Wormed - Krighsu
Ihsahn - Arktis.
Obscura - Akróasis |
Papa Universe
03.22.19 | Some great stuff here (some mediocre too). |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.22.19 | Hey guys! Still in process this one.
this year was in fact better than I expected...
Alcest's Kodama will for sure be there. De Staat is cool but prob won't make it...I'm really curious about Agnes Obel and Be'lakor (a Notrap album of the decade should not be dismissed)...what I want is your aotys! Will try to get on others asap cause I missed them all... |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.22.19 | ahahah PapaU...this will be a laugh...the further back I go on these lists, the more exposed I'll get. So tell me which ones are the mediocre ones from this top 15? X) |
TheNotrap
03.22.19 | I just remembered you don't dig melo death...well, give it a try |
budgie
03.22.19 | 2016 was a great year.... weyes blood, she-devils, angel olsen, memoryhouse...! |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.22.19 | I don't dig formulaic or folksy melodeath but I'm curious about the melodeath of the decade ;)
sweet indie recs budg, will try to check a few |
Trifolium
03.22.19 | I think the Agnes one is my AOTY, it floored me completely.
Still does. It's produced to perfection too, listen on good headphones and fall from your seat because of happiness. |
EclipseInYourEyes

VOLA - Inmazes
The Black Queen - Fever Daydream |
TheMightyScoop

Yussef Kamaal - Black Focus
Vermin Womb - Decline
Whores. - Gold
The Body - No One Deserves Happiness
Converge - You Fail Me Redux
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity

Trifolium
03.22.19 | Oooh yeah Yussef Kamaal - Black Focus is gooood! |
Dewinged
03.23.19 | Emma Ruth Rundle's was an AOTY contender for me too, DD, don't miss on that one. |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | Reduxes that will meet this list because the experience is def improved - You Fail Me and Exoplanet.
Car Bomb and Alcest will meet the list because they are awesome.
Albums I've listened that prob won't make the list - Obscura, De Staat, Vola, Night Verses, Whores and The Body.
Will give priority to these first picks - Agnes Obel, Be'lakor, memoryhouse, NIN, Yussef Kamaal and Emma Ruth Rundle.
Once my list is done I ll check the others.
TKS for the comments and for recing me things from all genres. |
budgie
03.23.19 | butts |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | Sorry budge. Added weyes blood! Would that be your first pick? |
budgie
03.23.19 | memoryhouse - soft hate
|
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | ok then...will keep your other recs as well, when I can I ll get to them...that memoryhouse looks like a bit an underdog. PapaU and Trif didn't like X) will give it a shot anyways. |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | btw Agnes Obel release is gorgeous! On it now. |
TheMightyScoop
03.23.19 | whores doesn't make the list?? damn, that record is one of the best noise rock albums of the decade |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | if you say so I'll try to give it another shot...maybe wasn't in the mood at the time and slapped a 3 on it. |
TheMightyScoop
03.23.19 | I guess if you're not into sludgy stuff then you may not like it. Sludge/noise rock is my go-to shit so im all about that record |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | hum...I listened and thought was good...just not the 4 rate to meet my personal list. I like sludge...maybe not so much on the rock&roll side...will check it again. name and cover are cool lol |
Trifolium
03.23.19 | "btw Agnes Obel release is gorgeous! On it now."
Y E S!!!! It sooooo is. Her whole discog is amazing. Glad you like it so far! |
Trifolium
03.23.19 | Haha, budgie hates me so much for "and Trif didn't like X)" about Memoryhouse... |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | ok I'm putting it again now and I may be wrong on that 3 :P I mean, it has been a real musical growth this last couple of years, since I joined sput :P tks for your preseverance Scoop. This is cooler than a 3. |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | Ahaha I never know what to expect on dream pop...we will see
The list is pretty much done with what I have...will slowly add the write ups, and maybe some of your recs.
