| Introduction to Congolese Music
Growing up in Nairobi, Congolese music was massive. Still is the case be honest. One of the reasons for that is that during the civil war in DRC, a good number of artists left the country and set up camp in Nairobi and the scene took off like crazy. (one of the songs below is actually a tribute to that). Congolese artists found a home here and the rest is history. Below are some of the jams to have taken over bars and clubs in the City over the decades. All of them sang primarily in the Congolese language of Lingala. A balanced mixture of dance floor monsters (Ndombolo) and slow burners (rhumba).
