| My favourite 15 alternative albums released in 1993
While many sees 1994 as the peak year of alternative music, as many classics such as NIN's The Downward Spiral and The Cranberries' No Need To Argue were released in that year, the year before also saw the release of many favourite alternative albums as well. Here are my favourite alternative albums that are turning/already turned 25 this year. | 1 | | Slowdive Souvlaki
Shoegaze at its most harrowing, most beautiful, heavenly and one of its best, the best shoegazing album second only to Loveless. | 2 | | PJ Harvey Rid of Me
Ferocious indie rock that will never get rid of in your head once you listen to it. | 3 | | Liz Phair Exile In Guyville
Sex, breakup, toxic relationship, rumours, a musical bible about entering into adulthood. | 4 | | The Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream
The chance of making such shoegaze-and-heavy metal-infused classic is less than the chance of appearing a siamese twin. | 5 | | Mazzy Star So Tonight That I Might See
Press play for the album, and you will only fade into this dream pop classic. | 6 | | Nirvana In Utero
The brilliant last words from the grunge icon, it's grunge at its most abrasive and rawest. | 7 | | The Verve A Storm in Heaven
Just like its title suggest, it is a musical storm in heaven, and it's the band's best. | 8 | | Sarah McLachlan Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Alluring yet vulnerable, it is the musical equivalent to a bottle full of ecstasy that comforts you after various distraught. | 9 | | Catherine Wheel Chrome
Just like chrome metalwork, it is smooth, metallic and shiny, and it is one beautiful and brilliant shoegazing art-piece. | 10 | | The Cranberries Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?
No one else can make something so powerful yet vulnerable, joyous yet somber, sweeping musical piece like this. | 11 | | Suede Suede
Cocky, sexy and protesting, a brilliant introduction of the band and Brit-pop to the world. | 12 | | Bjork Debut
Brilliant trip-hop-infused debut album that introduces the ever shape-shifting Icelandic musical queen. | 13 | | New Order Republic
Guitar pop with synth melodies, it's the band's rawer and more brilliant effort. | 14 | | The Breeders Last Splash
Just because Kim Deal is a brilliant bass player, doesn't mean she's not a good guitarist, and Last Splash is the proof. | 15 | | Kate Bush The Red Shoes
Not really her best, but it is definitely one of her most underrated album among her catalog. | |
