Their album Para Quines Aun Viven is a collab between Toundra (post rock band) and Niño de Elche (flamenco vocalist). Completely unexpected combination if you listen to their independent works, but it is literally one of my favorite albums of all time, this song being my fav from the album. If you have the time, please watch the music video as well, but if not, it is still incredible. Just wait for the ending that explodes my heart every time. Vocals are kind of pretentious, though. This is the Faith No More Guy, right? Almost at the 5 minute mark. Come on guys, pick up the pace a little. Think I'll have scrambled eggs for breakfast. Wish I had some bacon. These guys need another drummer, to just pick up this mfer and run away with it. This guy just likes to tap a cymbal every 20 measures or so. Now we had a little sax in there. Now the FNM guy is back. I've only been up an hour, and these guys are making me want to go back to bed. Hmm. Overcast today. Mike Patton is diabolical. 08.07.20 | OK, been stuck offline for two days with no power. Let's see what you've got for me.
Keleketla! - Oof! Off to a bad start - atonal sax. Sounds like experimental jazz shit. Female spoken word vocals. How long is this one? A little over 5 minutes. Could be worse, but that's still a little over 5 minutes too long. Actually, maybe it's guy. Either way, it's like a mixture of my two least favorite genres, jazz and hip-hop. 1.7
END - Oh dear. Loud, distortie guitars with rah rah vocals. Can I lose power again? Another one that's a little over 5 minutes. I'm outside of my body, I'm outside of my body, I'm outside of my body ... Ooo, they snuck in some quiet, ethereal vocals. Trying earn back a few tenths of a point, eh guys? OK. Changing pace at the end. Why does hardcore always sound like it's just a couple of short, unrelated songs stuck together? 2.0
Gil Scott-Herin and Jamie XX - Not looking forward to this one either. Oo, some echoey electronic stuff. That's actually a pleasant surprise. Almost 6 minutes long, but this isn't bad. Thank you, Jamie XX, whoever you are. Weird, trippy little sounds. And I can relate. NY is killing me, too. 3.4

ArsMoriendi
08.07.20 | Yeah Potsy actually likes quite a bit of rock music, he just pretends he doesn't for what I assume are 2 reasons:
1. He feels rock is over worshipped and that criticizing it helps bring down it a peg so people will be more open to other styles of music
2.It makes him look edgy and trendy, as modern music shifts away from organic techiques, he refuses to be left behind with the old farts who insist that music used to be better

08.09.20 | Exquirla - Slow, melodic start. More pronounced drum than you'd expect. Kind of sad feel. Video showing Bob Ross and his happy little clouds. Almost three minutes in, and I had just about given up on vocals, but now we get some. Male voice, deep, almost whispering. This is kind of pretty. Let's see if it holds up for 10 minutes plus. Vocals are a little more intense now - guy has moved into a higher range, too. Now some electric guitar slices into you. This song does a good job of building. Oops, now we're into an entirely different movement. Now YouTube cuts the song in the middle for a commercial about kids' pools. Fuck you, YouTube! Skip Ad. Ok, we're back. Damn, I hate when they do that mid-song. Assholes. OK, some fairly dramatic guitar driving the action here. This artist in the video is drawing like a mfer here. Now the vocals have gone back to the original vocal line, but the guitar is still pretty driving. Alright, vocalist is just screaming now. We could do without that. And it's over. 08.10.20 | Todd Terje - That album cover is scaring me. Gentle synth and finger snaps opening. Hey, I remember this song - the original I mean. This is kind of a subdued version. Not bad, though. Pretty long version, at almost 7 minutes. Oh shit, this is Bryan Ferry doing the singing. I didn't recognize his voice at first. 3.2 |

