My 2019 aoty's
decent year for tunes, now as great as last I reckon |
1 | | American Football American Football (LP3)
phenomenal album. probably better than their original but it just doesn't have the history behind it |
2 | | Periphery Periphery IV: Hail Stan
very fun listen, periphery is firing on all cylinders now. and the production is amazing. reptile is an all-time track by the boys |
3 | | In Her Own Words Steady Glow
immature, but fun album. rose by the ocean up there for song of the year |
4 | | Infinity Shred Forever, A Fast Life
favorite post rock album of 2019. this is a great new variation of sounds in the genre with awesome electronic and even metallic elements |
5 | | Strung Out Songs Of Armor And Devotion
vocals sound much weaker as the singer gets older but the new drummer brings new life to the music. |
6 | | Slipknot We Are Not Your Kind
not even a big slipknot guy, but this is the best thing they've ever released. perfect gym music. |
7 | | Parliament Owls A Span Is All That We Can Boast
now here's some post hardcore I can get behind. great blend of fall of troy, protest the hero, and unique vocals. good grooves in the music too |
8 | | Pray for Sound Waves
good groovy post rock. their last release was better but this one takes their sound and does a 180 |
9 | | Jimmy Eat World Surviving
its ok. honestly the hype on this is overblown. I love JEW, but coming after integrity blues, its just no competition |
10 | | Saor Forgotten Paths
my favorite "black" sounding release this year. but then again I haven't gotten into Fen yet, which is sounding promising. the atmosphere on forgotten paths is amazing and the length is perfect. |
11 | | Yours Truly Afterglow
favorite EP of the year. I really can't wait to see where this Aussie female fronted band goes with a full length release |
12 | | Codes In The Clouds Codes in the Clouds
awesome cinematic post rock release. it loses me at some parts, but there are some stand out moments here for sure. yndi halda is my favorite band in this genre and they borrow some elements from them |
13 | | Ben Rosett ANGELESIS
very fun instrumental record. the opening track has been my alarm clock all year and im still not tired of it |
14 | | The Bouncing Souls Crucial Moments
the jersey boys bring some new vigor into their sound, and stay away from politics making this a very fun, yet nostalgic listen |
15 | | Blink-182 Nine
its aiiiight. mark is annoying me lately though. may be time to throw in the towel |
16 | | The Bottom Line No Vacation
fun pop punk like simple plan with less than Jake vocals. nothing deep, just a boppy listen |
17 | | CHON CHON
honestly a letdown after homey but still listenable. Ben Rosett beats this out and its not even close |
18 | | Wristmeetrazor Misery Never Forgets
thought this scene was making a comeback early in the year but the screamo sound didn't have much lasting power. |
19 | | Mono Nowhere Now Here
early on when post rock was waning in 2019 this was up there for me. quite a few more releases made me take my ear off it |
20 | | Stephen Taranto Permanence
Stephen could make a good splash in the future of the nu-prog scene. we need someone else besides Plini |
