Top 10 albums of 2017

MY top 10, not the objectively best albums you judgemental fucks.
10Mastodon
Emperor of Sand

Haven't been a fan of Mastodon's post Crack The Skye. This was a really nice surprise. A good mix of old and new.
9Pulse
Aberration

As flawed as I find this EP to be, I've listened to these songs countless times and still do. Genuinely fun and interesting blend of Metalcore, Deathcore and Atmospheric Djent.
8Tigran Hamasyan
An Ancient Observer

Not every track on this hits the mark for me. However, when it does, it's something really unique and beautiful.
7While She Sleeps
You Are We

While this lacks a bit of genuine energy sometimes, it still works wonderfully as far catchy Metalcore goes. Some great riffs, killer songwriting, and passionate vocals throughout.
6Mutiny Within
Origins

A straighter-edge, softer version of Scar Symmetry. If that sounds like your thing, you will most likely love this. It's just a shame the drums sound fake as shit and kind of ruin some heavier moments.
5Trivium
The Sin and the Sentence

What a return to form for these guys! The perfect album for them to release at this point. The high points on this aren't as high as they have been in the past, but it's overall their best after Shogun.
4Persefone
Aathma

So many jaw-dropping moments on this thing. It's just a shame it's so all over the place at times.
3Shadow of Intent
Reclaimer

I've never thought a Deathcore album would be this high on a end-of-year list. I was obviously wrong. This is just awesome material all-around.The Prophet's Beckoning is maybe the catchiest song I've heard this year.
2SikTh
The Future in Whose Eyes?

Not everyone loves this new less crazy version of SikTh. I personally wasn't of fan of the old stuff that much so it's a welcome change of pace actually. I like Opacities more because I thought they really nailed the balance on that one. But overall, this is consistently great and still quite unique.
1The Contortionist
Clairvoyant

The definition of beautiful. A few heavier/more energetic sections to contrast the pretty stuff would have made this one of my favorite albums of all time. Just fantastic.