08.15.20 | Zyklon-B - Air raid sirens followed by a violent storm of musical cacophony. Uh oh. Another Orc vocal. Now some guy with a muffled voice taking about total war. The beat has changed. 08.17.20 | i'll do a little write up for mine: One of the more acclaimed songwriters and vocalists in music teams up with Elton John. Elton later stated: "it was a really nice meeting and I loved him. I left feeling full of energy as I do when I meet great new artists. He’s a really talented guy. I'd love to hear him sing more, and I said this to him when we met. He's got a great voice." |
ArsMoriendi
08.18.20 | "Catch My Heart"
Mellow and jazzy. Vibes and sax maily so far. Patton's vocals are fairly chill here and fit the jazz vibe. This isn't bad, but I guess I don't love how little is going on for how long this is. I am not really huge on minimalistic type stuff, and when I occasionally do go for it, it's usually brief. This was okay.
3/5
"Let Them Eat War"
Oh, it's pop punk. Pretty meh. That rapping fits the song, but the song sucks, soooo.
2/5
"Black Gives Way to Blue"
Grunge. Du Val just sounds like a smoothe Layne, which is kinda a bad thing since grunge vocals are suposed to be grumbly at least a little. The piano and guitar are pleasant and help the sad mood work and it is about Layne's death, so I suppose it's appropriate. Kinda bland.
2.8/5
"Crystallise"
Weird hip hop jazz stuff so far. The sax is cool. This is pretty unique. I don't like the rapping much, but I do like the bass and scratches.
3.5/5 |

08.18.20 | "Sands of Sleep"
SCREAMING METAL EDGEEEEEE. Why are the vocals mixed so low all of a sudden? IT sounds awkward and like a mistake. Extreme metal might be a mistake honestly. I guess that the clean vocalist is hte feature, but he jsut sounds like he belongs in Dream Theater or something, making this even worse.
1/5
"NY Is Killing Me"
That high pitched beeping that might give me a headache, let's hope not. I've liked Scott-Heron's vocals on his own work, but what the hell are they here? Mumbly and tired sounding. I'm sorry, but this is so boring and ugly sounding, fuck. I wonder if the original version of this is good. Not the best I've heard from Scott-Heron or even close.
2/5
"Time Stands Still"
This is so 80s in a lame way. Aimee Mann is giving this song a reason to exist though, so that's okay I suppose. Neil Peart is known as an amazing drummer, but the drummer here isn't really catching my ear. Rush really isn't the kind of prog I dig at all.
2.5/5

08.19.20 | Young Thug - those of you who have been doing this every month know how this one's likely to go, but let's see. OK, a little "Rocket Man" to start, never a bad choice. Decent beat. OK, who's this butt munch rapping over Elton? Jk, I know who it is. Two and a half minutes in, and my mind is glazed over. At least this one is only a little over three minutes, so it has that going for it. Actually, way more tolerable than the average hip hop song - Mr. Thug half sings at times, the beat is good, and it's got Elton doing a line from one of his best songs. 08.22.20 | Four Stroke Baron - '80s-sounding vocal. Some electronic stuff going on, followed after a minute or so by some strident guitar. Oh God, it's gonna be an 8-plus-minutes track, huh? Not even halfway through, but kind of bored. Not liking this sax that just came in. Now almost everything stopped for a sour sax solo. (Say that three times fast.) OK, here comes a completely different guitar movement, with some woman talking underneath it. About a minute and half to go, and I'm not enjoying this at all - I can feel my face set in a scowl. That was one of those songs where I started with a score, then kept reducing it as the track went on. 1.9 |

