Squirrel's top15 albums of the year 2019
plus one EP but it was too good not to include |
15 | | Soen Lotus
Quite formulaic but still really well done. 4/5 |
14 | | The Claypool Lennon Delirium South of Reality
Some nice psychedelic jams here. 4/5 |
13 | | La Dispute Panorama
A great album but not really my thing. 4/5 |
12 | | Get Scared The Dead Days
I have a lot of nostalgia for this band so I know I'm probably overrating this but who cares. 4/5 |
11 | | Children of Bodom Hexed
Sad to see them gone after their best album in years, but maybe now both halves of the band will start making something that doesn't sound the same as their last five albums. 4/5 |
10 | | Malibu Ken Malibu Ken
One of the few rap albums I listened to this year and it really impressed me with the weird beats and great lyrics. 4/5 |
9 | | Holding Absence Holding Absence
Not a very original sound but I think they execute it well here. 4/5 |
8 | | PUP Morbid Stuff
Easily one of the best pop punk bands around. 4/5 |
7 | | Norma Jean All Hail
Didn't expect to like a metalcore album this much considering that I got really burned out on the genre a couple years back when it was all that I would listen to. 4/5 |
6 | | The Devil Wears Prada The Act
I really like that these guys are experimenting with their sound this late into their career. All the ingrediants of an excellent album are here this still has some dull moment and some of the songs sound samey. 4/5 |
5 | | Leprous Pitfalls
This is the first Leprous album I've heard so there's a chance that my opinion of it will plummet after I hear the rest of their stuff but for now I think that it's a great mix of pop rock and proggier elements. 4/5 |
4 | | Cara Neir Part III / Part IV
A fresh mix of sounds and the album is short enough to not become repetitive. The ambient sections could've been implemented better. 4/5 |
3 | | Ghost (SWE) Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic
I know that some fans don't like Ghost's new poppier direction, but I'm not one of them. 4.5/5 |
2 | | Thom Yorke Anima
Radiohead is my favourite band so not terribly surprising that I ended up loving this. Somehow I've avoided listening to Yorke's other solo works but if they're even close to this level of quality I'll have to get on it soon. 4.5/5 |
1 | | Common Holly When I say to you Black Lightning
Yeah this is my AOTY no questions asked. The whole year I was waiting for something to really hit me, and then I heard this. It's just the right amount of experimentation mixed with beautiful indie folk melodies. 5/5 |
