Rec me albums from these years (pt. 1) 06/92/86
seeing my ratings from every year, though i have listened to a lot of music from a lot of different years, there are ones i'm draggin on, be it lack of interest or misinformation. Rec me albums from these years, i'll listen to them eventually (maybe). |
1 | | The Format Dog Problems
this one is nice. from 2006 |
2 | | Godflesh Pure
great Godflesh album. from 1992 |
3 | | Cocteau Twins Victorialand
Still their best, imo. from 1986 |
4 | | John Larkin John Larkin
MarsKid
eh... i mean, it's aight... Didn't do much for me honestly and tbh the voice is kinda ugly, i don't like it.
3/5 |
5 | | Owen At Home With Owen
Trebor.
i ain't gonna listen to that for more than 10 minutes, sorry bro
pass/5 |
6 | | Red House Painters Down Colorful Hill
Trebor.
Get this sadboi shit outta my face.
Nah/5 |
7 | | Paul Simon Graceland
Trebor.
This is great. Love the strong african influence in this, but mostly love its atmosphere. Takes me somewhere warm and with sea breeze.
4/5 |
8 | | Scott Walker The Drift
butcherboy
UGH. I mean, i'm all for crazy wacko music, but Scott's voice is just. Ugly. Just can't stand a whole album of this, sorry bro.
Pass/5 |
9 | | Pavement Slanted and Enchanted
butcherboy |
10 | | The The Infected
butcherboy
The first half of this is amazing, but i feel it loses steam by the 2nd half. Last 2 tracks are miles away from the first 2 tracks.
3.5/5 |
11 | | Arthur Russell World of Echo
Twig
There are moments of real beauty here, like a Nick Drake song heard in a dream... Other times, it's a chore to get through. Goes to show how a simple formula can weild both immaculate and underwhelming results at the same time.
3/5 |
12 | | Catherine Wheel Ferment
Twig
Shoegaze is a genre that's hardly done right, imo. Most bands i've heard tend to favor over-saturating their sound with stupid effects and reverbs to mask average/dull song-writing instead of actually trying to build a deep, complex soundscape. It's a genre that lives and dies by its capacity to pull the listener into its trance. This does it, at times better than others. Overall, fun listen.
3.5/5 |
13 | | BT This Binary Universe
Twig |
14 | | Breathless The Glass Bead Game
Sandwich
this is really good! how does this not get more love here?
4/5 |
15 | | Current 93 Thunder Perfect Mind
Sandwich
I mean, this is interesting and all but... I ain't sitting through 78 minutes of this.
I give up/5 |
16 | | Akron/Family Meek Warrior
Sandwich |
17 | | Sun City Girls Grotto of Miracles
Chorts
eh. I didn't hate it and i guess on another day i might have enjoyed this more. Maybe i'll give it a 2nd go in a couple weeks.
3/5 |
18 | | Polvo Cor-Crane Secret
Chorts
meh. not my kind of thing. 2.5/5 |
19 | | Trentemoller The Last Resort
Chorts
it's pleasant enough, but it's not blowing me away or anything... Some of the production here is top notch, but at times it feels like it hasn't aged that well, tbh.
3/5 |
20 | | Depeche Mode Black Celebration
Onions
i love how horny DM always sound lol... they give that sweaty, Sn'M vibe without going full-on creepazoid. Some of the sounds here feel a little outdated, but luckly the solid songwriting manages to shine through most of the times.
3.5/5 |
21 | | The Cure Wish
Onions
I always respected The Cure as a band, they have a distinct sound that goes beyond the basic goth rock aesthetic and also build their best songs with a pop sensibility that's unmatched. Problem is i largely ignored most of their discog, not out of spite, but for a lack of interest. I should listen to more the cure, this is a great album.
3.5/5 |
22 | | The Lawrence Arms Oh! Calcutta!
Onions
Uhmmm... I hate the vox on this really bad. And the songs themelves aren't good enough to compensate.
