03.06.19 | I'll add the recommendations to this list and will most likely listen in a pretty random order depending on my mood. |
Kompys2000
03.06.19 | IK most of sput doesn't care about R&B but please start with 15 it's so good |
LARGEMINT
03.06.19 | 6, 7, 14 matter and rest is bad, next |
BerryGarlicia
03.06.19 | Please don’t ever listen to 6 |

03.06.19 | Jamming 15 now, here we go. |
budgie
03.06.19 | noice dude. bunch of these i havent jammed as well. 11 is pretty sweet |
madrigal30
03.06.19 | skip 4 and 13 |
Meridiu5
03.06.19 | i'd skip 10 personally. i prefer priests 70's stuff to their 80's stuff. esp sad wings and sin.
you'd probably like pink floyd - meddle & beatles - revolver based on these picks. |
madrigal30
03.06.19 | Revolver is a great idea. Listen to it. |
Scheumke
03.06.19 | added. The picks so far were just from the top of my head though, they are by no means an indication of what I might like or not. I'm open to any classic record. |
madrigal30
03.06.19 | Hmm. I assume by absence on this list you've listened to In Utero (and not just the hits, but the whole album)? |
madrigal30
03.06.19 | Also, Choking Victim's No Gods/No Managers is pretty awesome. |
Scheumke
03.06.19 | Never even heard of Choking Victim, added it. I'm not big on Nirvana (anymore) used to listen to In Utero and Nevermind a lot in my teens, but can't really find enjoyment out of them anymore so I don't bother rating it. |
onionbubs
03.06.19 | 6 7 14 matter and rest is bad [2] |
madrigal30
03.06.19 | Cool. I would have rec'd it if you hadn't :) but uhhhh... I think if you want classic Scandinavian black metal, you can't go wrong with Bathory's selftitled or Woman of Dark Desires |
Scheumke
03.06.19 | I haven't listened to most classic BM albums tbh, only the more modern, melodic bm. I think I could probably make a list of only BM classics to listen to lol. Which Bathory album should I put on here? It appears to be a tossup between s/t, 'Under the Sign of the Black Mark' and 'Blood Fire Death'. |
madrigal30
03.06.19 | S/T is my favorite |
onionbubs
03.06.19 | also idk what constitutes as a classic to you so idrk what the shit to rec, but based on your vague definition: glassjaw |
madrigal30
03.06.19 | Glassjaw is awesome and listen to them. |
MrHarrison
03.06.19 | Can - Tago Mago. |

Scheumke
03.07.19 | Added all the rec. Thanks guys, list is getting nice and stacked. Keep it up if you guys have any more. I'll try to do at least two each workday (I usually don't have the time on the weekends). |
Evreaia
03.07.19 | Never heard Jane Doe or Still Life? You really should if you like the genre. |
Scheumke
03.07.19 | I get that the term 'classic' might be a bit vague. For me a classic is something that, over a period of time, has proven itself to be the blueprint of it's kind because of its quality or innovation. It's the records that other artists try to copy, that defined their genre and that everyone still looks to as one of the most important records of its respected genre. |
Scheumke
03.07.19 | @Evreaia: I've heard almost everything by Opeth (they're one of my all time favorites) but Still Life remains as one of the only ones I never got around to. As for Jane Doe, I've dipped my toe in once or twice but never found to be in the right kind of mood to give it the attention it deserves. I think that is a record that you really need to take your time for, because it's not what I consider 'easy listening'. |
Scheumke
03.07.19 | Did Bathory, AC/DC and Queen today. Might do one more before the day is done. |
madrigal30
03.07.19 | AC/DC imo is one of the most overrated bands around... but they're fun. Queen is fantastic, and you'll love Kyuss I think |
Uzumaki
03.07.19 | Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick
David Bowie - Diamond Dogs and Low
Boston - Boston
King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King and In The Wake Of Poseidon
The Who - Who’s Next
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Patti Smith - Horses
Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
A couple more off the top of my head. Enjoy!!! |
Scheumke
03.08.19 | I have Rumours and SEBTP rated ;) both two of my favorite classic records. Will add the others, thanks for the rec's! |
naughtcturnal
03.08.19 | please jam 3 |
manosg
03.08.19 | Glad to see you enjoying 42, my man. Feel free to check Queen II as well, which is even better imo.
