AFI - The Missing Man Ranked

On a 2010's AFI hype and here is their best work of the decade. Ranked.
5AFI
The Missing Man

5. Get Dark - A tense verse with a sick bass line unfortunately culminates into a boring, yet inoffensive chorus from Davey. At least we get that monster solo from Jade. Fun track that fits right at home with the short but sweet tracks on Blood.

The Missing Man

4. The Missing Man - The title track has all of the components to be a top tier AFI song with chilling samples and excellent usage of both strings and acoustic guitar. Hell, the instrumental at the end was downright epic. Too bad, Davey ruins the whole vibe with a borderline awful chorus. Ignoring that, you've still got a good song.

3. Trash Bat - Jade's having the time of his life here and Davey's got one of his catchiest hooks to accompany it. Trash Bat should be the gold standard for AFI jams.
2AFI
The Missing Man

2. Back Into The Sun - let's start by saying these top 2 are nothing short of astonishing to say the least. AFI hasn't released a single song in the past 10 years that has entered my top 20 or so songs without question. The fact that there are 2 is wild to me. Both are inventive and fresh and I can't get enough of them.

Back Into The Sun is one of the most emotionally satisfying songs in their discography. It's the power-ballad-esque track I've been dying for for the past 10 years now. The chorus has this almost nostalgic warmth to it and Jade decides to let loose in places where he didn't even need to making this track even better.

1. Break Angels - Slightly edging out Back Into The Sun, Break Angels is the strongest AFI song of the decade. Davey kills it here, being one of their most fun songs while still feeling powerful. This is further fleshed out with the way Adam decides to switch up the rhythm, almost completely altering the vibe for the better. The reason I love this as much as I do is because it really is AFI doing what they have the ability to do best...writing a great song that feels all their own. As if I wasn't 110% sold on the song already, that gang vocal response in the last chorus is perfect. Break Angels is a testament to just how amazing these 4 guys can still be 20 years into their lifespan as a band with this lineup and is hopefully indicative of what they still have to offer.