Will also listen to some recs asap...pretty impressed with Agnes Obel chick (listened twice this morning)...its so peacefull |
Trifolium
03.23.19 | Nice! Miss Obel is amazing. I'm checking number 23 at the moment, it's very cool, sounds a bit like Vangelis. |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | ahah but its not. it has some vibes from younger brother but more minimal (simon's posford project - from shpongle etc), chill out mode. They're Portuguese. |
Trifolium
03.23.19 | Yeah! It was mainly the first track that made me think of him. Lovely record man, I can easily see myself 4 it in the near future. Listening to their other record, 8, right now. It's at least as good so far! Great rec man! |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.23.19 | Glad you liked it. 8 has the same quality and that EP too. |
budgie
03.23.19 | YEAH trif give soft hate a2.5............let's lynch him |
Asura14
03.24.19 | Of course! I'd have the same n1 my dude...
I'd have 14 a little higher tho not gonna lie, a lot of these I haven't listened to tho |
Trifolium
03.24.19 | Noooooooo! Don't do that please, I've got so much left to do! |
NorwichScene
03.24.19 | Touche Amore, Black Peaks, Modern Baseball, Every Time I Die, The Hotelier |
Shuyin
03.24.19 | Great list, most of these would be in my 2016 list as well along with Thrice, Thank you scientist and that FUCKING DOOM SOUNDTRACK |
TheMightyScoop
03.24.19 | ill never understand why people rec bands that are already included in the list |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.25.19 | Hey Asura, for what is worth, the 4.5s go until 14 (not a precise rank, see them as recs) the 5s are in 1 and 2 and the two reduxes. The rest are some of my 4s from 2016. I liked a lot Polar Similar (prob my fave from Norma Jean) and I think its awesome when established bands don't stick to their formula and reinvent themselves - Zao its another great example of it.
Hey Shuyin! Glad you dug the list. What Doom sountrack?
Scoop...not only recd me a band already on the list but he recd me my 1...I guess I'll check my 1 again x) also checked youseff kamal, cool stuff. |
Shuyin
03.25.19 | The DOOOOOM soundtrack, brah!
https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/72426/Mick-Gordon-Doom/ |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.25.19 | I see. Does it worth to check without playing the game? |
Shuyin
03.25.19 | well yea, but don't blame me if you end up punching random people in the face :D |
neekafat
03.25.19 | "Radiohead-A Moon Shaped Pool
Electronic Experimental"
ummmmmm |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.25.19 | Well give me suggestions...its not rock or altrock anymore lol |
DDDeftoneDDD
03.29.19 | Lacking of response I put it as just "experimental"
Maaan loved the vibe on that Emma Ruth rundle. Straight to this list. TKS Dew and Trif! |
Trifolium
03.29.19 | Yeeeaaaah DDD! Love that record. Great atmosphere. |
DDDeftoneDDD
04.15.19 | How come no one recd me Inter Arma for this list!?!? .!.
settled, added to 18. |
budgie
04.15.19 | this from 2016: https://vansire.bandcamp.com/album/reflections-and-reveries |
DDDeftoneDDD
04.15.19 | Will check budge! TKS! |
Asura14
05.29.19 | Just looked at this again, think I'd like n4? Seems like something I'd like no?
Also, want some 2016 recs? haha |
DDDeftoneDDD
05.29.19 | Well Asura, Cult Of Luna is an awesome band, but maybe the dude screams too much for your taste, so that release particularly with the addition of Julie Christmas vocals you may dig. Keep an open mind and it'll worth the journey m/
As to the recs only if its something really awesome like your aoty X). I'm actually more concerned about listing more and more years..lol |
Asura14
05.30.19 | I'll check it out m/
This year is not being great for me in terms of stuff I really enjoy, gotta try other shit |
DDDeftoneDDD
05.30.19 | yap...this year has been pretty awesome for heavy shit though...DsO, FoH, Inter Arma, Numenorean, Hath, Ithaca, the controversial Warforged etc etc... |
EclipseInYourEyes
05.30.19 | 2019 is boring as fuck in terms of music....good thing last year was such a banger with so much I need to listen to |
DDDeftoneDDD
06.15.19 | Added Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. Great debut! |
DDDeftoneDDD
07.08.19 | Added Joliette's sophomore, yess. An initial 4, but potencial 4.5 for me. |
unclereich
07.08.19 | Blackstar is a solid 3 |
DDDeftoneDDD
07.08.19 | Its all about the death hype man X) |
DDDeftoneDDD
07.22.19 | Added this Brutal Sci-Fi Spanish TechDeath!!!! Wormed...watafuck!