May I add a few more?
The Gathering - Mandylion
Theatre Of Tragedy - Velvet Darkness They Fear
Savatage - Gutter Ballet
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth (I am almost sure you've checked this one but it's not in your ratings so I thought to include it)
Motorhead - Overkil |
Scheumke
03.08.19 | I'll put Queen 2 on my other to listen list. For now I try to keep this list 1 album per band : ). Added the others. I've listened to Machine Head and Nightfall in Middle-Earth, but both have been so long ago that I'll put in on here anyway. Thanks mangosg! |
Scheumke
03.08.19 | Would Diamond Dogs and Low be the best starting point for Bowie? Not something like Ziggy Stardust, Hunky Dory or Aladdin Sane? |
Uzumaki
03.08.19 | It would be a toss up between Diamond Dogs and Ziggy as a starting point; Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane would be more like the “deep cut” type of album you’d listen to if you liked what you heard from either of the previous two. “Low” I rec’d because that’s my favorite Bowie album and it’s the start of his “Berlin Phase”, where he worked with Brian Eno on 3 albums; stylistically different than his previous material. |
Scheumke
03.08.19 | alright, will keep it on Diamond Dogs* then, thanks for elaborating |
zeitgeistaddendum2
03.08.19 | I'm not sure what genres you're looking for but here are some of my recs, or at least ones that I consider to be classics:
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
blink-182 - Enema of the State
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory
Dire Straits - Dire Straits
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
|
Scheumke
03.08.19 | Looking for any genre basically. Will add the first three, since I already have a Dire Straits record on this list and have Rumours ranked : ). Thanks dude! |
zeitgeistaddendum2
03.08.19 | np dude! enjoy listening |
Scheumke
03.08.19 | Did Robert Wyatt and Radio Head for today. If I find time this weekend than Agalloch is next. Listening to this by randomly generating numbers btw xD. |
Hawks
03.08.19 | State Faults - Desolate Peaks
Warning - Watching from a Distance

HypedMerchant
03.08.19 | Oh and you said punk,
Check out Wingnut Dishwashers Union - Burn the Earth, Leave it Behind
Rancid - And out come the wolves |
madrigal30
03.08.19 | Three Imaginary Boys by the Cure is certainly post-punk, clearly influencing both emo and goth music for years to come and certainly a classic |
Josh D.
03.08.19 | You're gonna need to add Mr. Bungle's California |
Rowhaus
03.08.19 | Gospel - The Moon is a Dead World |
Josh D.
03.08.19 | I was just abotu to add that...
I don't know how you're going to listen to all this, but I might as well give you:
Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners (jazz)
Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline (ambient)
The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium (Frances the Mute is neck and neck for me)
|
madrigal30
03.08.19 | Thelonious Monk is fantastic. |
Scheumke
03.08.19 | Will add them after the weekend! I'll keep adding until I cant anymore (101 is max i think). Very much appreciate you guys taking the time and educating me haha. Will take some time to get through but i'll listen to them all. |
Uzumaki
03.08.19 | Danzig - Danzig
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
The Clash - London Calling |
Viriathus
03.09.19 | imo Danzig III is the top album. Its their most diverse of the first three |
Uzumaki
03.09.19 | I discovered the first album last year, and I haven’t set aside time enough to listen to the others. I will soon, though. |
widowslaugh123
03.09.19 | Can I also add Sly and The Family Stone- There’s a riot going on
? |
ReiniEden
03.09.19 | I'd switch 49 for their album How to Measure a Planet? |
Viriathus
03.09.19 | You should def listen to II as its Danzig doing what they did on I but III is where their songwritting shines the most |
SlothcoreSam
03.09.19 | Yep London Calling was a game changer!
Another classic that started a massive genre of modern music, the poppy boy band.
