Sodom Albums Ranked
First list so I'm doing one of my all time favorite thrash bands, absolute adore these guys. I love almost all of their albums so a lot of the 8s are interchangeable. |
16 | | Sodom Get What You Deserve
This album tries to go for a "live sound" which doesn't work well at all for first time listens because the songs aren't familiar. I find trying to listen to the guitar here a chore, which is sad because some of these songs are awesome and sound great on actual live albums. 5.5/10. |
15 | | Sodom The Final Sign of Evil
Some of the worst production and performances I've ever heard. The original recordings of the In the Sign of Evil songs are superior by a longshot in every way. However, the new songs are actually pretty good, nice riffs. 6/10. |
14 | | Sodom Masquerade in Blood
Similar to Get What You Deserve, but this time the production is a bit better and the songs are more standard. Some great songs overall. 6/10 |
13 | | Sodom Decision Day
Sodom's newest release is defintely the weakest of the ones in the style of their melodic thrash. The songs aren't as fast, heavy or unique as they were. Some good stuff but some is straight up boring. 6/10 |
12 | | Sodom Code Red
After 3 commercial duds, Sodom goes back to thrash. I always found it funny how it seems they "stayed hidden" in the 90s when thrash went under, instead of resorting to alt metal, nu-metal (or disco if you're Megadeth). This release is generic and doesn't have the best production, but it does have a few genuinely awesome songs. 7/10 |
11 | | Sodom Obsessed by Cruelty
Hopefully I don't get castrated for putting it this low, I just find other releases more solid. Still great riffing and evil production here. As proto-black as it gets. 7.5/10 |
10 | | Sodom 'Til Death Do Us Unite
Really underrated. Easily their best release during this era, they kept going for the simple thrash, but the production sounds a lot better, clearer and heavier. More melodic and lots of bangers 8/10. |
9 | | Sodom Epitome of Torture
Pretty much the exact same as In War and Pieces, but only slightly not as good in quality. 8/10. |
8 | | Sodom M-16
I find this their most overrated album. Its good as hell, but not their best work. The production here sounds really grating and Tom's voice fucking sucks on a few songs (Napalm in the Morning) . Lots of awesome songs though, and that fucking Trashmen cover is beastly. 8/10. |
7 | | Sodom Sodom
Great solid melodic stuff, some of their best songs. Pretty simple but probably amazing to listen to good ol' Sodom how you remember them for the first time since 1990, 8/10. |
6 | | Sodom In War and Pieces
A big breath of fresh air after The Final Sign of Evil, Sodom returns to the modern sound found on their self-titled album. I think this is their best out of the recent melodic-thrash stuff they've been doing. Really solid stuff here, fun as hell. 8/10. |
5 | | Sodom Tapping the Vein
Definitely the biggest "What the fuck?" moment in the Sodom discog, the riffs resemble a groove/death-like album and has an ear piercing tone. That being said, it somehow absolutely bangs. Heavier than anything they've done, you can't help but headbang whenever The Crippler comes on. Does feel a bit long though. 8/10. |
4 | | Sodom Agent Orange
Might be a teensy bit overrated, but I still respect the hell out of. You got straight forward killers like title track, slow melodic bits like Remember the Fallen and simple catchy punk shit like Ausgebombt. Lots of diversity here and it all shreds. Too bad it still isn't on Spotify for the US :( 8.5/10 |
3 | | Sodom Persecution Mania
Still retains a lot of the black-like production and darkness of previous releases, but takes a major step of really focusing in on the thrash aspect. Dark, fast, and heavy. No complaints at all besides it isn't as varied in terms of song types as Agent Orange is. 8.5/10 |
2 | | Sodom Better Off Dead
Usually considered the worst of their first four, this one's actually my favorite. We see a punkier side of Sodom but still thrashy as ever. Not every track is peak quality or uniqueness, but hell, half this album is some of their best tracks. Title, Tarred and Feathered, Shellfire Defense, Turn Your Head Around and FUCKING AN EYE FOR AN EYE. 9/10 |
1 | | Sodom In the Sign of Evil
Not an album but this release is perfection. The playing is sloppy and evil, but extremely skilled (that tremolo picking is insane). The production is raw and black as hell, but sounds very very smooth. The drumming, the riffs, the vocals, the song writing is all superb on here. 10/10 |