08.24.20 | "Un Hombre"
Floaty guitar so far. Now it sounds like the mellow part of a metal song. I'm waiting for the screaming now. Pick up already song! I know you want to. Damn no pickup I guess. Sput says they're post rock? Hmmm okay? This was boring anyway. Wait, screaming! Somehow I wanted it, but this still is meh.
2.6/5
"Johnny and Mary"
I've actually heard this entire album! This one one of the only 2 songs I really care about on here, but looking back it was probably just because it was better than the others rather than good in itself. Yeah this is tiresome as hell. Had no idea Brian Ferry was the one singing on this one.
2.8/5
"High Fells"
Okay, so 30 seconds in and it's just been feedback. Wait there's the song. Screaming and abstract metal soundcapes.
1.5/5
"Then Came to Kill"
Record scratching? Hmmm and now hardcore vocals. I kinda like the weird bumble bee guita though, very unique. Haley's vocals are mixed so low that they sound like another song playing. at the same time instead of part of this song. Man, this is abysmal, but the bumble bee guitar style that was there for a second was neat.
1.3/5
"End of the Time"
I don't really care for this, but it might as well be a masterpiece compared to that list one. The Korn part makes this way lamer though. Man, this month's picks fucking suck. So many metal choices, even Potsy brought Nu-metal into the mix. You'd think a ft. heavy month would have more electronic and pop choices, right? It had enough okay elements to not bother me, but I don't like this.
2.5/5
"Make Up Dub (Sofheso Remix)"
Weird IDM techno stuff, okay.I see the appeal of this, it's like if you took techno and made it so abstract that you could no longer dance to it with a weird robo lady voice. Very futuristic! In a month of terrible choice, this is very pleasing. Outside of that context, it's decent.
3/5 |
ArsMoriendi
08.24.20 | "Total Warfare"
Stop with the extreme metal guys, I want to like these. Bad production, showoffy shredding and growling and WAIT hip hop beats? Wait, that was only brief, back to the black metal or whatever. This blows, sorry. "Anything contributing to depopulating Earth is good" okay edgy. -.1 for thatl line.
1.9/5
"World Destruction"
Rebelious punk + rebelious hip hop. Kinda a match made in heaven, right? Not my favorite thing, but probably oe the best here so far.
3.4/5
"In and Out of Love"
This a guilty pleasure? It's halfway decent though! Like I could get down to this in a club, y'know once COVID ends.
3/5
"It Remembers"
Bluesy intro. So far this reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age, oddly enough. Not something I'd expects from a metalcore band featuring a Panic! at the Disco guy. Urie hurts the song though sadly with his whines. Overall this is good enough though.
3.2/5
"High"
Is this really featuring Elton John if it's just him being sampled? It's not like he wrote Rocket Man for it to be sampled 40 years later. I mean it's too late, but I wish I knew because I would've disqualified this. Outside of that... this is just gross trap with a Rocket Man sample.
1.5/5 |
Divaman
08.25.20 | Weekend Nachos - Hmm - just a minute and 16 seconds. Good thing. A vocalist who sounds like he gargles with razor blades, and just a few seconds in, we already have a speed change. A different vocalist with a distinct British accent. Not especially sweet, but short, anyway. 2.6 |
Divaman
08.27.20 | Ministry - Some guy talking, facetiously, followed by heavy rock lick. Echoey vocals. Pleasing guitar riff. Wish they were taking it more seriously. 3.2 |
Divaman
08.28.20 | Blonde Redhead - A bunch of slightly dissonant guitar followed by an inside-out sounding female vocal. Instrumental chorus. OK, but a little sour for my taste. Not something I'll be going back to. 2.9 |
ArsMoriendi
08.28.20 | "Musicawi Silt"
So this is post punk jazz? Or just a jam? This is cool and all, but I don't see myself going back to this.
3.5/5
"Daddy's Gone"
Alt country with Dangermouse and The Cardigans girl? Weird. It's pleasant the the weird background whistling is unique. Not bad.
3.5/5
"Video Maniacs"
Exaggerated (in a bad way) Depeche Mode type vocals, heavy riffs. Bland prog metal with bad vocals that hardly even fit. At least this ethereal saxophone solo part is chill. This last minue of tape clicks and trumpet seems like it's trying to pad out the song for some reason.
2/5
"The Fountain"
Proggy vocals over club music. Okay then. This beat is so boring though, like it doesn't even make me want to dance. It's inoffensive enough sounding, so I don't hate it though.
2.4/5
"Chic Tweetz"
Why does this give me 80a Zappa vibes? Like have you heard "The Planet of My Dreams" from Them or Us? Except I guess a bit more synthy. But those backups, uh I actually like this? It's very original and catchy and funny.
4/5
"Jock Powerviolence"
Heaviness, ugliness, but at least it was short?
2.2/5
"A Rose by Any Name"
So it's apparently about loving your unborn child no matter what. It's a fun dance track, I'll give it that, even if it doesn't have that spark that older Blondie had.
3.1/5
"Symphony of Treble"
Finally some good guitar, damn. Good bass too. I like Kazu's voice on Misery Is a Butterfly and it's so interesting to hear it employed in such a different way here. This is a great song. Best of the moth by far, actually.

