This is a list I've wanted to try to make for a while. It's the best metal album of every year since metal first began in 1970. Not all the 70s albums im putting as best are necessarily metal in the traditional sense, but there isn't much to choose from.
This was a fun list idea a grip of us did back in the day, cool to see it come back around. Some real good shit on here, some familiar albums some surprises
I actually have Hard Attack rated. I might have meant to put Squawk as the best for 1972, but It seems kinda unfair to put 4 albums in a row from a band
ah i see you do have it rated! my bad
i'm pretty down with this list (budgie, priest, venom, mercyful fate, motorhead!) until the shift into 1986 or so, where i would take the fork down toward extreme black metal instead of death metal
My thing is that I never got into most of the late 80s proto black metal stuff besides Bathory. Some stuff like Filosofem or Transilvanian Hunger could totally have been AOTY, but I started out as a death metal guy so those albums have been with me for longer
thanks! yeah, I used to listen to Disturbed and Slipknot, but I was always searching for something heavier back then. That's when I came across Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel - This Is Exile, and Meshuggah.
