Pangea checks old stuff

I realised that I have been slacking really hard on pre 2000 stuff. So this list is an attempt to amend that. I will go through each of these artists discography eventually. I tried to have a decent represenation of both era (mostly since 60s, but some 50s stuff as well) and genre. Obviously, there are still some gaps, but this should be a decent starting point. Also, I don't want to rush through this too quickly, so this will definitely take a long time. But, hey, it will be a project!
1John Coltrane
Giant Steps

My jazz knowledge is embarrassing
2Miles Davis
Kind of Blue

My jazz knowledge is embarrassing [2]
3Frank Sinatra
My Way
4Charles Mingus
The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

As a jazz newbie, going into Charles Mingus' sizable discography was somewhat of an intimating task, but it was definitely worth it. Mingus is an intricate composer with a great touch for liveliness and soul. There is a great harmony between the instruments and Mingus' own bass playing is fantastic. There are gems all over the discog, but i was in particular a fan his later era - everything from 'Let My Children Hear Music' and onwards is amazing. As a last sidenode: there is a large discrepancy between number of ratings between releases, and i get why, but if you do enjoy the popular releases, I do suggest branching out to a few more. They are very much worth it.

Discog highlights
1. Let My Children Hear Music: 4.5
2. Mingus Ah Um: 4.5-
3. Tijuana Moods: 4+
4. The Clown: 4+
5. Cumbia and Jazz Fusion: 4+

Ambient 1: Music For Airports

Listened to this a few years ago and was bored. However, I do have a better appreciation for ambient now, so maybe now i will like it better
40Bruce Springsteen
The River
41Black Flag
Nervous Breakdown
42Patti Smith
Horses
43Ramones
Ramones

Uh yeah Ramones were fun. The music may have been simple, but it had a lot of energy and it's catchy. The earlier records in particular were a good time, there definitely was a spark there that somewhat got lost in later records, although I did enjoy quite of those as well.

Top 5:
1. Rockets to Russia: 4+
2. Ramones: 4-
3. Pleasant Dreams: 4-
4. Road to Ruin: 3.5+
5. Leave Home: 3.5+
44Kraftwerk
Autobahn

I liked Kraftwerk, but maybe not so much as i had hoped. Some of their more revered electronic stuff felt maybe a bit too fluffy for me, Autobahn in particular didn't do anything to me. I tended to prefer either their earlier krautrock or their more poppy stuff (The Model is one of the best pop songs ever made). Regardless, it was a nice discog to dive into and i'll probably keep spamming The Model until the day I die.

Top 5:
1. The Man-Machine: 4
2. Techno Pop: 4
3. Kraftwerk: 3.5+
4. Computer Love: 3.5
5. Trans-European Express: 3.5-
45The Cure
Disintegration
46Talking Heads
Remain in Light

Another band that i should have heard already
47Iron Maiden

49Kate Bush

50Slayer
Reign in Blood
51Tom Waits
Rain Dogs
52Dead Kennedys
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
53Joy Division
Closer

Also New Order
54ABBA
The Visitors

I couldn't not check ABBA for this. I'm a big fan of this kind of glossy pop and ABBA do it better as most. They often strike gold ('Eagle', 'SOS' & 'Dancing Queen'). Unfortunately they did often struggle with consistently bringing their pop gold in a full experience "The Album" was the best effort. Clearly, won't be the highlight of this project but I'm glad I experienced it regardless.

Discog Highlights:
1. The Album: 4+
2. Abba: 4-
3. Supertrooper: 3.5+
4. Voulez Vouz: 3.5-
5. Arrival: 3.5-
55The Clash
London Calling
56Sonic Youth

70Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
Let Love In

Oof yes, I already was really excited for Nick Cave going in, after already loving his 2010s stuff, and this did not disappoint. One of the most impressive things about his discography is his versatility and how well he's able to nail each style he is going for. This results in a discog where every album has its own particular niche in his career and makes no album superfluous (except for No More Shall We Part basically being an improved The Boatsman Call). Nick Cave is obviously an extremely creative and talented song-writer and his discog has certainly become an all-time favourite for me.

Top 5:
1. Henry's Dream: 4.5
2. Ghosteen: 4.5
3. Tender Prey: 4.5-
4. No More Shall We Part: 4+
5. The Good Son: 4+
71Wu-Tang Clan
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
72A Tribe Called Quest

The Downward Spiral
83The Smashing Pumpkins
Siamese Dream
84Burzum
Filosofem
85Emperor
Wrath of the Tyrant
86Darkthrone
Transilvanian Hunger

Darkthrone are kings of everything dark & evil. I find it impressive how often they reinvented themself within different styles of extreme metal, while still containing a sound that is distinctively Darkthrone. Of course, the black metal era is the most revered, but I personally found myself having favourites of each era (for example the extremely fun Too Old, Too Cold of the punkthrone era or the excellent The Underground resistance of the latter heavy metal/speed metal era. Generally a consistent and exciting discog, and even in their weaker releases, Darkthone always gets the spirit right. And the riffs never forget the riffs.

Discog highlights:
1. A Blaze in the Northern Sky: 4.5
2. Panzerfaust: 4+
3. Too Old, Too Cold: 4+
4. The Underground resistance: 4
5. The Cult Is Alive: 4
87Opeth
Blackwater Park

Listening to opeth is pretty much mandatory on sput anyway
88Gorguts
Obscura
89Neurosis
Through Silver in Blood

Neurosis' slow, but crushing, heaviness was an immediate appeal to me. They are excellent at creating these thick atmospheres that are so easy to get lost in. Their best moments, however, came when they allowed a little bit of space between the heavy atmosphere (the 2nd half of 'Chronology of Survival' and 'Falling Unknown' as particular highlights.

Discog highlights:
1. A Sun That Never Sets: 4.5
2. Souls at Zero: 4.5-
3. Given to the Rising: 4+
4. Enemy of the Sun: 4+
5. Times of Grace: 4
90Fugazi
