| The Most Breathtaking 30 seconds
What are your most breathtaking 30 seconds in music you've ever heard? Short pieces or climaxes that you would put a whole album on just for these satisfying and truly fulfilling moments. They can be passages that work phenomenally on their own, or parts that only work withing the context of their greater work. Listen to this list on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Hvvd7OfaMTtGcrO0NAdmF?si=3le-QyZ8TUarhqOqrj_7ZQ | 1 | | Mono Hymn to the Immortal Wind
Everlasting Light - 9:30-10:00, by Scheumke
The conclusion to a very slow and emotional instrumental song. A review on sput described this climax as standing on the edge of a cliff. Whether the conclusion ends with you stepping away or falling off is for you to decide, but I've always found this part to be so filled with anticipation that I will literally hold my breath for its conclusion. | 2 | | Ne Obliviscaris Citadel
Painters of the Tempest - Part II - Triptych Lux - 15:20-16:00, by Scheumke
I like properly build-up climaxes it seems. This one comes as the conclusion of a tapestry of blackened prog-death goodness. All the individual pieces of the puzzle align in a glorious soaring crescendo that sounds to me like the gates of heaven opening up (and I'm not even religious). | 3 | | God Is an Astronaut All Is Violent, All Is Bright
Suicide By Star - 3:49-4:30, by Sinternet
the double bass drumming at the end of God Is an Astronaut - Suicide by Star always gets me | 4 | | Trespassers William Different Stars
In a Song - 3:20-4:00, by JesperL
second chorus of in a song by trespassers william, like 3:20 - 4:00 ish. so damn gorgeous | 5 | | The Field Yesterday and Today
Leave it - 7:55-8:25, by Trifolium
https://youtu.be/hy6xvN9UcZU
The way this amazing bassline is introduced and slowly emerges from the shuffle is mindblowing. One of my fave moments in music. It cannot be caught in 30 seconds, the whole track revolves around this beautiful line emerging from the depths and its synergy with the beat fitting better every iteration, but this is how it is reintroduced in the tracks final minutes. Glorious. | 6 | | Underworld Beaucoup Fish
Cups - 0:50-1:20, by Trifolium
https://youtu.be/FKMHAiXBkSs
Hi Underworld. That bassline is such a killer, and how they introduce the beat by putting you on the wrong leg and jerking the rug from under your feet is a genious move. It works time and time again. Can't touch peak Underworld. | 7 | | Between the Buried and Me The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Telos - 6:00-7:00, by TundraL5Z
6:00 to 7:00 of Telos by btbam 'I mean, this one is a bit obvious I feel like, everything in this section works imo and is one the most "bring to nirvana" like section on Parallax 2 for me. | 8 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor 'Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress'
Piss Crowns Are Trebled - 5:25-7:00, by thedoom

Untitled III - 4:49-5:19, by Icebloom
The most beautiful climax I know…just magical, when the piano shoots up an octave after minutes of building up. | 15 | | Isis Panopticon
So Did We - 0:00-0:30, by Icebloom
The first thirty seconds of So Did We never fail to blow me away completely. (Movement lasts exactly 30 seconds, by the way – very satisfying.) | 16 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada
Blaze Bailey Finnegan III - 11:54-12:04, by Icebloom
The climax of all climaxes, honourable mention for the best 10 seconds in music. | 17 | | Alexisonfire Dog's Blood

Jazz break into total carnage, and then a final chorus where they mangle the rhythm beyond all recognition. Post-Patron Dillinger 101 | 20 | | Unwound Fake Train
Valentine Card/Kantina/Were, Are Was Or Is - 5:15-5:35, by JohnnyoftheWell
First chorus of Kantina - this track is pure misanthropy and desperation, Unwound down to the bone with the sweetest, dirtiest noise they ever played | 21 | | Melt-Banana Charlie
Introduction for Charlie - 0:29-0:59, by JohnnyoftheWell
This album kicking off is the most intense sound in the world. One of the most visceral, memorable openings ever | 22 | | Refused The Shape of Punk to Come
New Noice - 0:50-1:20, by SlothcoreSam
My 30 secs flooring would be the 5 seconds before Dennis let's lose with "CAN I SCREAM" and then the next 25 seconds. | 23 | | Satanic Warmaster Strength & Honour
Wolves of Blood and Iron - 4:43-5:42, by garas
This song has a completely satisfactory ending (4:43-5:42). The moment when the synths join in... and the last chord... ahhh, so perfect. One of the best black metal songs ever. (This song exist in different versions, and the one I'm talking about is on the split album with Archgoat.) | 24 | | Kayo Dot Choirs of the Eye
The Manifold Curiosity, by VisionsFromTheDarkSide - the bit near the end where it breaks from the massive wall of noise into the black metal riff. Absolutely mind-blowing. | 25 | | Type O Negative Bloody Kisses

