07.17.21 | "Garlic is a vegetable?"
"Botanically, garlic (Allium sativum) is considered a vegetable. It belongs to the onion family, alongside shallots, leeks, and chives (2)"
in short: yes, it is |

07.17.21 | I don't know about sweet potatoes being better than regular potatoes. Like the whole point of potatoes is that they're completely neutral tasting and therefore can be seasoned in any way. |
ReefaJones
07.17.21 | dude even fries are better made with sweet potatoes. That's the ultimate KO |
TheAntichrist
07.17.21 | you hate peas, but i'll give you that one |
SitarHero
07.17.21 | Hard disagree. I can't stand sweet potato fries. It's like someone put sugar on regular fries. |

07.17.21 | I mean Italians and romans were cuisining way before tomatoes were introduced but like it probably sucked ass |

07.17.21 | gotta be a real asshole to call garlic a vegetable |

07.17.21 | "I can't stand sweet potato fries"

ReefaJones
07.17.21 | "gotta be a real asshole to call garlic a vegetable"
I mean you can call it a fruit or a herb if you like. That doesn't make it true though |

07.17.21 | Speaking of which, I just got some vegan sausages and they taste pretty damn close to the real thing. |
ReefaJones

SitarHero
07.17.21 | Apart from the texture, yeah they do. |
ReefaJones
07.17.21 | i call bs. You probably haven't eaten a real sausage in years |
SitarHero
07.17.21 | Lol, come to think of it I probably haven't eaten a sausage since the pandemic began, but it's not like one forgets what sausages taste like. |
Snake.
07.17.21 | tomatoes aren't vegetables lmao |
ReefaJones
07.17.21 | It might taste similar to a shitty sausage though I'll give you that |

07.17.21 | Two of these are fruits |
ReefaJones
07.17.21 | "tomatoes aren't vegetables lmao"
"Summary – Tomatoes are both fruits and vegetables!
To summarise, tomatoes are usually prepared in savoury dishes despite botanically being a fruit, which is why they are often described as a vegetable from a culinary perspective."
In short, suckle my sausage and get that vegan saucage |
ReefaJones
07.17.21 | "But the confusion arises because "vegetable" isn't a botanical classification so much as it is a culinary one. And "fruit" can be a culinary term, too – described as "having a sweet pulp associated with the seed" and "used chiefly in a dessert or sweet course," according to Merriam-Webster.
So scientifically, fruits don't have to be sweet, but in the kitchen, most people would classify the fruits that fall on the savoury side, like tomatoes, as vegetables.
Nutritionists recognise the terms as they are commonly used, and tomatoes are listed as a vegetable under USDA guidelines. But the confusion arises because "vegetable" isn't a botanical classification so much as it is a culinary one. And "fruit" can be a culinary term, too – described as "having a sweet pulp associated with the seed" and "used chiefly in a dessert or sweet course," according to Merriam-Webster.

07.17.21 | I mean if garlic and tomatoes are considered vegetables then along with onion you have to add mushrooms in there if you are allowed to put every type of mushroom under the one broad term. Easy pick. |
zakalwe
07.17.21 | You have to be some sort of vegetable to think garlic is a vegetable. |

07.17.21 | You’re wrong about 2 since there were no tomatoes in Europe pre-Columbian exchange, so all the classic sauces had no tomatoes in them originally. Some people consider it incorrect to put tomatoes in bolognese lmao but those people are crazy cause tomatoes are fucking delicious |
WeepingBanana
07.17.21 | Also corn is a veggie lol. Starches can be veggies. Do you think potatoes aren’t veggies?? List should have potatoes |
DoofDoof
07.17.21 | Potatoes
Tomatoes

07.17.21 | >mushrooms and garlic, in coconut milk with shrimps and chopped spinach, + pasta
I made that dish and I was scarily close to posting a picture of it, but thankfully it's blurry. Tastes great tho |

07.17.21 | Fav peppers? Mine are poblanos |
protokute
07.17.21 | Bless you for picking sweet potatoes instead of generic old potatoes
sweet potato > cassava > arracacha >>>> potatoes |
WeepingBanana
07.17.21 | I love the flavor of sweet potatoes but sweet potato fries usually suck, they just don’t crisp up as nicely. Love yuca fries a lot, but cassava just isn’t as versatile as a regular potato. Russets are the superior potato imo |
protokute
07.17.21 | As purely cooked vegetables, not so much indeed. But you can make a whole bunch of stuff with cassava subproducts like cassava flour and starch or ferment it to make tapioca flour or puba (which you can bake a delicious cake with) |

07.17.21 | I really like the thinner skinned potato’s a lot. Red and gold. Never was a huge fan of russets.
As far as peppers go, red savina habañeros prob have the best flavor among everything I’ve tried. Really sweet with lots of tropical notes. A bit hotter than a normal orange hab as well. |

07.17.21 | onions |
TheAntichrist
07.17.21 | onionbubs |
WeepingBanana
07.17.21 | Red and gold are better in soups and stews for sure cause they hold their shape better. But if we’re talking about potato-forward dishes like fries or mashed potatoes or hashbrowns then it’s russets by a mile |