08.28.20 | In And Out Of Love - I have a friend who's a van Buuren fan and he always tries to push some of his hits - with varying success - but I've never heard this before. It's good if somehow super dated. 3.4/5
It Remembers - Wait, this is the Money bass line! What a rip off. Nah it's fine, definite QOTSA vibes. 3.5/5
High - Trap beats AND autotune. You're spoiling us! Impressive how little actual songwriting there is in this. 2/5
Musicawi Silt - Ethiopian funk classic! I don't even mind the sax. Sweet song. I wish it did more things, it kinda loses steam as it goes. 3.8/5 |
Divaman
08.29.20 | The Bug - Slow, staticky and electronic, with echoey female vocals. Kind of a tense feel to it. Cool enough, although it feels like there's not much to it. 3.1 |

08.29.20 | oh yeah i was supposed to do this i'll listen tomorrow |

08.29.20 | Skeng by The Bug is one of the best songs ever made |
Pangea
08.30.20 | Chic Tweets - i guess this was supposed to be funny but it only annoyed me. 1.0
Jack Powerviolence - decent heavy song. it seemed to end really abruptly though. 2.9
A Rose By Any Name - really fun synth pop song. i liked the break in the bridge. 3.8
Minstry - i love the instrumentals. it's a really nice up-tempo rock song with great riffs. wasn't the vocals as much though. 3.5 |
Trifolium
08.30.20 | I need to do a mega catch up to this. As in: start this and finish it at the same time. |
Pangea
08.30.20 | Symphony of Treble - nice, noisy rock song. 3.5
Void - not at all that memorable but pretty cool nonetheless. 3.2
Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win - there's a lot going on here but is all great. 3.8
TellMeSomethingIDontKnow - i don't like andy hulls vocals but he was okay in this song. the song itself was okay too i guess. 3.0

Egarran
08.30.20 | Video Maniacs - This was OK but boring. And the band agrees, so they hired a sax to spice things up. Bad idea! But I don't really like The Shining. 3/5
Immersion - This does nothing except remind me of football montages. 2.5/5
Chic Tweetz - Annoying af confirmed. 2/5 |

