2012 |
1 | | Rush Clockwork Angels
A great album and a very respectable farewell by the legendary trio. Not all songs here are perfect, and (like many of Rush's studio albums) production / sound mixing could definitely be better, but it's still a solid concept album with some great songs. The second half is overall better that the first.
There's a great balance of hard-rockers, emotinal ballads and hall-of-fame hits. Everyone will find at least one songs to love here. Great stuff.
Thank you Rush, for everything. Your music meant a lot to me. |
2 | | Galneryus Angel of Salvation |
3 | | Sabaton Carolus Rex
This is a great concept album. Musically it's the same Sabaton we know and love, but the story-driven nature of the album makes it a unique experience. Also the two languages concept is cool, though I personally prefer it in english (I like to sing along!). |
4 | | The Sword Apocryphon
It's quite similar to their pervious album, which for me is a very good thing. A good time overall. |
5 | | Ancestors In Dreams And Time
An interesting mix of progressive, doom and stoner metal, and the result is pretty weird. I'm gonna have to revisit this one a few more times before I can say anything. |
6 | | Aeternam Moongod
A phenomenal mix of oriental and melodic death metal. Almost everything here clicks. Great stuff. |
7 | | Slash Apocalyptic Love
Thankfully, after a very messy first album featuring many guest singers, he chose to stick with Myles Kennedy which proved to be an excellent choice - the two have amazing chemistry and really do bring the best out of each others.
This album is not perfect and only a few songs are memorable, but it sounds great and is definitely a step in the right direction. |
8 | | Accept Stalingrad
Sounds pretty much the same as the previous album. Solid album. |
9 | | Parkway Drive Atlas
This album is great. It's violent and brutal and melodic and emotional. Really liked this one a lot. |
10 | | Testament Dark Roots of Earth
A prime example of a classic thrash band keeping up with the times. This is an excellent album by a band refusing to forfeit to irrelevancy. I love the modern Testament style, great fucking job there guys. |
11 | | Kreator Phantom Antichrist
Another superb album by Kreator. It's so great to hear a titan from the past successfully adjust moving into the modern era, find their place and continue to make music as great as it was in the olden days. There's not much new here and there's not much reason to do so anyway - Kreator are great and as far as I'm concerned, they're doing amazing just doing their own thing. Excellent stuff! |
12 | | In Mourning The Weight of Oceans
I think I may need to give it a few more tries, but it definitely is a good progressive death metal album. Good balance of heaviness and melodic depth. I like what I hear, that's for sure. |
13 | | Lamb of God Resolution |
14 | | Neal Morse Momentum |
