David Bowie Ranked
This past week, I finished my marathon of David Bowie's discography, all the way from his eponymous debut to Blackstar. Prior to embarking on this journey at the end of April, the only albums I had heard in full were Ziggy Stardust and Station to Station. I was very pleased with Bowie's discography, for the amount of albums, there aren't very many truly bad albums. Most of these albums are gonna need many more relistens before I have definite opinions on them, but here are kind of my first impressions, though I've listened to many of these records many times. |

23 | | David Bowie Pin Ups
Favorite Song: n/a |
22 | | David Bowie Tonight
Only this high because of Loving The Alien, which is easily one of his greatest songs. Everything else is either boring or horrible.

Favorite Song: The Wedding |
20 | | David Bowie Reality
Favorite Song: She'll Drive the Big Car |

18 | | David Bowie Earthling
Favorite Song: I'm Afraid of Americans |
17 | | David Bowie Let's Dance
Nothing really bad here, and the singles all are amazing, especially Modern Love, which is a pure banger.
Favorite Song: Modern Love |
16 | | David Bowie Space Oddity
Favorite Song: Space Oddity |
15 | | David Bowie Lodger
Definitely gonna have to spin this one a few more times to actually get it
Favorite Song: D.J. |
14 | | David Bowie Outside
Lots of cool songs, just really too long and bloated. The interludes are very annoying as well.
Favorite Song: The Motel |
13 | | David Bowie The Next Day
Was hoping to love this one just a bit more, I'll have to give it a few more tries tho
Favorite Song: The Next Day |
12 | | David Bowie Diamond Dogs
Easily my least favorite of the glam rock albums, still very good tho
Favorite Songs: Rebel Rebel (cliche af, but that guitar riff is too good), We Are the Dead |
11 | | David Bowie Young Americans
This one was a very pleasant listen for me, not nearly as amazing as Station to Station would be tho
Favorite Songs: Right, Young Americans, Fame |
10 | | David Bowie The Man Who Sold the World
Lots of Zeppelin vibes here
Favorite Songs: The Man Who Sold the World, The Width of a Circle |
9 | | David Bowie Heathen
This one really surprised me. I loved most of the songs on this album, and was a total return to form, in my eyes. And then Reality came out lol.
Favorite Songs: Slow Burn, Sunday |
8 | | David Bowie Aladdin Sane
Favorite Songs: Drive-In Saturday, Cracked Actor, Aladdin Sane |
7 | | David Bowie Scary Monsters
Favorite Songs: Teenage Wildlife, Ashes to Ashes |
6 | | David Bowie Hunky Dory
What a totally solid album
Favorite Songs: Life on Mars?, Changes |
5 | | David Bowie Low
The first half of this album is unbelievably good. 11/10 material, but the second half's ambient soundscapes don't do a ton for me. Listened to this album quite a few times, but it is definitely deserving of many more.
Favorite Songs: Sound and Vision, A New Career in a New Town, Always Crashing in the Same Car, Breaking Glass |
4 | | David Bowie "Heroes"
The first half of this album isn't quite as strong as the first half of Low, but I definitely connect more with the ambient, instrumental half of this album. And "Heroes" is one of the most beautiful, powerful songs I've heard.
Favorite Songs: "Heroes", Beauty and the Beast, Sense of Doubt, Blackout, The Secret Life of Arabia |
3 | | David Bowie Blackstar
Wow, this completely lived up to the hype. I'd been hearing about this album since it came out, but this floored me.
Favorite Songs: Lazarus, I Can't Give Everything Away, 'Tis a Pity She Was a Whore, Girl Loves Me |
2 | | David Bowie Station to Station
A meticulously crafted album, and the title track is becoming one of my favorite songs ever
Favorite Songs: Station to Station, Stay, Golden Years, Word on a Wing |
1 | | David Bowie The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
Yeah, this is the cliche pick, but every single song on this album is awesome.
Favorite Songs: Ziggy Stardust, Soul Love, Five Years, Moonage Daydream, Starman |
