Questionable "Classics"

Classic doesn't always mean high quality.
1Iron Maiden
The Number of the Beast

Run to the Hills, Number of the Beast, and Hallowed Be Thy Name are irrefutable classics, but everything else is either forgettable or shit. Invaders’ chorus is hilariously bad,Total Eclipse is exceptionally forgettable, and Children of the Damned isn’t far behind. 22 Acacia Ave. and Prisoner are the only other two okay tracks, but I’ve never been a fan of either. Maiden has put out a plethora of superior albums, so the fact this one is regarded as their best troubles me.
2Testament
Practice What You Preach

As much as I love the mix for PWYP, I can’t say I enjoy too many of the songs on here. Passable thrash with exceptional production.
3Black Sabbath
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

This is the only early Sabbath record that doesn't click for me. Not terrible, but Sabbra Cadabara and the title track are the only two songs that I can manage to remember regardless of how many times I’ve listened to it.
4Bathory
Hammerheart

After the high octane intensity of Blood Fire Death, this slow, plodding behemoth falls short in almost every regard. As somebody who loves viking metal Bathory, I can easily say this is my least favorite of the bunch. Total snoozefest.
5Mr. Bungle
Disco Volante

The debut may have been extremely eclectic when it came to genre fusion, but never once did it sound forced or pretentious. Sadly, Disco Volante is just that. Forced and pretentious.
6Ozzy Osbourne
Bark at the Moon

While I stand behind my assessment that Jake E Lee was Ozzy’s best guitarist, even he couldn’t save this vanilla-ass record. The keyboards were a terrible new addition, and should have remained miles away from here. They don’t ruin the songs, but they sure as hell don’t make them any better. TItle track bumps though.
7Queensryche
Empire

This album is a prime example of how NOT to follow up Operation Mindcrime. Compared to their work from the mid-90’s through the 2000’s this is a masterpiece; but comparing it to their previous 3 records this thing doesn’t even come close. Oh, and Silent Lucidity sucks a fat one.
8Iron Maiden
Piece of Mind

Better than NOTB, but not by a whole lot. There is some brilliant material on here, but most of it is regulated to side one. On the other hand, side two has some of the worst filler the band has ever recorded. Quest for Fire is dogshit, Die With Your Boots on is obnoxiously repetitive, Sun and Steel is textbook useless padding and the 7 minute To Tame a Land is easily their worst epic of the 80’s.
9Slayer
Reign in Blood

Yeah, I really don’t get the hype for this one. South of Heaven, Seasons, Hell Awaits and No Mercy are all far superior. It’s lucky that it has two amazing tracks bookending it.
10Megadeth
Countdown to Extinction

How NOT to follow up Rust in Peace. Besides Ashes in Your Mouth, side two is utterly useless.
11Judas Priest
British Steel

British Steel is a good Judas Priest record and nothing more. Let’s just say, if Priest never recorded Grinder, United, You Don’t Have to Be Old to Be Wise, and The Rage, nobody would give a single shit.
12Pantera
Vulgar Display of Power

I can never shake the feeling that any post-Cowboys Pantera album was specifically engineered for mouth breathing edgelords who think using Axe body spray constitutes for a shower. The follow up is even worse, and is the crowning achievement of their unique brand of retard metal.
13Kreator
Extreme Aggression

Oh it's aggressive, but that's about it.
