Yeah so uhhh…. This is my favorite hip hop album. It miracuously remains engaging for its whole borderline 80 minute run time and it also happens to be Eminem’s most consistent album. It lacks a bit in terms of features but that only adds to the album’s theme of examining the Eminem character. A lot of his best production, rhymes, and songs appear on here and what really sets this apart from both his discography and a lot of other hip hop albums is a strong sense of songwriting. The hooks throughout the album really stick and hold up well with the rapping, the beats are distinctly hip hop while towing the line with pop and Em’s clear affection for rock n roll. His rapping and flow is versatile and delivers dense rhyming schemes effortlessly and never before or since has his vocal stacking been used so effectively. His singing here is pretty decent too and seemed much less like a novelty compared to records since this. |

Not gonna lie, this only properly clicked with me when I listened to this high for the first time. The production is incredible, the synths sound gorgeous, and Shine on You Crazy Diamond is a fucking cosmic funeral and eulogy. Everything about the album just comes together perfectly and what really sets this apart from their other albums is the sheer emotion and passion that the band put into it. |

This album is the antithesis of what a good album (let alone a good double album) should be. The tracklist is bloated with the band’s very best, most mediocre, and arguably worst songs along with the band’s poppiest, heaviest, and most quiet songs and are arranged in a way that is so haphazard… Yet it somehow works. The only song I’d pick for filler is Wild Honey Pie and even then the song has a place… I don’t know why but it just does. Taking any song out, really, is missing the point of the album’s character. It’s the sound of the band falling apart and it’s wonderful. |

The band’s heaviest and most atmospheric album. The guitar tone on here and Chino’s vocal performance remains unmatched in the band’s whole discography. The songs are just hypnotizing in how drugged out and repetitive they are. A shame this isn’t viewed more as one of the band’s best because it fucking is. |

Holy hell that simultaneously feels like such a long time ago and like it was all yesterday. I feel like that also says something about how I enjoy this album but idk what. |

I don’t remember how I encountered this album other than the fact that I discovered it thru this godforsaken website during my early years on here. Actually, I discovered this roughly the same time as In the Aeroplane Over the Sea because I discovered both of them with the tab where you could find lists that the album appears on. Something like that I don’t fucking know. But I do know that this is a fucking powerful album. Laura’s vocals are raw and passionate, the lyrics are fantastic, and the music just kicks ass. 8 Full Hours of Sleep never fails to bring the feels. |

I’m basing my opinion on the 30th anniversary remaster/remix and the sound is meaty, the tracklist is impeccable, and honestly I revisit the performances of a lot of these songs much more than the originals. Especially Moonage Daydream, holy shit. |

Thanks to Onionbubs and Griff I incidentally got into this album when my alcohol addiction was starting to run my life (aka during my first finals week as a college freshman). Bleeder and I Lied My Face Off especially hurt to listen to now and it’s a great feeling. |

Speaking of my struggles with drug abuse, I encountered this album at a very dark time in my life. There’s a couple months during my second semester as a college freshman that are a giant blank in my memory for me due to my struggle with drug abuse (there was more than alcohol at this point now). This album is fucking relentless yet versatile enough to keep itself engaging for its hour long runtime. It’s a rave straight out of hell, really. The fondest memory I’ve got of this was a long bus ride with a friend to and from McDonalds and arriving back on campus to accompany some other friends who were playing Doki Doki Literature Club. |

At the height of my addictions I exclusively listened to Ophidian’s Blackbox, Daft Punk, Pulp, and Placebo. I only remember this because these were my most played artists/albums when I started using Last.fm again because of Discord. Of all of Placebo’s albums, this one has stuck with me the most both cos it was always there for me and also because I think this is the band’s most consistent and concise album. Nothing in the band’s discography touches the run of songs that is Meds, Infra-Red, Drag, Space Monkey, and Follow the Cops Back Home. |

Don’t remember what I rated The Satanist at the time but I had the Mayhem and Darktrhone albums rated a 1/5. I was this much of a metal noob at this time. Tl;dr a YouTube comment on Fantano’s Blurryface review was what made me listen to this album and I never looked back. |

State of Dreaming remains my favorite Marina song and was what got me into her (thanks YouTube recommended videos algorithms). |

It’s Depeche Mode at their darkest and most morbid (tho it unfortunately doesn’t reach Blasphemous Rumours level dark and morbid) and it’s also the band’s crowning achievement. |

Hearing this lyric as an alcoholic hit me like a ton of bricks. Indeed, a horror soundtrack from a stagnant water bed. Given the limitations of these description boxes and to spare all of you the sob story, this was probably the most important album for me during this really hard time. To this day tho, the title track remains my all time favorite song.

This and number 3 on this list were what I listened to on that car ride back… Wasn’t till last month that I was able to really listen to this album again and… my soundoff says all I could say for how much I adore this album. Metal Guru, Mystic Lady, and Ballrooms of Mars never fail to make me feel emotional. The album now soundtracks to a much more joyful time in my college career, more specifically a car ride out of LA from a Model UN conference with some fellow delegates that I’ve become really good friends with. |

Wow I’ve really noticed a pattern here with the albums I chose for this list. Albums that have either stuck with me during my early teens or were there for me during the lowest points of last school year.
This album was there for me during the time when I tried to kick my alcohol and drug addiction last semester. Actually, it came at the time when I had no choice but to kick it because I became too broke to even afford supporting it. There was something about it that was just life affirming it to me, the bright and dancy beats, the immaculate production, the unrelenting quality. Not a single bad thing I could say about the album or anything that could have been better about it. The last song brought me to tears the first time I heard it. It helped me keep my head up a little bit as it did on that car ride back home. And indeed, things have gotten much better. |
