Allergist
04.05.19 | Show Crowbar some love. They tread that fine line between popular and underrated. |
TheMightyScoop
04.06.19 | awesome ranking although i'd swap 2 and 1 |
Source
04.06.19 | Been meaning to check this band |
Ecnalzen
04.06.19 | Haven't heard them before.
Mebbe I shall change that. |
Allergist
04.06.19 | Yesss change that immediately! Some newcomers have issue with the vocal style but Crowbar has put out some of the best riffs in the history of metal. |
Ecnalzen
04.06.19 | Alrighty then, Odd Fellows Rest.
Let's see what you got. |
TheMightyScoop
04.06.19 | @ecnalzen im assuming based on your ratings you're not that familiar with sludge metal. for sure start with crowbar. their first 7 albums range from awesome to fantastic |
DominionMM1
04.06.19 | having broken glass at 8 is just wrong |
joshb9864
04.06.19 | Great ranking |
Ecnalzen
04.06.19 | That is accurate, Scoops.
Well, I like this, so here's to more sludge in my life!
Seems like sludge gets paired with post metal a lot so I have probably heard it in bits and pieces with some of the bands I like in that genre. |
Allergist
04.06.19 | Thataboy! You're right, sludge is often paired alot with post metal and also hardcore. Crowbar started off with a slight hardcore influence but have somewhat branched off and become their own sound.
I would definitely check out Sonic Excess too. The riffs on that one are unique in the power that they hold. Both 1 and 2 are hard 5/5's. |
Sunnyvale
04.06.19 | Band slays for days, the self-titled is probably my favorite |
TheMightyScoop
04.06.19 | @ecnalzen these are other records that got me into sludge, and they're still some of my fav records to this day:
Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops
Baroness - Red & Blue
Down - Nola
Melvins - Stoner Witch
Cult of Luna - Beyond
Isis - Panopticon
High on Fire - Blessed Black Wings
Neurosis - Times of Grace

Ecnalzen
04.06.19 | Thanks! Will work my way through more of these guys and those, too.
So much music to listen to. Love it. |
Middle18
04.06.19 | Why have you ranked their best album last? |
Allergist
04.06.19 | Interesting opinion, middle18. Life's Blood is the one Crowbar album I think is a step down from the others. It isn't bad, in fact it probably would be the best thing released by most other bands in the genre, but it's just not very interesting IMO. Some songs like "New Dawn" are essential Crowbar though... |
TheSonomaDude
04.06.19 | hell yeah Crowbar fuckin riffs tho I would swap 1 and 2. 2 is a hard 5/5 |
Demon of the Fall
04.06.19 | Only heard 1/2, both rule. Sonic Excess has some of the heaviest riffs ever written. |
Middle18
04.07.19 | @Allergist
At least you still like it man. Was honestly shocked when I saw it last tho as i feel its near flawless and it's the first album I would recommend to someone wanting to get into them
But to be fair Crowbar are so consistent that ranking them is near pointless but it's great to see some appreciation for them around here so respect. |
TheSonomaDude
04.07.19 | Downtrodden is the only Crowbar album I haven’t jammed from to back. |
MO
04.07.19 | yea 2 is 1 hard |
Allergist
07.24.20 | CROW FUCKIN BARRR |
DominionMM1
07.24.20 | broken glass is way too low |
DarkSideOfLucca
03.03.22 | broken glass is way too low [2]
Otherwise, sick ranking - I agree with most of this |
DarkSideOfLucca
05.26.22 | Im looking at this again
The first 2 are so clearly the first 2, I cant hate on this list |
