03.27.20 | great list man, funny enough though I haven't seen 1 or 10. Agree with all the rest. |
NightOnDrunkMountain
03.27.20 | Great picks. Glad to see the Lighthouse so high, I don't know if it was movie of the year for me but it's amazing.
Have you watched 1917 or the Endgame? |
Minushuman24
03.27.20 | solid list!
Mine would go something like: Midsommar, Parasite, The Lighthouse, Endgame, Marriage Story, Uncut Gems, Hollywood, Knives Out, Us, then idk, the dead don't die or something.
Never even heard of 10 tho |
Bedex
03.27.20 | The Lighthouse and Parasite at the top, and no 1917?
I like you |
Pheromone
03.27.20 | Great year for film |
Minushuman24
03.27.20 | Yo btw deadguy hell yeaaaa |
SteakByrnes
03.27.20 | Knives Out is such a fun movie, I loved every second of it |
Clumseee
03.27.20 | 1. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood 2. Marriage Story, 3. Parasite, 4. Booksmart, 5. Midsommar. Toy Story 4 and Endgame were really friggen fun, too! |
Clumseee
03.27.20 | ALSO. Does anyone else think US really wasn't that great at all? I still think Peele has it in him but I'm not toooooo sure about US. |
Pheromone
03.27.20 | It fuckn blew ^ |
Minushuman24
03.27.20 | It's mostly on my list cause I hadn't seen a lot of movies last year that were great.
I liked it a lot on the first viewing, but my appreciation of it has waned significantly especially comparing it to the amazing horror we got later in the year. |
widowslaugh123
03.27.20 | Cool |
IronGiant
03.27.20 | 1. Parasite 2. Uncut Gems 3. The Farewell are my top 3 |
Rawmeeth38
03.27.20 | Get Out was great i thought but i wasn't big on Us at all |
zakalwe
03.27.20 | Is midsommor worth a watch or is it warped as fuck debauched ‘arty’ nonsense? |
Pheromone
03.27.20 | its okay - hereditary is tons better |
zakalwe
03.27.20 | I’ll give ‘em both a whirl but I don’t tolerate debauchery. Not in this house! |
Deez
03.27.20 | Lighthouse for me. Love Parasite of course but Lighthouse is more my think.
Midsommar I just wasnt as crazy about as most. It was good but it never realy weirded me out like Hereditary. The score is phenomenal though. I watched 'Shadow' but the guy who did House of Flying daggers last night and thought it was dope if you like that type of thing.
Honestly 'Us' I turned off with about 30 mins left which I rarely do, It was doing my head in. |
notagenius
03.27.20 | i don't think Parasite deserves all the oscar awards.
the story is a rip-off of Alex van Warmerdam's Borgman
top 0 Uncut Gems
top 1 Uncut Gems
top 2 Uncut Gems
1917 is COOOLLL
Knives Out is Smooooth
I like "US", it is difficult, truly had some pain while watching it, but it pays off.
I still didn't finish Irishman. my bad. its length and awkward facial visual effect freaked me out. |
Rawmeeth38
03.28.20 | The last hour of the irishman is really what did it for me |
Rawmeeth38
03.28.20 | Also yeah i loved midsommar but hereditary is phenomenal |
neekafat
03.28.20 | these are all great except for 7 ofc
haven't seen 10, should change that |
zakalwe
04.04.20 | Watched Midsommar. Loved it!!! |
Pheromone
04.04.20 | actually a bit surprised at that |
zakalwe
04.04.20 | Absorbing as fuck, loved the bad trip experience and the whole commune set-up. Plus the actual thing looks amazing. A proper film.
|
notagenius
04.04.20 | yes. midsommer is better than hereditary imo. |
Pheromone
04.04.20 | strong disagree. midsommar is one of those pure-atmosphere films which draws you in but there's not much to it (same with lighthouse tbh) - hereditary is a modern horror classic! |
zakalwe
04.04.20 | I took quite a bit from it.
The blithe ignorance of the tourist.
The acceptance of cultural wrongdoings.
Mental Health.
Relationship bonds.
Lots of little visual framing and set-ups.
Fuck me, it was great. |
Pheromone
04.04.20 | Fair enough dude, glad you enjoyed it - definitely a beautifully shot film |
notagenius
04.04.20 | ah okay I prefer horror movies with a bit of humor, midsommar is somehow hilarious. |
zakalwe
04.04.20 | Mashed face off rock was lol |
Pheromone
04.04.20 | I get that - I'm not a huge evil dead fan so maybe there's something in that |
notagenius
04.04.20 | Midsommar has a lot of Nordic knowledge, like semiotics and the history of torture (blood eagle), which has a bit characteristic of cult films. Hereditary goes the classic horror movie route, like the shinning and the exorcist, which is too serious for my taste. I didn't get much out of it. We just have different preferences. |
neekafat
04.04.20 | Everyone ignored my 2019 film list :c |
Pheromone
04.04.20 | I dont know man - if we're getting deep on it, midsommar had no interesting drawn out character's whatsoever. They were all horror trope caricature's with nothing beyond the surface! I enjoyed the film but it felt very underwhelming |
zakalwe
04.04.20 | Nah the main bird was great, had a few layers to her.
Swedish bloke was superb as a cultist.
And hold up, the blood eagle thing was an actual thing?
‘The blood eagle is a ritual method of execution, detailed in late skaldic poetry. According to the two instances mentioned in the Sagas, the victims (in both cases members of royal families) were placed in a prone position, their ribs severed from the spine with a sharp tool, and their lungs pulled through the opening to create a pair of "wings".’
Christ. |
Pheromone
04.04.20 | when this ol virus blows over should we try it zak? |
Ryus
04.04.20 | top 3 are all good picks |
zakalwe
04.04.20 | Lol phero.
Can you imagine. ‘On three. 1, 2, 3’ *pop* there we go. Tea? |
notagenius
04.04.20 | @neekafat I will follow your horror thread neekkkkk, kakak
@Pheromone
to me midsommar is scarier for it says real fear with dark humor. realistic. hereditary is literary horror.
e.g.
old people died so as not to take up resources, and now Italy gives up people over 65, hell
the tourists were just like us, ignorant and disrespectful to ancient traditions, messing around
like real life, peaceful and beautiful on the surface with dirt and selfishness underneath |
neekafat
04.05.20 | I meant my 2019 list hahaha it's probably because the list name is dumb lmfao |
