listened to their 2010 album, Disconnect from desire, a lot, probably in my top 10 for 2010. This song isn't as good as any of those. |

09.16.21 | 16. Tigran Hamasyan - Pleasant piano intro. Decent vocalizations (as opposed to out-and-out vocals). Song itself is just OK. Gets a little heavy handed with cymbals and fast piano as the song goes on. Then stops dead and restarts quiet again. The quiet parts are the best. 3.2 |

09.18.21 | 18. Elis Regina - Light guitar, Spanish female vocals followed by Spanish male vocals. Weird. For some reason, I feel like I've heard this song before, but in English. Oh well. 09.19.21 | 19. Burzum - Oh dear. 14 minutes worth of black metal. Starts with synth, so that's good at least. Funny, this sounds a little like Tangerine Dream so far. 4 and a half minutes in, and it's pretty repetitive so far. Just kind of stops around the 6:45 mark. Kind of quiet after that. I don't know. 3 |
Pangea
09.19.21 | 18. Águas de Março - it is cute. also we had this song on an earlier sotd. I kinda thought i recognised it, but didn't fully realise until now! Ah oh well. 3.3

09.24.21 | 24. Black 47: Voodoo City - Starts off like just about every reggae song ever, but the vocals are a bit "don't hurt yourself buddy". 09.25.21 | 25. Trophy Scars - Mostly piano intro, with a little high-pitched electric guitar. Song kicks in with very busy percussion and surprisingly low-pitched male vocals (given the pitch of the guitar.) Vocals are almost as much spoken as they are sung. (And at times, it sounds like it's actually two vocals at once - a fairly deep one sung over a really deep, growly one.) I'm not really loving any of these elements. 2.3 |

Loud and boring ambient, then a calmer boring ambient, then some nerdy synth flute. No.

09.28.21 | 16. Apple Orchard. 2.8 It's relaxing, as background music
17. Ever New. 1.2 Messy instruments, vocals are ok, but overall not really a song
18. Aguas de Marco. 3.3 This is better, vocals compliment each other well.
19. Tomhet. 1.0 I could make this in under the running time.
20. Sodium
21. Sour flower. 1.6 Intro is unnecessary, vocals are pretty, song is boring, outro just wasted 2 minutes of my life.
22. In your own sweet way. 2.9 Where's my martini? Sitting at a lounge bar overlooking the sun setting on a tropical beach, I'm relaxed. But the song went in one ear and out the other.
23. On a hilltop sat the moon. 2.2 Glitchy boredom
24. Voodoo city, 2.8 it's OK, but should have went with Peter Tosh, or Toots.
25. Time in heaven. 4.0 It's a great way to end a great EP.
26. Bye bye summer, 1.1 appropriate title for the weather here, it's currently snowing, the song however can go bye bye
27. What a wonderful world. 3.8 What a wonderful overplayed song.
28. Vlastovky. 3.8. I like this one. Mostly cus of the vocals. The accordion gets a little draining.
29. Tomorrow. 3.2. A good song, but needs something special to gain my attention.
30. Down. 1.5. too long, too boring. |

"Sour Flower"
Intricate folky guitar and a soulful voice. Very pretty so far. Good pickup. Not too engaging, but certainly relaxing. The drum section at the end is cool, if not a bit overlong.
3.3/5
"In Your Own Sweet Way"
WAIT WHAT I KNOW A LO-FI HIP HOP BEAT THAT SAMPLES THIS. Nice jazz anyway.
4.2/5
"On a Hilltop Sat the Moon"
Spooky atmospheric beep boops. Background music honestly.

09.29.21 | "Time in Heaven, Forever in Hell"

1/5
"Bye Bye Summer"
Very vaporwavey. Soothing etc.
3/5
"What a Wonderful World"
There's always that one cheap shot "you know everyone loves it" choice someone picks and here it is. I mean it's heartfelt, has gorgeous strings, pleasant raspy vocals, and the lyrics are touching. What's not to like about this one?
4.5/5

This sounds like very serious 90s adult contemporary pop. I'm not feeling it at all.

"Down"
Down-tuned bass and floaty guitar, okay. This is fine, relaxing for sure, but maybe a bit boring for my mood right now. I wish I liked music like this more, but I respect it, to say the least.

09.30.21 | 30. Low: Down - I like Low but I sort of have to be in the mood for them, especially the really early records. 3.6 |

09.30.21 | 30. Low - Finishing up with one to challenge my ADHD, huh? Fine, be that way. Slowly strummed guitar, kind of weakish male vocals. A little repetitive early on. Overall, more boring than not. 2.6 |

29. Tommorow - pretty neat. 3.0