1.5/5 |
23 | | Ministry Psalm 69
teamster
14 yo me would've gotten his little head blown off by this, but now... Eh, i crave for heavier stuff, and the songwriting and riffing kinda doesn't make up for the the half-baked agression.
Pass/5 |
24 | | Fates Warning Awaken the Guardian
teamster |
25 | | Agalloch Ashes Against the Grain
teamster
Agalloch makes music with a good sense for expectative and timing that makes for amazing, epic moments. Too bad the album peaks too soon. 1st track is easily the best.
3.5/5 |
26 | | Emancipator Soon It Will Be Cold Enough
Sinternet
this threads the needle between 'subtle' and 'anodyne' a little too hard at times... It IS beautiful, but a beauty that needed more contrast, maybe. 'Lionheart' and 'With Rainy Eyes' are both amazing tracks, tho.
3/5 |
27 | | warning Watching from a Distance
Sinternet |
28 | | Squarepusher Hello Everything
Sinternet
this is very all over the place. It's equals part 'ecclectic' as it is 'scattered brained'. I like the playful tone, but overall there's just too much shit that doesn't work and tbh i don't like it.
2/5 |
29 | | Phoenix It's Never Been Like That
granitenotebook
I like this. Phoenix is a good band and this is a good record. Wish i had something more to say other than... It's adequate, it's good, it does the gud.
3/5 |
30 | | Univers Zero Heatwave
gagnonov
nah, this is boring. the circus-like feel of it just turns me off. FUCK CIRCUS MUSIC.
2.5/5 |
31 | | Aspid Extravasation
gagnonov
This one riffs! A little too on the prog spectrum for my taste, but never drags.
Russian is a funny language.
3.5/5 |
32 | | Dolorian Voidwards
gagnonov
solid doom. Nice atmosphere, the black metal and post-rock dashes work wonders to make this a lot more interesting.
3.5/5 |
33 | | Katatonia The Great Cold Distance
Dewin
Never listened to Katatonia before. Now I now why, not my jam at all lol.
Pass/5 |
34 | | Kyuss Blues for the Red Sun
Dewin
woah this rules! bad-ass record
4/5 |
35 | | Iron Maiden Somewhere in Time
Dewin
I expected to hate this but nah, it's just... decent. I get why people like this, but for this kind of rock-metal sound i'd rather it be full-on exuberant, oiled-up viking SM power-fantasy. This is half-way, imo.
2.5/5 |
36 | | The Roots Game Theory
masochist
damn this slaps... Production specially. The Roots are classic, I should check their other stuff, too.
4/5 |
37 | | Sunshine Has Blown Sunshine Has Blown
HugEmoji
U'know what this is pretty fucking engaging for a EAI album... It's never overbearing, nor does it indulge in whacky far-out psychedelia, on the contrary it's quite inviting and quiet, subtle, haunting and kinda beautiful, too!
4/5 |
38 | | Morton Feldman For Philip Guston
HugEmoji
disqualified. This is from 1984, you dingus... I'll still check it, tho cuz it seems interesting.
Sach-core/5 |
39 | | Venom P. Stinger Meet My Friend Venom
HugEmoji
This is pretty good, actually. I like the energy and instrumentation. The noise elements don't work as well, tho and the voice is meh. The cover art is dope, tho. Black, White and Yellow. Simple but bold!
3.5/5 |
40 | | Chainsaw Kittens Flipped Out In Singapore
LeftyMcRighty
Eh, solid enough rock... it got boring mid-way through, but it's got a couple of good tunes.
2.5/5 |
41 | | Bonnie 'Prince' Billy The Letting Go
LeftyMcRighty |
42 | | Manicured Noise Northern Stories 1978/80
PapaUni |
43 | | Manic Street Preachers Generation Terrorists
PapaUni
pros: i like the glam-metal/pop-rock vibe, it's a fun album, but with a nodge of higher quality in song-writing.
cons: Too long, mainly. Also, it kinda takes a while to pick up steam. Motorcycle emptiness feels like it should've been the 1st track.
3.5/5 |
44 | | A Primary Industry Ultramarine
