Ranking Opeth's classic decade.

I'm talking about every studio album between 1998 and 2008. Not only does that time span include their most beloved works, but they're also the only albums I've listened to so far.

Deliverance

Wow, this is just disappointing. The production is horrible and the songs are way too long. Too think that they would do something as great as Damnation and as underwhelming (for Opeth's standards) around the same time?
Best tracks: Deliverance, A Fair Judgement
Rating: 3/5

Watershed

This album gets off to a phenomenal start. Coil is a nice clean track, Heir Apparent is heavy as shit, Lotus Eater is really interesting, and Burden is a great, accessible track. But after that, it gets a bit boring.
Best tracks: Heir Apparent, Burden
Rating: 3.6/5

My Arms, Your Hearse

A phenomenal production and an interesting concept. While I don't believe it to be as good as a lot of other people do, it's still an excellent record.
Best tracks: Demon of the Fall, April Ethereal, When
Rating: 4/5

Damnation

This was my first Opeth album. I'd of course heard the name a billion times before, but I never got around to actually listening to Opeth, because I always wrote them off as Death Metal, and I didn't like Death Metal. When I got this album as a gift, I was surprised at how mellow it was. It really grew on me and was a good stepping stone to Opeth's other works.
Best tracks: Windowpane, In My Time of Need, Closure, To Rid the Disease
Rating: 4.4/5

Still Life

Still Life is probably best know for its concept. A man returns to his village to reunite with his love. He'd previously been banished from the village due to his atheism (The village is very religious). If that doesn't sound interesting to you, this album's still got a ton to offer. Great songwriting, great instrumental work, and great vocals. It might take a few listens to fully wrap your head around, but it's worth it.
Best tracks: The Moor, Godhead's Lament
Rating: 4.5/5

Ghost Reveries

After listening to Damnation, I didn't bother to listen to other Opeth albums for a while. Then, some day, I got to this album, and boy is it great. Ghost of Perdition is one of the best tracks that Opeth have ever written. And the other songs are phenomenal as well.
Best tracks: Ghost of Perdition (duh), The Baying of the Hounds, Harlequin Forest
Rating: 4.6/5
1Opeth
Blackwater Park

Do I need to explain anything? Blackwater Park has almost achieved a cult-like status in both Prog and Death Metal. Of course, like almost any other Opeth record, it's a bit overrated. No, it's not the best album of all time. But it's still amazing.
Best tracks: All of them (except for Harvest, that one's a bit boring compared to the rest)
Rating: 4.6/5
