Top 10 Nu-Metal Albums

This list is from the perspective of the genre, based solely on what the genre is known for and which albums express that better than any others, and whichever albums scratch my nostalgic itch for nu-metal.
10Soil
Scars

This album is awesome, it’s a perfect middle ground between post-grunge and nu-metal and is packed with memorable hooks and melodies. Not the best, but worthy of a 10 spot.

4/5
9Mudvayne
L.D. 50

An album that transcends the nu-metal genre. It’s experimental and energetic and is completely worthy of a 5/5 rating. If this wasn’t a cringe-y nu-metal list, this would be way higher. But i’m going for that nu-metal cheese, so... sorry Mudvayne.

5/5
8Slipknot
Slipknot

One of my favorite LP’s of all time. This thing is a beast, so raw and heavy and really unlike anything else, even those who try to mimic its success. Perhaps Iowa is a better album, but this set a whole new standard.

5/5
7Deftones
Around the Fur

Musically speaking this is worthy of the #2 spot. The spaced-out elements started seeping in and showed of the genius that the band was capable of. But as a nu-metal album, it just barely fits in.

5/5
6Korn
Korn

I prefer Life is Peachy personally, but the influence this album had was monumental. Essentially writing the blueprints for the entire sub-genre.

5/5
5Nothingface
Violence

I haven’t seen anyone say a bad word about this. This is definitely one of the genre’s high points and is a must-hear for anyone into the genre.

5/5
4Linkin Park
Hybrid Theory

Not as good an album as Nothingface’s Violence, but completely defines the era, and every track is single worthy.

4/5
3System of a Down
Steal This Album!

Like Around The Fur, this sticks out like a soar thumb tonally, but as an album i’d argue this is the best the genre has to offer musically. The variety and song-writing prowess on display here is nothing short of immaculate.

5/5
2Disturbed
The Sickness

Next to Hybrid Theory, The Sickness is probably the most iconic nu-metal album, and aside from the god-awful domestic violence skit in the middle of Down With The Sickness, it’s iconic for good reason. It’s heavy, catchy, and the production is stellar.

4/5
1Drowning Pool
Sinner

Bodies may be ruined by its over-saturation in the early days of YouTube, but every track on this album is excellent, heavy, and there’s a great overarching sense of melody and catchiness. If the vocalist hadn’t passed away, i get the impression the band would’ve been legendary.
