11.05.20 | AdBlock is free and I suggest you use it |
CR7theGOAT
11.05.20 | I use uBlock Origin but that doesn't do anything, it still redirects me to scammy websites. I just checked and it redirected me to something called "fredbob[dot]buzz" |
ArsMoriendi
11.05.20 | AdBlockPlus is what I used and I get 0 ads on here |
Gyromania
11.05.20 | Yeah that would be because the owner doesn't give two shits about his website (outside of its ability to make some extra money) and doesn't let anyone else develop or maintain it for him. adblockplus is definitely your friend. this site is abysmal on mobile tho |
Colton
11.05.20 | dirtytinder is worth it dude trust me |
CR7theGOAT
11.05.20 | I just installed AdBlock Plus and checked again, the same thing still happens to me. Both ABP and uBlock Origin block ads, but that's not what I'm complaining about.
I'm also not complaining about this happening when I am on the website itself. If I go to sputnikmusic normally by just typing sputnikmusic.com into the browser bar nothing sketchy happens. My problem is that if I type into google "sputnikmusic *album name*" and click on the result, it then redirects me to one of the aforementioned websites. You can try it yourself, type into google "sputnikmusic meteora" and then click on the first link in google. It will first load the real page but then quickly redirect to one of the aforementioned sketchy/scam websites. I've also tried this on multiple different devices with similar results so this isn't just a problem on my specific computer.
@Colton lol I don't think so... |
Sinternet
11.05.20 | add this to your ublock filters
sputnikmusic.com##+js(no-setTimeout-if, f.parentNode.removeChild(f), 100)
think sandwich was the one who figured this out so props to him |
LeddSledd
11.05.20 | getting an account and accessing the site by url rather than google search (and staying away from "blog" and "news" sections) has easily been the most effective way to avoid the redirect ads.
unfortunately, there's little that anyone that actually cares here can actually do. the work will have to be from your end |
CR7theGOAT
11.05.20 | @sinternet I appreciate it but could you explain a little more? I'm pretty naive when it comes to computers so could you explain how to add a filter on uBlock Origin? I got uBlock Origin because it was recommended by everyone on reddit, not because I have any knowledge about computers lol. Thanks though! |

11.05.20 | "If I go to sputnikmusic normally by just typing sputnikmusic.com into the browser bar nothing sketchy happens. "
Well then... do that? |
CR7theGOAT
11.05.20 | @Dewinged I know that is obviously one answer but I just wanted to know if there was anything the admins could do to eliminate this problem for everyone. Seeing that they probably can't, I guess that's what I will resort to doing. |
Sinternet
11.05.20 | sure, click on the ublock icon, the button on the bottom right (3 horizontal lines) takes you to settings
under the myfilters tab, paste the command i posted and apply the changes |
CR7theGOAT
11.05.20 | @Sinternet, after I pasted it and applied changes, it still does the same redirecting. Is there some space or period that I missed? Btw this is exactly what I put in:
sputnikmusic.com##+js(no-setTimeout-if, f.parentNode.removeChild(f), 100) |
Drifter
11.05.20 | Where’s Jom to say it’s just part of the charm of the website |
Dewinged
11.05.20 | It's not part of its charm, the site's been fucked for a long time.
But hear this, a true Sputniker never closes the tab, never logs off. Remain vigilant, like Batman watching over Gotham. |
Morningrise767
11.05.20 | the "getmoremoney" website sounds legit to me bro... you should try using it and get rich quick! |
CR7theGOAT
11.05.20 | @morningrise767 definitely I got about $1000 dollars from it already! I probably should delete this thread or rename it how to get rich in 24 hrs! |

11.05.20 | Don’t always click the absolute first answer on your google. Double check the site destination and make sure it’s the same (re: normal) URL. Google’s first 1-2 responses are always ads. |

11.05.20 | there's a search bar at the top right of the sputnikmusic website....? |
CR7theGOAT
11.05.20 | @Uzumaki I use uBlock Origin so there aren't any ads on Google. Also, I've checked many of the results on the first page of Google and they all redirect even thought when hovering over their links they display normal, legit sputnikmusic.com links.
@peekatoad I know but at the same time I wish using the Google search as an alternative would work. |
peekatoad
11.05.20 | You should try using the search on the site. It works surprisingly well.
If i'm looking to know what albums an artist has released or tracks from an album i find myself going to sputnik and searching here. I like it here
the only issue is searching an artist that has a comma or $ or any other odd character |
Avagantamos
11.05.20 | maybe use the search bar on the site instead of googling everything? just a thought |
Spec
11.05.20 | just never use sputnik on your phone |
LeddSledd
11.05.20 | *laughs in Sputnik mobile* |
CR7theGOAT
11.06.20 | @peekatoad and @Avantagamos, I normally do use the built-in search but for bands that have commas or whatever it is easier to search in Google. Plus, you would think that the website wouldn't want to get a bad rep for scam redirects |

ReturnToRock
11.06.20 | AdBlock. You will forget what it's like to ever watch an ad or have an unwanted pop-up ever again.
Seriously, when I'm watching something on somebody's phone and it's broken up by an ad I literally do a double-take every time. |
CR7theGOAT
11.07.20 | @ReturnToRock I use uBlock Origin which is an adblocker (among other things), and I'm not complaining about ads. What I'm complaining about is scam redirects, with have nothing to do with ads on the site. This happens when you search on Google "Spuntikmusic *insert album name*" and click on the result on Google, as the site will first go to will first act normally and go to Sputnikmusic, but it then will redirect to scammy shit. This has nothing to do with adblocking; in fact, if you want to, keep your adblocker activated and type "sputnikmusic meteora" into google, clicking on the first result. It will still redirect to the aforementioned scam websites even with an adblocker activated. |
ReturnToRock
11.07.20 | With that said, i am also seeing weird ads on the sidebar of review pages on my phone... |
CR7theGOAT
11.08.20 | @normaloctagon I appreciate the concern. I tried that particular album, and there were no redirects for me either. I guess it must be only some albums and not all where this happens! |
Drifter
11.08.20 | Noticed that too ReturnToRock. Only started happening within the last couple weeks I think |
CR7theGOAT
11.08.20 | @normaloctagon thanks for the help, I'm new here and still trying to get used to the logistics of the forums etc. I posted it there and am now awaiting a response! |
SandwichBubble
11.08.20 | Posted in the meds thread, but here it is again for visibility:
The redirects you're getting are probably triggered by poor ad choice on the part of the site (mx?).
Using uBlock, try doing this when you click on the google search result:
https://i.imgur.com/X6o6gox.png
then https://i.imgur.com/nY8hqoY.png
So in text: mark the second box (the third column) next to jquery-ul.com red. Then, click the lock near the power symbol.
Refresh and it should be fixed.
If that doesn't work, you could always just disable javascript on sputnik. But that causes a few features to be missing (some formatting stuff, ratings graphs, etc.). |
CR7theGOAT
11.08.20 | @SandwichBubble thank you so much! It worked and I am not having these redirect problems anymore! |
Emim
11.08.20 | "just never use sputnik on your phone"