TKS for the Rec Notrap. |
Asura14
07.23.19 | Just realised we have the same number 4 and 7 cool coincidence... Never listened to Black Star but was never a Bowie fan I guess |
DDDeftoneDDD
07.23.19 | I listened because he died X) shamelessly
that's a cool coincidence! why not the same 1?
|
Asura14
07.23.19 | It is close! but my number one strikes right in the feels... 1 and 2 are two of my favourite albums ever so that just shows how good of a year this was for me musically |
DDDeftoneDDD
07.23.19 | ooh gotcha! those damn architects X |
TheNotrap
07.23.19 | Krighsu was a killer addition |
DDDeftoneDDD
07.23.19 | Yeah man....just noticed you recd me when I first made the list...but I'm super resilient on sci-fi themed techdeath stuff...so I think I needed that EP rev of yours to give them a go...awesome album man m/ TKS a lot |
TheNotrap
07.23.19 | You're welcome D |
DDDeftoneDDD
08.14.19 | Blood Incantation is just awesome! Added. Will be spining all week! |
DDDeftoneDDD
08.21.19 | Be'lakor. Sweet jam m/. Added |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | Whores. added to the list tks to TheMightyScoop. Turns out he was right ;)
shit rocks m/ |
tectactoe
09.19.19 | Finally listened to '22, A Million' yesterday after putting it off forever. Very different from Bon Iver's previous two albums, but I really liked it. Glad to see it on this list here. |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | yes its very good...unlike this new one for me : unfortunately
What was your 2016 AOTY tectactoe?
Soon I'll jump to 2015
|
tectactoe
09.19.19 | (Still haven't listened to i,i yet...Maybe I will do that today.)
Used to be a tie between 'Blackstar' and 'The Glowing Man' but since its release, 'A Moon Shaped Pool' has continued to grow on me, and now I'd probably name that as my favorite of the year. 'Run the Jewels 3' and 'Bottomless Pit' would also get honorable mentions. |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | you'll kill me, but I never checked Swans lol...will check that one and will try to get to the others as well. |
kalkwiese
09.19.19 | My AOTY 2016 was Vom Wissen Und Wollen by Heisskalt. It's german Post Rock/Post Hardcore, really good stuff. It's probably tied with Kodama by Alcest |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | TKS Kalk...concise with single rec, just how I like it...will def check
Tectactoe is fucking me up with Swans...that shit is 2 hours!!!!! |
tectactoe
09.19.19 | Hahaha, yeah It's a long one. Their best albums are 'To Be Kind' and 'The Seer' but those are also 2 hours lmao. |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | Not a Filth dude he? |
tectactoe
09.19.19 | Don't care for much Swans before 1990, sadly, though 'Children of God' is okay, I guess. I like/love pretty much everything from 'White Light' onward, though, especially their last three (which are also their longest lol). |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | Will get to that today I hope ;)
I had 2 on the wait here and Touche Amore isn't def my thing...Black Peaks though...shit fuckin rules m/ TKS to user NorwichScene! |
Ray91
09.19.19 | Well dude, pretty similar taste I recon. Good list. A lot of the stuff would've been on my list as well |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | Sure Ray buddy...I have noticed that already..I'm really hyped with Black Peaks atm...You oughta check that if you didn't (added to list) and check some other from this list you haven't yet.
And if you can contribute with your AOTY on this one, or other 2 lists, please be welcome. My project/ goal is to go back on years making these lists with my 4 and plus rates ;) |
Ray91
09.19.19 | haha, real recognize real or so they say :D
Yeah, noticed that black peaks really gets a lot of praise but never really checked them out. More of a posthardcore thing I guess. After finishing my Soilwork run I'll check their latest record. Other recs are welcomed of course. Gotta say I really fell in love with that latest greyhaven record. But I guess you already know that
I think for 2016 ETID takes the cake, but NJ being pretty close second |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | I suggest strongly their debut, since I haven't checked the other one yet lol...Yeah if your all about ETID's and NJ (or Poison the Well's Tropic Rot f.e.) I think you'll definitely enjoy Black Peaks. Easy 4 man...but I'm just 4.5ing this bitch. |
Ray91
09.19.19 | haha alright, sound like I should check it. PTW are also right up my alley. Tropic Rot was awesome as hell and I still hope for a comeback record by them |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.19.19 | Tropic Rot ended to be my fave from PTW nowadays...If you like how true bands keep looking ahead and reinvent themselves and their sound, the latest Zao is a prime example of it as well. Share your thoughts on that Black Peaks - Statue m/ cheers |
Ray91
09.20.19 | Yeah man, that latest ZAO record was also damn good. jinba Ittai is sick as fuck and Apocalypse just sound so morbid, I love it.
