look what they did to my boy (a 2020 list)

here's a bunch of shit i thought was cool. i'll write something up for all of them, maybe... or not. Just check em out.
1Dean Blunt
Roaches 2012-2019

[hypnagogic pop / experimental]
this compiles a bunch of obscure stuff Dean and his label World Music have been releasing over the years through several yt accounts and wetransfer links, now long gone. If you haven't been keeping up, it's a nice catch-up and a reminder to keep tabs on one of the most unique artists of our generation.
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: felony; LIT freestyle.
2Aine O'Dwyer
Daedalus Airs

[field recordings / performance art]
read my review for it to get the idea.
3Keleketla!
Keleketla!

[afrobeat]
best album of the year, probably. and the one i jammed the most from the stuff that came out in 2020.
international love affair has some one of the best sounding saxs i've ever heard.
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: international love affair; shepherd song.
4jonatan leandoer127
Blodhundar and Lullabies

[indie pop / hypnagogic pop]
his best work yet. Great production. Lean is definitely the most charismatic and talented voice and he's had the best year out of all the DG boys. (lmao that last Bladee suckssssss)
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: snake ice; machines
5Kali Uchis
Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios)

[reggaeton / soul latino]
Kali comes out with a very interesting and personal interpretation of the current mainstream of latinoamerican pop. Is it groundbreaking? no, but it's fun, it's fresh, and it's not wanking over the 80's for the n-th time, so that's definitely a plus. it's mostly in spanish, too, así que bien por ella.
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: vaya con dios; la luz(fin)
6Little Dragon
New Me, Same Us

[neo-soul / electropop]
Best LD has sounded in ages. Definitely their best work in a while. They sound mature here, like they have nothing to prove, and the album benefits greatly from this energy. Def check out if you like the band's earlier work.
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: new fiction; where you belong
7Bananagun
The True Story of Bananagun

[psychedelic / afrobeat]
bunch of white guys from australia playing afrobeat and psych. nothing ground-breaking. Just some jams that take as much from 60's englad as they do from 70's nigeria. Will keep an eye on these guys, hopefully their next project ups the stakes. as is, this is really cool.
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: the master; people talk too much
8Nicolas Jaar
Cenizas

[eai]
both this and Telas are some of nic's best work since nymphs. tho at first i prefered Telas more experimental and abrasive sound, after back-to-back listening at both, i think Cenizas might win. Recomend to anyone that wants to get an idea of what eai is all about but isn't really prepared for the more intense / true stuff.
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: cenizas; mud.
9Nicolas Jaar
Telas

...
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: telahumo
10Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever
Sideways to New Italy

[jangle / pop-rock]
a very solid sophomore record by australian band RBCF. I must admit i have a sort of weakness for this kind of peppy, post-punky pop-rock. What can i say, it's just a very solid compilation of cool, bohemian pop-rock tunes.
if you don't feel like giving it, at least try checking out: falling thunder; she's there.
