round 2 yall
1Sweet Trip
You Will Never Know Why

INDIE ROCK or INDIE POP

no song over like 8 minutes plz

Handicaps:
Ovrot - .1

*NOTICE - i apparently had to kill of 5 ppl last round but only did 4 so 3 ppl are dying this round to get things on track sorry dudes :(*
2Panda Riot
Infinity Maps

Aberf

"Otherside"

A modern 2017 gazey indie pop track to start things off. I very much like the vocals and overall sound of the song but it may have been a little safe in my opinion. Still, really exquisit stuff.

Chortles

"Shaking Hand"

“Shaking Hand” starts as some entertaining standard affair indie rock but picks up some steam at the halfway point. The remaining half is an engaging, almost beachy instrumental outro. The song feels fidgety yet strangely controlled.

Ten Stories

dbizzles

"Nine Stories"

At first i was slightly indifferent to this song, mainly cause the vocals werent my thing, but the change up at the 2:50 mark was were i had a preference 180. The incorporation of trumpets and the overall intensity build at the end of the track was the best part. Sounds like a grower to me.

5Snowmine
Laminate Pet Animal

Sniff

"Let Me In"

Sniff recs sowingcore and the end result is pretty solid. “Let Me In” makes use of some great subtle orchestral stylings and falsetto vocals but ultimately didn't grip me as emotionally as other tracks here. Still, solid though man, solid.

6Duster
Stratosphere

hansoloshotfirst

"Reed to Hillsborough"

A slowcore jam through and through. “Reed to Hillsborough” is gentle and subtle in execution and hit hard emotionally. There isnt too much going on from a technical standpoint but that’s not really the goal here. Soft vocals and restrained guitars make for a track that just feels *right.*

Hunger and Thirst

bgillesp

"The Claws Pt II"

This song started pretty strong as i really was enamoured by the vocals right away. From there though I felt it didn't quite build as much as it could have. The song is relaxing, enjoyable and better on repeated listens.

3.4
8Pavement
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain

Sharkattack

"Range Life"

This song had a very cool general vibe to it but i don’t know if the vocals hit me as hard as they could have. The song has some really nice sections (especially in its last few moments) but they were usually a little too short lived.

"Big Dipper"

Twinley and energetic, “Big Dipper” was one of the better tracks i’ve heard so far. The charismatic vocal performance really complimented all the other elements of the track. What i think i liked most about this was that there was always something new happening but it didn’t sound messy.

My Woman

Frivolous

"Shut Up Kiss Me"

Oh hey i remember this album being a big deal on sput a while back but never checked. Well, this song definitely got me intrigued as its a plain fun time. A nice marriage of a rocky chorus with poppy verses that coalesce into one nice track.

3.5
11Woven In Hiatus
Anatomical Heart

SteakByrnes

"Honest"

I think the best way i can describe “Honest” is that it has that “that one softer song on a metalcore album that’s there to change things up a little” kinda sound, but done pretty well. Song steps up a lot during the ending.

PapaUniverse

"We Used to Vacation"

This was catchy as heck. That little piano tune snags your brain fast and keeps you bobbing your head to the beat. The song may be catchy and upbeat but deals with a deep theme of alcoholism. Good tune.

3.6
13They Might Be Giants
Lincoln

Bloon

"Ana Ng"

Discord-core that i should have probs jammed a lot earlier than now. They Might be Giants play an ‘80s that sounds 90s’ style indie rock here with charming vox and punchy guitars. The chorus didn’t totally grab me till the end, but that also made it better on second listen.

3.5
14Harvey Danger
King James Version

Archelirion

"Humility on Parade"

Another sweet rec here. This song has a nice build up and keeps getting better as it goes on. The little aggressive bursts from the vocalist also gave this already jammin’ song some life.

3.6
15Los Campesinos!
Hold On Now, Youngster...

Avagantamos

"Death to Los Campesinos!"

This song sounds like one big celebratory indie rock bash. I was a big fan of the male/female vocal dynamic and catchy melody. Probably the most upbeat and exuberant song of the bunch.

3.6
16Gorky's Zygotic Mynci
How I Long to Feel That Summer in My Heart

IcelandRevel

"Cân Megan"

I think what drew me to this song was how simple and effective it is. The song is on the short-avg length side and doesn't attempt to be any bigger than it is but kept me under its brassy groove the whole time. The actual sound of the song itself is reminiscent of the 70s psychy pop rock movement. Is this what posi feels like? Maybe.

3.8
17The Durutti Column
LC

Frippertronics

"Jacqueline"

Frip goes against the norm and recs the only instrumental of the whole bunch. This song was very feel-good and felt like a sunny paradise. It was a little short so it didn’t have too much time to go anywhere big but this nice little track was certainly a pleasant time.

3.5
18Julien Baker
Turn Out The Lights

granitenotebook

"Televangelist"

DID SOMEONE SAY SADJAMSTIME--I, I mean Julien Baker? Considering this be the third time i've been rec’d this artist for these rec comps, i think sputs trying to tell me something. Getting to the track itself, there's a great vocal performance that floats over slow but effective piano keys. This culminates to a song that is quite gorgeous but also melancholic. Big softies bewareee

Fever Dreams

CaimanJesus

"Virgin"

Caiman rec’ing out that tacoscore hard right now. This track was a lovely time. From the light as air and whispery femal vox to the beautiful atmospherics and piano, this track grabbed me from the very beginning. Thanks Caiman, i really dig this.

20Archers of Loaf
White Trash Heroes

butcherboy

"Web in Front"

The shortest song recd but it’s a goodie. This indie rock/alternative jam was a nice change of pace. Fans of that fun 90s alt rock sound would probably like this a lot. The kind of song to be played in your friend’s car in the 90s with the windows down.

3.7
21Mew
Frengers

FullOfSounds

"Am I Wry? No"

This track crept up on me. “Am I Wry? No” is arguably the most upbeat and fastest paced track recd, so ending all the slow jams off with some faster ones was a good change of pace. The song is theatrical and adventurous. The “Diamond Ring” segment was a great way to end the track and had me singing along.

3.8

"I Don’t"

This song was really quite beautiful and tender. It was atmospheric and that small post rock influence at the end were a nice touch. Touching and simple, i liked it.

Banking, Violence and the Inner Life Today

Ovrot

"Write to your MP Today"

This song feels like a bike ride down the boardwalk to me. Its happy sounding and entertaining. I don’t have too much to say about it other than i enjoyed it and that it’s late and want to get these blurbs done and i love you ov :3