New Kids On The Block- Hangin Tough |
J() Alexander
03.09.19 | Jam 13 and 3. |
Ocean of Noise
03.09.19 | At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command

empire! empire! (I was a lonely estate) - what it takes to move forward
the promise ring - nothing feels good
athletics - who you are is not enough
trespassers william - different stars |
Scheumke
03.10.19 | @wham49. A lot of these bands I've heard and know, some quite extensively, but when it comes to the classics I hardly listened to albums in full. So dont see this as: He's never listened to black sabbath, but: I've never listened to Paranoid front to back. I actually know 75% of the songs on it. |
wham49
03.11.19 | Understand
But most of these were meant to be listened to in full |
Dedes
03.11.19 | I'm not sure whether this counts as a melodic death metal classic but jam Above the Weeping World by Insomnium |
Scheumke
03.11.19 | Added all those beautiful rec's : ). Listened to Agalloch over the weekend. Fate has decided for today: King Crimson, Patti Smith and Artic Monkeys (last one if I find time to do three). |
Scheumke
03.11.19 | Does anyone have a legal way to stream In the Court of the Crimson King? It's not on Spotify or Youtube. Have been listening to the things I can find from it but I'm missing parts. |
Deathconscious
03.11.19 | How is 27 a classic? Its only 3 years old, for one. |
madrigal30
03.11.19 | dude, just pirate it at that point. but i use apple music and idk |
JS19
03.11.19 | 'the British youth dialect' |
Scheumke
03.11.19 | Didn't know what else to call it lol. Finished the 3. A week in and I'm already glad I started this. I'm sure there's a lot more amazing music here. |
JS19
03.11.19 | He's just got a dodgy Sheffield accent it has absolutely nothing to do with youth |
Scheumke
03.11.19 | Thanks for clearing that up, will change it to make it a little less of a generalization. |
Pheromone
03.11.19 | I fucking do not like night at the opera |
Pheromone
03.11.19 | I can't really gel with the dialect either though, making this harder for me to really enjoy. lol |
madrigal30
03.11.19 | Why/how could you not enjoy night at the opera? genuinely curious not trying to attack your taste |
wham49
03.11.19 | queen can be too over the top for some people, me being one of them |
madrigal30
03.11.19 | ehh, that's fair |
Uzumaki
03.11.19 | Oh sorry, man! I meant the first Danzig album, not the second. My bad! |
Uzumaki
03.11.19 | Glad you liked King Crimson and Patti Smith; KC was one of the first “true” prog bands back in the day and really helped define the parameters of what prog would become.
Patti Smith’s “Horses” album was/is proto-punk, and I thought it was an exceptional album from front to back. |
Scheumke
03.12.19 | @Uzumaki changed it : ) was my bad not yours.
For today we have: Funkadelic, Choking Victim and Coroner (again, if I have time enough to do three). |
madrigal30
03.12.19 | ayy! have fun with that one |
Pheromone
03.12.19 | Yeah Queen doesn't interest me @ all |
madrigal30
03.12.19 | to each their own. Always been a sucker for big theatrics |
StrikeOfTheBeast
03.12.19 | Did you check the vinyl rip of Bathory's s/t or the remaster? The vinyl sounds far better |
Scheumke
03.12.19 | I listened on Spotify. I'm guessing that's the remaster. |
madrigal30
03.12.19 | Yeah, most likely. I agree about the vinyl rip |
StrikeOfTheBeast
03.12.19 | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nASsupyduhg |
Scheumke
03.13.19 | Thanks for the link, I might give it another try if I find it more to my taste after a song or two.
Listened to Emperor last night. Today fate has decided to do Coroner, Ra and Cyndi Lauper. |
Scheumke
03.14.19 | I don't think I'll be able to do more then two today, and they are: Talking Heads and Kendrick Lamar. If I find time, then Bauhaus after that. |
widowslaugh123
03.14.19 | Do Bauhaus |
Scheumke
03.14.19 | Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City was the first real eye-opener from this list. I'm a bit too involved in that atm to give another one the attention it deserves, so I'll do Bauhaus tomorrow. |
Zig
03.14.19 | John Coltrane - A Love Supreme |
Scheumke
03.18.19 | Today I'll do: Judas Priest, Stars of the Lid and Blind Guardian (I really want to do three today, cus I don't know how much time I have this week). |
neekafat
03.18.19 | Chicago - Chicago Transit Authority
Peter Gabriel - So
Dixie Chicks - Home |
Scheumke
03.18.19 | Wait, I didn't rate Peter Gabriel yet? Woops. I know 'So' inside out and love it. Seen Peter Gabriel live a couple of years back where he played So integral, which was amazing! Will add the others! |
