06.21.18 | Just saw Hereditary, great stuff. How is The Witch (2015)? Videodromeeee |
calmrose
06.21.18 | The Witch is excellent, especially if you're into slow-burner horror films |
Astral Abortis
06.21.18 | I expect you to expand that collection to 82 films by this time next year |
Sharkattack
06.21.18 | Cool |
calmrose
06.21.18 | just watched Dawn of the Dead and Invasion of the Body Snatchers last week, both awesome
also watched the Netflix horror film, Veronica, recently, and despite some hype that it's the "scariest movie ever" (it's not), it's still an excellent film, definitely recommend it |
Rowan5215
06.21.18 | good list tbh
Coherence, Resolution, As Above so Below, They Look Like People are recent essentials
edit: oh and Pontypool |
calmrose
06.21.18 | Resolution, nice |
artiswar
06.21.18 | Good list. I recommend The Loved Ones, Frontier(s), Sleep Tight, and May. |
DarkSideOfLucca
06.21.18 | Oh I have The Loved Ones too, I must have missed that. May was cool, Frontiers rules and I have not seen Sleep Tight.
Also thanks, Rowan
Also I need to see Veronica still
Also The With and Hereditary are my two favorite horror movies of the past two decades tbh |

06.21.18 | "Coherence, Resolution, As Above so Below, They Look Like People are recent essentials"
good recs, i'll add
banshee chapter, the borderlands, lake mungo, the blackcoats daughter, cheap thrills, honeymoon, murder party, what we become, the tunnel, witching & bitching, black mountainside |
Rowan5215
06.21.18 | ^ Banshee Chapter and Lake Mungo genuinely made me lose sleep yeah. good shouts |
artiswar
06.21.18 | Sleep Tight is fUUUUUUUcking creepy. Not sure how much to give away but it's really good. Also Livid, and Eden Lake (Fassbender is in that and my god it's a brutal movie) |
artiswar
06.21.18 | I second Coherence, that's definitely worth a look. |
artiswar
06.21.18 | The Witch was so good. The peek-a-boo scene is still one of the most chilling horror moments ever for me. I was expecting something fucked up to happen but not that. |
Hendoi
06.21.18 | Cool list. You got a favourite? Mine is either the shining or the thing. |
budgie
06.21.18 | yeah man it's so nice when exhaustive attention is given to historicity, even when it will turn a lot of people away from the film |
Divaman
06.21.18 | Nice choices. Way to stick with the classics. |
neekafat
06.21.18 | Hereditary's overrated but good |
Rice303
06.21.18 | Should check out The Wailing and Kill List, list is pretty solid |
DarkSideOfLucca
06.21.18 | @Hendoi - Oof, that's an impossible question my man. Evil Dead 1 and 2 have a special place in my heart because they were the first "fucked up" movies I've ever seen in my life back when I was in middle school (a time before DVDs) so probably them because of what they mean to me on a personal level.
The Witch and Hereditary are my favorite movies of the past couple decades, though. Definitely do not find them to be overrated at all.
@Rice- Saw both of them man - The Wailing is great, but incredibly long so I don't know how many nights I'm going to throw that one on with some beers aha
Kill List was brutal af
Also I don't own Audition but that movie rules too |
cold
06.21.18 | Does A Serbian Film count as horror? What about 120 Days Of Sodom? Begotten? |
DinosaurJones
06.21.18 | Hereditary was like so hit and miss with me.
The main actress fucking nailed it, and there were some unsettling moments. The character death about 30 minutes in was a shock, but at the same time, I thought that was the most intriguing character, so the loss of them kind of killed my enthusiasm a bit.
And yeah, I'm in the camp of the ending did nothing for me. |
cold
06.21.18 | Y'all ever seen those gnarly, campy-as-fuck Troma movies from the 80's?
CLASSICS. |
Sabrutin
06.21.18 | In The Mouth of Madness, sweet. Check out Event Horizon if you want to see more of Sam Neill going nuts |
DarkSideOfLucca
06.22.18 | I only wish we got the intended version of Event Horizon which sounded so much scarier :/
Check out Possession if you dig Sam Noel, Sabrutin |
DarkSideOfLucca
06.22.18 | And Dinosaur - sorry you felt that way man - I know some people had some problems with the ending but I thought the last 15-20 minutes were terrifying and it really worked for me
I also didn’t have an intense connection to said person in the beginning and I found everything that happened after far more terrifying |
combustion07
06.22.18 | Hereditary was the shit. Was a good choice for my first date in a year or so lol. Loved the ending and how it ties into the keys of solomon |
Sabrutin
06.24.18 | Sweet I'll look into Possession, thanks |
JeetJeet
06.24.18 | Suspiria worth checking out? |
Spluger
06.24.18 | Inside... oh man, what a fucked up movie. Have you seen the remake? |
Rowan5215
06.24.18 | @Jeet it's one of the greatest of all time |
Egarran
06.24.18 | Nice list (and albums), although I would have liked you to rate or or comment on the titles.
Some more that should be here:
Silence Of The Lambs
Dagon
Planet Terror
The Cabin In The Woods
Buried
Get Out
Coherence
And obviously The Haunting from 1963. |
budgie
06.24.18 | surprised you didnt recommend annihilation |
Astral Abortis
06.24.18 | Annihilation was a little disappointing for me, but I still think it's a good film overall.
The book shits all over it tho. |
Egarran
06.24.18 | Let's say it was a good companion to the book. I was really looking forward to the the whole Crawler thing, though. Also ANNIHILATION was a pretty important hypno-trigger word. They had to cook up some kind of lame explanation.
But I think it succeeded well at describing a dimensional cancer.
A PRECIOUS MINGLING OF THE FLESH AND ALIEN FIRE
Did you read the rest of the trilogy? I couldn't, the second bored me to death. |
Astral Abortis
06.24.18 | "They had to cook up some kind of lame explanation."
I don't know why they couldn't have used the same explanation that the book used. I mean the trigger word was a really cool concept. |
Astral Abortis
06.24.18 | Haven't read the other two books yet because I started reading another book after i finished Annihilation and wanted to wait until I finished it before buying the others. So now I'm gonna start the second book whenever I finish the current book I'm on |
Egarran
06.24.18 | "Fire In The Sky"
Quality. Some of the scenes in this movie, yikes. |
budgie
06.24.18 | i thought annihilation was meh at best
pls dont hurt me egarran |
osmark86
06.24.18 | House from 1977 is a fun, trippy horror flick if you haven't seen it yet |
Egarran
06.24.18 | No worries, only intellectuals can properly appreciate Annihilation.
Also I was high af. |
bentheREDfan
06.24.18 | It Follows is a freaking beast, and The Witch is just something else man. List could use some Saw though. |
Egarran
06.24.18 | I recommend Split for more Anya Taylor-Joy. |
