2015
1Symphony X
Underworld

What a fantastic album - my favorite of theirs. Absolutely everything works here. Heartful melodies and headbanger riffs mix here in a perfect blend, and each one of the players just gives their absolute everything. The result is one of the best albums in my humble opinion, one which never fails to blow me away completely everytime.
2Gloryhammer
Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards

This album is a Power Metal masterpiece - which is somewhat ironic, since it's also somewhat of a parody on the genre (lyrically, at least). Every song is more epic, anthemic and powerful than the one that came before it. No matter how many times I listen to it, it's still as powerful as the first time. Spectacular album.
3Elder (USA-MA)
Lore

This album is incredible. Every song feels like a journey, and even though they're only 10-15 minutes long, by the end of each one I honestly feel like a monumental part of my life ends with it - I know it sounds cheesy, but it's just that compelling and powerful. This is one of the very few albums I would actually agree to call a "modern classic".
4Iron Maiden
The Book of Souls

This is Iron Maiden we're talking about - of course it's incredible. This album definitely shines in its longer, more epic and progressive pieces, but the shorter, more classic ones are also great. It has a special atmosphere to it, I like it a lot.
5Enshine
Singularity

Fantastic blend of melodic death metal aggressions and post-rock atmospheric, melancholic bliss. It's a sad, thought-provoking journey into the never-ending nothingness of outer space - an emotional, electrifying experience not many albums can provide.
6Amorphis
Under the Red Cloud

Another excellent album by Amorphis, who prove, time and time again, just how incredibly talented they are. It's another "pop-metal" album that just hits all of the right spots every time, and while it might not be as incredible as Circle was, it's an incredibly solid album on its own, definitely deserving a top somewhere on the top of this (super competitive) year.
7Parkway Drive
Ire
8Intervals
The Shape of Colour

Not much to say about any of these album. Enjoyable, but not my style unfortunately. "Meridian" is actually pretty amazing though, one of my favorite songs out there.
9Slayer
Repentless

Another modern Slayer album. Pretty good I guess, but not that memorable. Still, a respectable album considering Hanneman wasn't there to contribute to its writing.
10 Powerwolf
Blessed & Possessed

A typical Powerwolf album - and like always, it's really great.
11Lamb of God
VII: Sturm und Drang

They sound... lost. They know what to do, but when they do it, it just doesn't work.
This is not their best album, it sounds like they're unsure of the way they want the band to grow and want to try some new stuff, but here it's still not fully realized and it sounds... incomplete. I think growth is very important for a band, but here it just feels like they're walking helplessly in the dark try to find something to hold.
I feel like I've been to harsh on the band, it's still not a bad album, but man, I'm really curious to hear their next album someday.

[UPDATE]
Make no mistake, this is definitely a good album - I'd even consider it to be one of the best this year (maybe a bit farther down the list, but still definitely on the list). Maybe I've been a little too harsh. But the core of my initial review is still true in my opinion. There's a lot of filler here and it's not super memorable, but in the end of the day, it is still a Lamb of God album and not a bad one at that.
12Cain & Abel 90210
Videodrome

Goofy and fun. Very good album - it gets better the more you hear it.
13Khemmis
Absolution

Absolutely magnificent album - and especially impressive for being their debut. From production to composition, nothing about this album suggests the band was only founded 3 years prior. It's a phenomenal achievement, topped only by the fact that the next albums are even better.
14Saxon
Battering Ram

Absolutely fantastic modern traditional heavy metal album, really phenomenal stuff. Every song is a banger - loved it.
