dmathias52 05.16.19	4 is one of my favorite “rock” records of all time, so many amazing songs are there! Such an interesting mix of genres on here, trying to diversify my taste this much. Also def checking out 32 based on album cover alone.

DoofDoof 05.16.19	Just to say - I’ve been using the AOTY site to do this job (ranking releases by percentage score and writing in small reviews). Does negate the need for too many of these type of lists - or makes it quicker to create a list like this if you want to share, as you have an up to date reference source already there It’s a neat site for that sort of thing.

Dewinged 05.16.19	Yeah I mean, I'm sure I missed many. I basically selected 10 albums per month and went with it based on rankings in different sites and personal taste.
Dewinged 05.16.19	That said I'd love to see people's takes on this and other years. And yeah Doof, I use AOTY a lot, great site although sometimes release dates are off.
Demon of the Fall 05.16.19	Nice list. I've heard 15, wooo! Not bad at all for someone who's generally terrible at keeping up-to-date. Seeing Kylesa that high (Static Tensions is soooo much better) and Immolation that low (best Immo imo) is making me sad though. You're an insane music digesting machine by the way, just saying.

Demon of the Fall 05.16.19	OK, fair enough. Have you heard tons of other stuff from this year as well, or not really? I tried the whole current music binge thing last year (about 6-7 months in reality) and according to my calculations my average (I can only include what I actually rated, as I abandoned some) was a measly 2.92 vs a 'career' average of 3.32. This adds credence to my assumption that this isn't for me, I get more out of checking past releases i.e. when I have the whole of music history to choose from and can do so at my own pace. Now of course maybe I was just terrible at selecting the right releases, or perhaps it was a bad year, not sure on that. Not a criticism, just wanted to share that to see if anyone feels the same. There's a lot of pressure to 'keep up' in this internet age.

DoofDoof 05.16.19	Demon - yes, on RYM the average scores for my ratings fall each decade. Cherry picking old albums boosts those years - trying to listen to hundreds of albums from the 10s has damaged this decade (I don’t believe the quality of music this decade is worse than the 00s) Then again I’ve listened to a tonne of albums from the 90s and that score has stayed relatively high but maybe because I know where to explore better with that decade
Demon of the Fall 05.16.19	@budgie: Yeah I guess so, but I'm often kinder to music that's alien to me and quite tough on things I feel more familiar with, which offsets the balance somewhat.
Dewinged 05.16.19	For me, until 2016ish, it's unknown territory for me. And about this year Demon, I have listened to much less stuff, which is smth I wanted to do too.

Demon of the Fall 05.17.19	'Yeah I only seriously started listening to music in 2016 so I've been playing catch-up ever since :/' This was sort-of me, sort-of in the sense that I was previously on unplanned sabbatical. I listened to a ton of music from 15-22 (ish), then hardly anything till I was 29. The last 2 and a half years (I think) has been rather full-on. When I returned many of my old favourites didn't have the same impact on me and my taste changed almost entirely. There are/were exceptions but the difference was quite drastic. Now I'm just in constant catch-up mode, especially as I'm disinterested in a lot of the 'already digested' familiar stuff from my past so I feel under pressure to find new favourites - think I'm getting there but it's taken a while.
