06.10.19 | any of you guys fans of some of these? |
Ryus
06.10.19 | pls explain 43 bruh |
foxblood
06.10.19 | lol I think it's really funny. It has a completely open big budget freedom to it but it aims to do nothing but be silly and stupid. it has a lot of memorable scenes that are abstract stupidity just for fun that are fun to watch with others to see their reactions. I love the Rip Torn stuff. |
robertsona
06.10.19 | love the looming presence of hitchcock. do you like other movies (Bringing Up Baby) directed by Howard Hawks? he's a very iconic director in my circles, and I love THE BIG SLEEP, ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS, RIO BRAVO...(although none of those is a comedy) |
budgie
06.10.19 | i was getting read to make fun of this list but i actually love it. btw you have beetlejuice listed twice |
rockarollacola
06.10.19 | 0/10. No Critters 2: The Main Course. |
foxblood
06.10.19 | Yeah Hitchcock is great. Rio Bravo and The Big Sleep are good, I love His Girl Friday. I haven't seen a lot of his stuff though.
Thanks budgie I knew I would do that, replaced it with Ben-Hur.
you joke rock but I do actually enjoy shit like that |
robertsona
06.10.19 | yeah I imagine someone who likes Bringing Up Baby would like His Girl Friday as well. are you a fan of Leo McCarey? Not to completely dominate this list with auteurist director-focused talk but I'm curious if you'd like either of his 1937 films (released the same year yeah! woah!): Make Way for Tomorrow or The Awful Truth |
foxblood
06.10.19 | The Awful Truth is great, but it's been so long I have to rewatch it. I actually saw a lot of these movies from before the 50's for the first time as a kid. My favorite channel growing up was TCM and I know I saw it on there before but I can't remember it too well. I saw so many back then that as an adult I just try to track them all back down and remember them so I can rewatch them. Make Way for Tomorrow I have never heard of though. 'auteurist director-focused' is not a problem lol. |
Trifolium
06.10.19 | Rear Window, Once Upon A Time In The West, 12 Angry Men are very cool too, you'd probably like them a lot.
Maybe Intolerable Cruelty, Slow West, The Red Turtle for some reeeaallly good even-moderner films. |
robertsona
06.10.19 | yeah MWFT is the same director and the same year as The Awful Truth but a complete 180 in terms of mood. it's a total heartbreaker, inspired Yasujiro Ozu to make Tokyo Story. so good |
Trifolium
06.10.19 | Oh and Seven Samurai |
rockandmetaljunkie
06.10.19 | You have a nice taste my friend, but all things considered, there are a lot of classics which i guess you have not seen. For example, i don't know how one wouldn't include a film like Schindler's list, unless he hasn't seen it. |
Trebor.
06.10.19 | Freddy Got Fingered is so good |
Trebor.
06.10.19 | There's been a litany of classic movies in the past decade, maybe you're looking in the wrong places? |
JoeTex
06.10.19 | billy wilder rules |
foxblood
06.10.19 | I do love Rear Window, Once Upon A Time In The West, and 12 Angry Men. I've seen all of Hitchcock, even his silent films.
I've never heard of Slow West or The Red Turtle.
Spielberg is hit or miss for me, I love some of his movies like Saving Private Ryan and Minority Report. Schindler's list just isn't one of them.
recommend a few Treb, I'm not saying I'm any kind of expert on what's out there in modern film so that's very possible.
billy wilder is good, Some Like It Hot is a fav. |
WeepingBanana
06.10.19 | FGF is the only good film on this list
Imagine liking 6 films from the 30s lmao |
Trifolium
06.10.19 | ''I've never heard of Slow West or The Red Turtle.''
Both totally worth your time. Slow West is an New Zealand based super psychedelic Western; The Red Turtle a dialogue-less hand drawn animation film which is utterly moving. |