The part where Type O Negative - Christian Woman goes acoustic. | 26 | | Brian Eno and David Byrne Everything that Happens Will Happen Today
I Feel My Stuff - 3:55-4:27, by grannypantys
has a great interlude from 3:55-4:27 that makes the song.
A very surprising guitar solo arises that is simple yet very emotive | 27 | | mewithoutYou Pale Horses
Lilac Queen - 2:20-3:20, by IronGiant
in honor of the recent news, one of my favorite mwY moments: a little longer than the allotted amount but the build up in Lilac Queen, from about 2:20 - 3:20, ending with "BUT I, RACING THE SUN, I ROSE, HASTENING LEST THY GATES BE CLOSED, BUT I.... I WAS BORN OF A THOUGHT OF MINE, I WAS BORN OF A THOUGHT OF MINE!" | 28 | | Oceansize Frames

The City - 3:20-3:59, by kris.
the last like 45 seconds of the city by the chariot when the instruments cut for half a second and josh is screaming THIS IS A REVOLUTION and the floodgates open and the oooohs start shit gives me chills every time | 31 | | dredg El Cielo
The Canyon Behind Her - 3:02-3:32, by gschwen | 32 | | Kaddisfly Horses Galloping on Sailboats
The Author - 3:07-3:37, by gschwen | 33 | | Restorations LP3
Separate Songs - 2:27-2:57, by gschwen | 34 | | Omega Massif Karpatia

A Golden Dawn - 4:13-5:14, by BlazinBlitzer
I'll also cheat a little here, but this right here is one of the most breathtaking moments ever recorded. Desperate vocals, masterful guitar production, perfect bass sound, and drums flying about. That's not to mention the lyrics, which are arguably as impactful as the music. | 36 | | Swans White Light From the Mouth of Infinity
Blind - 0:00-0:30, by qwenta
Best start ever. | 37 | | Prefab Sprout Steve McQueen
Bonnie - 1:50-2:20, by Let
That perfect guitar tone on that beautful solo! | 38 | | Falls of Rauros Patterns in Mythology

Re: Best start, I love the surprisingly noodly beginning of Falls of Rauros - Last Empty Tradition | 39 | | Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
Finally Free - 4:00-5:05
Probably the most goosebump-inducing thing I've ever heard. Everything from 4:00 to the end is amazing. Works every time, the context and build-up of the whole album helps a lot tho. | 40 | | Thrice Vheissu
The Earth Will Shake - 2:52-3:23
It's the most memorable part of Thrice's best song. Everything cuts out and goes to chain gang style of singing... absolutely incredible live when the entire audience joins in. The way the song comes back in right after is aptly earth-shaking. | |
Scheumke

10.22.19 | Updated it. Damn gschwen you took some effort into this one. With the list I kept it to 3 a person, so I added the first three (@Johnny my kanji and Hiragana is horrible and since everything on both Sput and Spot is written in Japanese, I have no idea what song you're talking about with Oomori Seiko).
I'll add all of the ones above the line to the Spotify playlist gschwen! It's shaping up to be a very nice and diverse playlist, thanks for the effort guys. | BlazinBlitzer
10.22.19 | This list is so, so good (24 and 28!), but it's missing something:

Best start ever. | dedex
10.22.19 | The Golden Dawn part is breathtaking for sure, but I'm not even sure it's my favourite moment of the whole album. The buildup to What Means of Witchery, maybe. | Let
