| Writing an Avant-Garde / Metal Concept Album
I've taken a lengthy break from writing music, and since i closed off my previous solo project, i've decided to start somewhere else with something entirely different. I've gotten the attention of a record label with some demos, and will be releasing the final product through them, since it's still early in the process, i don't want to give away any details too soon, so i'll just kind of drop some sonic descriptors and themes that the album has thus far. | 1 | | The Mars Volta The Bedlam in Goliath
The Bedlam In Goliath was the catalyst to this whole ordeal. Not so much the sound (though a few vocal effects were inspired) but the concept and the story behind the album, which sort of lead me down a wild rabbit hole of paranormal accounts and spiritual practices. Also driven by an abundance of strange occurances around my own house which inspired the story behind the album, and its cryptic vibe. | 2 | | Dir En Grey Uroboros (Remastered & Expanded)
My favorite album of all time, and one of the biggest influences sonically. While harsh vocals are kind of rare with a focus on melody and atmosphere, i found the tone and strange approach of Uroboros to be a big inspiration while writing this piece. | 3 | | Porcupine Tree In Absentia
As of right now, I have 16 very well-rounded demo tracks. | 4 | | Dir En Grey Vulgar
The story is about a man who finds a Dybbuk box at the bottom of a well in the middle of the woods. From there it delves into astral projection, contact with nightmarish entities, murder and possession, and the vibe of the album reflects that wonderfully i think. | 5 | | Colin Stetson Hereditary
I've also been consuming as much horror media as possible. Most notably the films Hereditary, Lake Mungo, The Pact, Pyewacket, and A Dark Song. All of which I thoroughly recommend, as they are fantastic. There are many 'Film score' moments interspliced throughout the album. | 6 | | Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral
The heavier tracks have a very industrial, TDS vibe to them, which was kind of unexpected, but very much welcome. | 7 | | Chevelle Sci-Fi Crimes
Wasn't really a big influence, but my roommate heard me listening to this album and thought it was my music because apparently my vocals on this album are similar to Pete Loeffler's. Not complaining, i can see the comparison, and i like his vocals very much. | 8 | | Gnaw Their Tongues All The Dread Magnificence of Perversity
Also forgot to add that the album and booklet art i commissioned are absolutely unsettling and nightmarish | |
