Tb1114
06.27.19 | was listening to The Mantle while making this list, The Hawthorne Passage was on, and I really dig that. I think after a couple more listens I'll find to love this album.
what intrigues me most about the genre is its themes of nature and spirituality, autonomy, forfeiture of self, hermitism, and transcendentalism.
that being said, like with the Blut Aus Nord record, the themes intrigue me like crazy, but the sound just doesn't entice me.
ty for listening. |

Evilfeast - Mysteries of the Nocturnal Forest |
Dimorphic
06.27.19 | This would be my primary recommendation. Excellent black metal with significant experimental/jazz/prog leanings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUnK5Ww049c
If you are into awesome vocals / melody / emotions in your BM, check out this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYHfKCjiyLo
I will almost certainly post more in this thread in the future.

06.27.19 | You need Dødheimsgard - insane band, and their guitarist is really into the buddhist imagery. I think you'd like 'A Umbra Omega'. |

06.27.19 | Awesome, all of these look interesting so far! Added them to my black metal playlist |

06.27.19 | I’m surprised you haven’t listened to Ulver’s first album. It’s along the lines of the stuff in the list |
Rowhaus
06.27.19 | The Ruins of Beverast - Rain Upon the Impure
Possibly the best bm album of all time |
Nerdurosis
06.27.19 | Ulver - Bergtatt is honestly (imo) probably the most accessible and digestible black metal album to listen to, at least from my experience. |
zakalwe
06.27.19 | As a youth scene born by dissatisfaction with ones surroundings it’s real deal as music it’s mostly bollocks. |

06.27.19 | Damn y'all this is a lot! I'll have to keep y'all updated on my BM journey as I'm going through these. Today I listened to the Mantle & Deathspell's new album (which I do really like upon first listen). It's a sunny day here in Atlanta tho, so I need to unwind with some Mingus and take a breather.
Dodheimsgard & Ulver stick out, def gonna listen to Ulver's first album soon. Gaahls Wyrd sounds cool! skimming through I appreciate the variation of vocals.
@ Bedex, ty. I thoroughly enjoy Paysage's ST (I'm tempted to go back and relisten sometime today). I love the length of the songs, the atmosphere, and the texture of the guitar that somehow breaks through the lo-fi. Again, I cannot get into his other stuff but that albums awesome. |
Arditi
06.27.19 | Mgla - Exercises in Futility
Batushka - Litourgiya
Inquisition - Bloodshed Across the Empyrean Altar Beyond the Celestial Zenith
Drudkh - Blood in Our Wells
Burzum - Filosofem
Downfall of Nur - Umbras de Barabgia |
DungeonBoy
06.27.19 | Dimmu Borgir is pretty entry level BM if you dig symphonic stuff try Enthrone Darkness Triumphant and Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia as they are both very different.
If you dig Agalloch, try giving Ulver - Bergtatt a spin.
If you're ready for more lofi/symphonic stuff try Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
If you want some frosty BM to beat the heat try Immortal - At the Heart of Winter |
Bedex
06.27.19 | Have you tried Das Tor from Pd'H? Probably his third best after s/t and Winterkalte
Drudkh - Blood in Our Wells [2]
Burzum - Filosofem [2]
Downfall of Nur - Umbras de Barabgia [2]
Ulver - Bergtatt [2] |

06.28.19 | HEY MAN that burzum album took me a while to appreciate but it is his best album to me. If you want a superior Agalloch album, listen to Ashes Against the Grain. I also prefer Pale Folklore to The Mantle.
I started to love black metal when i listened to Dimmu Borgir's first 2 albums, so check those out, and definitely also listen to their 2001 album Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia |

06.28.19 | Ok peers, given y'alls suggestions, I'm gonna listen to 1-2 of these suggestions a day for the next week & I'll post a list of what I like & don't like. I really wanna dig my teeth into the new Thom Yorke & Freddie Gibbs records too though, so we'll see what happens.
Thankfully this upcoming week is supposed to be a cloudy and rainy week in ATL

06.28.19 | Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk OR Prometheus
Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness
Summoning - Dol Guldur |
Demon of the Fall
06.28.19 | (2) for Dimmu, Emperor, Ulver's Bergtatt, Immortal (although I'd go for In the Heart of Winter for some accessible black/thash).
As you're already listening to Agalloch try their most BM-orientated album in Marrow of the Spirit, I happen to think it's their best.
Moonsorrow rule and that's the best DSO as well. |
naughtcturnal

07.20.19 | Lol ok y'all. I'll make a list sometime soon. Y'all will be disappointed. I listened to a handful of suggestions and needed a break. BM is really not my style, but I've got notes on what I liked & disliked about the albums I listened to. |

I'm incapable of forcing myself to listen to music I'm not in the mood for. We'll see what unfolds this winter when the weather captures my mood. |

10.22.19 | Sweet list. I read your obs about classic bm yet you should give a shot at Darkthrone's A Blaze in the Northern Sky. Non classical BM:
- Altar of Plagues - Teethed Glory and Injury
- Numenorean - Adore |