08.30.20 | I'm glad you all loved the weekend nachos track

08.30.20 | The Beastie Boys - Oh dear God, not the Beastie Boys. Sigh. OK, on with it. Never especially a fan of Santigold either. Some electronic stuff. Tolerable so far. Whoa, singing. (Doesn't feel like it goes with the electronic opening, but OK.) Do The Beastie Boys sing these days? Now a higher pitched bridge. Is that Santigold, or a guy singing falsetto? Very chill song. Much to my surprise, 3.0 |
Minushuman24
08.30.20 | 5. Crystalise - Keleketla! - I don't know either of these artists but this fusion of jazz and hip-hop is excellent. I am in love with the instrumental band, and the programmed drums and electronics actually compliment the (assumingly) live band. The MC is not exactly my cup of tea, but they have a lovely flow, with some wonderful lyrics. I will definitely return to this. 3.9
6. Sands of Sleep - END - Not exactly a surprising collaboration, but END is just straight up filthy and I love it. The best current metalcore going on right now, absolutely crushing stuff. 3.8
7. NY is Killing Me - Jamie XX - I love the original version of this song, so I am interested in this collab. Unfortunately I this isn't really doing much for me. Some of the beats are nice, but this fails to be very memorable. Gil sounds rough which makes sense, so it makes me sad that I don't really care for this. 2.8
8. Time Stand Still - Rush - So far this is probably the most tolerable Rush song I've ever heard. The chorus kinda sucks though. But the verses are actually genuinely fantastic, and Aimee is a fantastic addition to this song. 3.5
9. Un Hombre - Exquilra - This is a very pretty song, but unfortunately it doesn't sound exactly spectacular. It reaches into the prog/power metal territory a bit too much for my liking. 2.6
10. Johnny and Mary - Todd Terje - what a lovely floaty song. This is just nice to vibe and exist to. 3.5
11. High Fells - Full of Hell - I really need to check out this full release. It is a meandering noisey affair, if not lacking a little bit of substance 3.6
12. Then Came to Kill - The Chariot - it has been a long time since I heard this album, never was a huge fan. But I love Hayley Williams with all my heart so I'm excited. This is old school abrasive Chariot, lacking heavily on the melody that made them amazing later in their life. Yeah, Hayley's vocals are sadly lacking on this track. Big Disappoint, now I know why it wasn't saved to my Spotify. 3
13. End of Time - Q-Tip - I love Q-Tip, Korn not so much. What is this beat, this is weak as fuck. The Korn portion isn't even offensive. This isn't even fun it is just a nothing track. 1.2

08.30.20 | (i just read that entries are closed and now i am sad, please accept these submissions in comment form only)
i feel that there have been a bunch of (semi) surprising collabs/features lately....
i'll submit a few and you can choose which is actually surprising i guess
1. taylor swift/aaron dessner - hoax. maybe a weird pick from folklore but i honestly like the national's quiet side mixed with tswift vocals a lot
2. tobacco/trent reznor - babysitter. psych pop with the mind behind NIN? weird idea. also not sure it really works for me
3. emma ruth rundle/thou - ancestral recall. not sure how surprising this is, but i feel their styles are pretty different. probably my favorite of the features i've listed
4. since i read the Korn entry my mind immediately went to the abomination that was korn x skrillex - narcisstic cannibal. perhaps it will remind you of a simpler time :) |
Minushuman24
08.30.20 | tobacco/Trent?! how have I missed this all my life |
Egarran
08.30.20 | I want an Ancestral Recall
Good song too. I feel a 4/5 |
ArsMoriendi
08.30.20 | "Void"
Trap snares and spacey pop. Kinda of minimal, and not for me at all, but it wasn't bad or anything.
3/5
"Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win"
An 11 minute extended version with hip hop and reggae music, okay. Cool music video, but I gotta focus on the song. Pausing the music for an action scene? Do I even count this part? Kinda wish you didn't pick the music video, honestly. Wel it's a dragging extended section now of R&B reggae without much hip hop, which is unexpected. It was fun overall, actually. The video helped that.
3.5/5
"TellMeSomethingIDontKnow"
Boring modern hip hop with lazy vocals I don't care for. I don't like anything about this honestly. Bland and annoying, but maybe inoffensive?