Currently checking Seizures, which is also pretty rad
Also checked the latest Black Peaks and I'm really impressed of their songwriting chops. Singers versatility is quite outstanding to me |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.20.19 | Yap...true on that singer versatility! Do the debut man X) And Seizures is new to me, the vocalist is opposite non-versatile though lolol but yeah band is awesome and a new one is coming this year.
Anyway, added 3 4's to list. Plebeian Grandstand's weakest, still awesome release. Conjurer's 1st EP and this Swans from tectactoe's rec is worth of the spot...a really cool lone drone experience. |
Ray91
09.20.19 | haha yeah, will also check their debut definitely. Seizures is really awesome, yeah. Stoked for theri new record. But I think new Fit For An Autopsy and Norma Jean will rock my top list this year x) But honestly, so many releases to check out. new cult of luna, white ward (massive rec if you haven't checked them yet!) and so on.
Only heard the latest conjurer record, which was sick as hell. Will spin the rest of their disco if I find the time for it :D Wit Swans I've been having a hard time getting into them honestly. Might click later :D
If you're into some grindy, hardcore infused death metal, check Optimist. They're from Germany and their latest record called "Vermächtnis" = legacy is one hell of a ride. Think you might dig it
|
DDDeftoneDDD
09.20.19 | hum TKS for recing brotha. Will check...as you can see it was my first exp with Swans...if you can take/ embrace the atmo experience for 2 hours that's something to remember lolol....so there it is on the list. I really liked it tho X)
Will jump to CoL asap!!!!!! I'm thrilled!
Well, if NJ goes as good as the last one...I'm on board.
But then, I have this other side, and this November 22nd we'll have the new Lord Mantis and the new Blood Incantation m/m/m/ all aoty contenders...if they manage to dethrone Tool, which is wining the pot for me, on a personal level. |
tectactoe
09.20.19 | Glad you liked 'The Glowing Man' DDD! That's admittedly not the best place to start with Swans, but if you liked that, I think you'll definitely dig 'To Be Kind', 'The Seer', and possibly 'Soundtracks for the Blind.' (When/if you can find the time to listen to them, haha.) |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.20.19 | (When/if you can find the time to listen to them, haha.) That's the big issue here ahah.
TKS all for your aoty recs. 2015 list will soon be up. |
Ray91
09.20.19 | Dude, also check the latest record by johnny booth, especially bury the rose, that song slays so much ! Though more metalcore they are absolutely crushing with some sick instrumental tweaks here and there |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.20.19 | sure! as long you look onto the new Vitriol (USA) (are we raising the stakes here? lol) |
DDDeftoneDDD
09.22.19 | Wopwop Johnny Booth is da shit! |
Titan
09.22.19 | No Fates Warning bro? Its their best album! |
DDDeftoneDDD
10.10.19 | not much into power metal but I may give that one a try m/ |
DDDeftoneDDD
12.26.19 | 2016 never ends...Mizmor's sophomore is really a beauty beast of a piece m/ |
DDDeftoneDDD
01.06.20 | Added 49. TKS Garas...Door 218 is really a fun album...full of riffs and experimental stuff m/ |
Bedex
01.06.20 | DDD give SUMAC - What One Becomes a try, I found it vastly superior to anything else they've put out. If you like your post-metal bleak and massive that is |
DDDeftoneDDD
01.06.20 | Didn't dig much the latest. I'll give that one a try! TKS |
DDDeftoneDDD
01.25.20 | Added a new one! Its from my country this time. Yall should give it a listen if you re into some of the coolest jazz fusion |
Inoculaeted
07.25.20 | List is excellent. What's special about Exoplanet and You Fail Me Redux though? |
DDDeftoneDDD
01.17.21 | They re better than the original ones and/or that s how I got into them XD |
DDDeftoneDDD
01.07.23 | Remembered I dig post pop depression a lot and haven't rate it...here it is added |
