1 | | X-Ray Spex Germfree Adolescents
Punk Rock, tiny female vocal powerhouse in Polly Styrene. You'll appreciate her lyrics, especially the non-album single, "Oh Bondage, Up Yours." |
2 | | The Everly Brothers Songs Our Daddy Taught Us
Rustic, acoustic traditional Americana. Literally a collection of songs their Daddy taught them. |
3 | | The Slits Cut
Another Punk masterpiece, in my opinion. unlike X-Ray Spex, this band is all women. This album came out in 1979, but the vocalist would be about Elaine's age if she were still alive. |
4 | | Fleet Foxes Fleet Foxes
I know you're going to see these guys, so you'll be checking them out anyway, but yeah. This album is excellent Americana |
5 | | R.E.M. Murmur
This album is really SOOO you. Polite rock and roll that still rocks. Southern Rock, but made by folks that don't feel too comfortable in the south (Michael Stipe is gay, was still in the closet when this album was released). Not unlike Coldplay, really. If you like this album, you'll probably dig any of their albums, and I myself am still pretty new to R.E.M. |
6 | | Kate Bush Hounds of Love
runnin up that hill...
Really excellent album, and I think you'll enjoy it a lot more than me. |
7 | | Blur Parklife
50 minutes of that British Wit and Satire I know you love. One of my favorite Britpop albums. |
8 | | David Bowie Hunky Dory
Don't know how much Bowie you've listened to, but I'm sure its enough that I don't really have to sell you on him. This is the best place to start, kinda like his career thesis statement. |
9 | | Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
This album is absurdly popular with adolescent boys, to the point that its pretty much a meme now. That being said, its very well written, and you'll probably really like it. Ties in with the Diary of Anne Frank. |
10 | | Arcade Fire Funeral
Good album. Life affirming. Just really great. Mary likes it too. |
11 | | The Breeders Last Splash
doodle un dun, doodle oodle un dun, doodle un dun dun, doodle oodle un dun
weewoo weewoo wee-oo wee-oo |
12 | | U2 Boy
Don't know exactly how much U2 you've listened to, but this is one of my favorite albums, by them, their debut, they were still kids. One of my favorite classic post-punk albums. |