08.30.20 | 18. It Remembers: Yep it's an Every Time I Die song. - 2/5
19. High: Elton high-key a legend for featuring on Young Thug and Lady Gaga tracks tbqh. Also now I know what fuccboi's listen to while they cry. Honestly this kind of reminds me of that Logic song about suicide a lil bit oops - 2.5/5
20. Musicawi Silt: grooves - 3/5
21. Daddy's Gone: I distinctly remember liking this album but this is shit so I don't know anymore - 2/5
22. Video Maniacs: I was fully anticipating hating this but it was actually pretty good. But then I realized I was listening to the wrong song (Planet Silver Screen). The correct song was pretty good too! I should hate these vocals but I really don't for some reason. - 3.5/5
23. The Fountain: The worst electro band of all time with the worst prog rock musician/singer of all time, what a fucking treat - 0.5/5
24. Chic Tweetz: This is the worst fucking song I've heard in my entire life - 0/5
25. Jock Powerviolence: I liked this album at one point as well but this sucks - 1/5
26. A Rose By Any Name: No idea how Diva finally managed to contribute a listenable track but here we are - 3.5/5
27. Jesus Built My Hotrod: Monotonous hillbilly trash - 1.5/5
28. Symphony of Treble: Why do you rec shit like that insufferable tentenko song when you have recs like this up your sleeve? - 3.5/5
29. Void: v cool - 3.5/5
30. Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win: Excessively loud sound effects in the vid were ruining any chance of this getting higher than a 1 from me so I had to switch to the normal legnth album version. Then it was really good. - 4/5 but the music video version is 1/5
31. TellMeSomethingIDontKnow: This gets brutally discordant at the 1:10 mark and just can't seem to get its shit back together from there. - 1.5/5 |
ArsMoriendi
08.30.20 | I mean is Elton REALLY being "featured" if it's just a sample from a song that came out 40 years prior? Would that make all songs that sample vocals features? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
08.30.20 | if its just a sample then it doesn't count ya |
ArsMoriendi
08.30.20 | At least it's not as bad as when Kanye West "featured" Otis Redding, who died in 1967 |
widowslaugh123
08.31.20 | Damn I wish I would’ve linked you the regular for 30. The music video is fucking obnoxious but kinda funny I guess. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
08.31.20 | Why would they crank the sound effects that loud? So obnoxious, you cant even hear the song
|
Colton
08.31.20 | it literally says "ft. Elton John" in the title... how is that not a feature |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
08.31.20 | Calling a sample a feature for clout doesn't make it a feature. If ars is correct and it is just a sample and Elton didn't provide any original material for the track then it is not an actual feature. If features could be constituted of cleared samples every hip hop track of all time would have some pretty impressive features. Hell, I could whip up a beat featuring Beethoven right now. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
08.31.20 | If I called a pig a snake would you be confused as to how it's not a snake?
|
Colton
08.31.20 | Depends on whether I can actually see it. Cause I'm pretty confident I can visually discern a pig from a snake, they're pretty different. If I was just taking your word for it and couldn't actually verify what the animal was myself and you called a pig a snake then that would be confusing. But it would mostly be on you for lying |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
08.31.20 | Lol well then if it's a sample this is mostly on thugger for lying |

08.31.20 | SotD is serious business.

08.31.20 | Bones - Spacey intro. Then the music kicks in with gentle guitar and a somewhat poppish singer. A bunch of his buddies chime in on the chorus. It's OK. 2.9 |

08.31.20 | finally getting round to this because i dont wanna be that guy who recs and doesnt contribute so here we go
1. Thrush - very cinematic, wish the industrial elements werer a bit more pronounced though, could have used more bite 3.3
2. Catch My Heart - the instrumental is great, but i hate Patton's voice here, really very distracting from how hypnotic the rest is 3.4
3. Let Them Eat War - works pretty well and the song is good, but sage doesn't really add much to the br formula 3.6
4. Black Gives Way to Blue - pretty good ballad, tragic event, very simple but it doesn't really need to be complicated 4.0
5. Crystallize - really sick tune, some awesome rhythms here, yugen's vocals are very on point, very well put together as a whole 4.4
6. Sands of Sleep - some nice ideas, but they're buried by some awful production which leaves everything sounding muddy and impactless, the breakdown near the end should have been way more exciting than it was 2.9 (like 3.8 if production was better) |
Egarran
08.31.20 | Jock Powerviolence - No. 2.1/5
A Rose By Any Name - Urgh. But yeah that break saves it. 2.5/5
Jesus Built My Hotrod - Only song here I knew and I never liked it. 2.3/5
Symphony of Treble - I think you guys are right - this IS the worst month ever. Ouch, I lasted almost 2 minutes with this, then it hurt too much. 2/5
Void - Twas nice, didn't do a lot. But that's way above average for August. 3/5
Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win - Well that was unpleasant. Should have gone with No Sleep Til Brooklyn! 2/5
TellMeSomethingIDontKnow - Not too bad, at least it didn't hurt. 2.7/5 |
