Spoon Albums Ranked
I've been jamming Spoon a ton lately, and they've emerged as one of my favorite bands. Here's my attempt to rank their studio albums. Quite a nice discography. |
1 | | Spoon Girls Can Tell
I'd consider this the first album where Spoon really found the sound they became known for. It's also their most consistent album in my view, great stuff all the way through. |
2 | | Spoon Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
The quintessential mid-era Spoon album. I find it slightly less consistent than Girls Can Tell, but also a near-classic. |
3 | | Spoon They Want My Soul
Spectacular late career album. A few forgettable tracks along with a lot of the band's best songs. |
4 | | Spoon Series of Sneaks
While there are elements of Spoon's later poppy and accessible sound on here, this one still exhibits traces of the band's earlier tendency towards shorter, punk-influenced tracks. It's a great and overlooked album in its own right. |
5 | | Spoon Kill the Moonlight
This album has some filler in my view, but it's also got a nice, groovy vibe and some excellent songs. Middle of the road by the band's standards, but still a very great album. |
6 | | Spoon Hot Thoughts
I was pretty disappointed with this one upon release, but it's grown on me pretty hard since then. Lots of nice songs, and a more "dancey" sound somewhat unique in the band's latest output. |
7 | | Spoon Gimme Fiction
I find this album to be quite uneven, a number of career highlights along with a bunch of forgettable tracks. Definitely the weakest mid-career Spoon album in my view, but still great and a step up from the last two albums on this list. |
8 | | Spoon Telephono
Spoon's oft-forgotten debut LP showcases a very different sound then what you would expect from the band. It's raw and iffy in parts, but also has some nice songs. Not essential but an interesting album worth the occasional listen. |
9 | | Spoon Transference
This album is an anomaly in my view of Spoon, really their only album which feels uninspired. This has all the hallmarks of a good Spoon album and is a pleasant enough listen, but not a single song stands out as memorable and I don't tend to listen to this one over any other album in the discography. |
