| mewithoutYou: Ranked
Gotta make this my first list since they're my favorite band. Didn't check if there were any other lists, but oh well, here's mine. | 7 | | mewithoutYou I Never Said That I Was Brave
Now I know that this is just an EP, but damnit, it deserves to be on my list. After I discovered [A>B] Life, I was clamouring for more mewithoutYou. And all that was offered was their first demo "Blood Enough For Us All" (which isn't bad, what you would expect from a shitty demo) and "I Never Said I Was Brave". So all the angsty feels I got from [A>B] Life, I got threefold from this EP. Man, is it madddddddd. If you just heard this EP with no context, you probably wouldn't know it was mewithoutYou, and I love that. Every song is amazing, and when they celebrated the anniversary of the EP, I celebrated too. Much to my chagrin, I expected to hear this EP live, but did not when I saw them on the anniversary tour. One day, I will get my opportunity to crowd kill to "Dying Is Strange And Hard". Until then, I'll just rage out in my car when I jam this beast of an EP.

I Never Said That I Was Brave | 6 | | mewithoutYou Ten Stories
Okay, don't get me wrong, I love this album. But, it's low on this list because it just didn't impress me all that much. I remember the first track they released for it was "February, 1878", and I was stoked because that song really harkened back to the Brother, Sister days. So when I got the album and gave it a complete listen, I was left feeling shortchanged. I feel like they put more thought into the concept of the album, rather than the actual songs. I do love the concept, but I just felt it wasn't executed well. This one was more of a shower, since after a while only a handful of songs really stand out. It's companion EP "Other Stories", while only two songs, is a great addition. These songs really could've afforded to be on the album if it weren't a concept album. With that being said, "Four Fires" fucking slaps.
KEY TRACKS:
Foxes Dream Of The Log Flume
Nine Stories
Bear's Vision Of St. Agnes
(Four Fires) | 5 | | mewithoutYou It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All A Dream! It's Alright!
To be honest, I HATED this album when it came out. Coming off the epic Brother, Sister, I wasn't expecting to hear an album like this. I remember referring to it as "some kumbaya, campfire bullshit". This album was the utter definition of "it's a grower, not a shower". It slowly started to become one of my favorite mewithoutYou albums (at the time). From what I gather, Aaron left everything to live on a commune and wrote all of these songs with just an acoustic guitar. So I guess I wasn't too far off when i said it was some kumbaya, campfire bullshit.
KEY TRACKS:
Bullet To Binary (Pt. 2)
Timothy Hay
Cattail Down | 4 | | mewithoutYou Pale Horses
I was a little worried when this album came out because I wasn't all that impressed with Ten Stories. But, oh boy, was I proven wrong. They really went back to their [A>B] Life roots because this album is pissed off. It was very refreshing to hear such an album coming off the coattails of Ten Stories and especially It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All A Dream! It's Alright. Aaron is just as troubled as ever, and he wears it on his sleeve rather than clever metaphors. With themes like the death of his father, his newly-kindled marriage, and more lyrics of him putting himself down. It seems he feels so inadequate, that it even sickens him, so out came a bunch of angry songs. With that said, I can't wait for what they'll release next.
KEY TRACKS:
Watermelon Ascot
Mexican War Streets
Lilac Queen | 3 | | mewithoutYou Catch For Us the Foxes
While Brother, Sister sits as their magnum opus, then Catch For Us The Foxes is definitely their cult classic. Straight up, this album is just depressing, but it makes for such a banger. There isn't a bad song on this album, and it's here that they really found their niche with their style of writing. Aaron's lyrics also take on a much mature nature, with themes of death, his push/pull with religion, all the way to his self-deprecation and hatred of himself. You could read and interpret these lyrics many ways, but it's all in how YOU take it that matters.
(Note: This is also when Aaron really starts to use a lot of Morrissey/The Smiths references, in which I absolutely love since I'm a huge Morrissey fan.)
KEY TRACKS:
January 1979
Disaster Tourism
Four Word Letter (Pt. 2) | 2 | | mewithoutYou A to B: Life
This album is a bit of a different breed for the "typical" sound of mewithoutYou. Full of wailing and dirty guitars, a tortured vocal delivery, and the pure raw feeling. While it's lyrics aren't too much to write about (Aaron has even admitted that as this time he just wanted to impress girls), the music alone is enough to make you feel anguished, sometimes a little sad, and just fucking rowdy. This was my first exposure to mewithoutYou, so maybe it's high on this list just based off my undying love for the album. I'll be seeing them play this album in it's entirety in a few weeks, so if I happen to seem invisible from this forum, it's cause I probably died.
KEY TRACKS:
Bullet To Binary
Be Still, Child
Silencer | 1 | | mewithoutYou Brother, Sister
Anyone who's a fan of mewithoutYou will more than likely say it's their magnum opus, and I agree. Brother, Sister was the album mewithoutYou perfected their musical craft on, and it shows throughout each and every track. All the way from "Messes Of Men" to the glorious "In A Sweater Poorly Knit", the album stays consistent with the heartfelt delivery every member of the band brings. You can hear just how much work this band put into this album. The driving guitar of Mike Weiss, Rickie's bombastic drumming, Greg's funky and jazzy basslines, and of course, Aaron Weiss. While some aren't a fan of his vocal style, his lyricism makes up for it. The man is a poet, an intelligent being, and an overall amazing guy. There should be more Aaron Weiss's in the world.

10.05.17 | Oh, man, we are way off.
My best to 'worst':
Brother, Sister
Ten Stories
Pale Horses
Catch For Us The Foxes
It's All Crazy...
A --> B Life
I Never Said I Was Brave | dbizzles
10.05.17 | Yeah, good write-ups, by the way. I'm also a huge fan- EASILY one of my favorite bands. | cold
10.05.17 | Thanks dude! Yeah, whenever I have a discussion about mewithoutYou with friends, my opinion about Ten Stories usually doesn't go over well, haha. It's not a bad album, by any means, I just think there are better albums. But really, EVERY album is amazing. | cold
10.05.17 | Also, I know I didn't include Pale Horses: Appendix. The re-imagining of some of the songs is really cool and all, but I felt like I couldn't include it as part of the list. It's sorta like "Other Stories", just a sister "EP" to Pale Horses. But don't sleep on it, "Chapel Cross Towns" is utterly beautiful. | dbizzles
10.05.17 | Yeah, I dig the appendix too, but it shouldn't be ranked here.
Man, Bear's Vision of St. Agnes and the story is one of the best moments in music, period. | cold
10.05.17 | Dude, Bear's Vision is my favorite song from Ten Stories, hands down. I would go as far to say it's one of their best songs overall.
| elliootsmeuth
10.05.17 | Switch Pale Horses and Ten Stories, and maybe switch A-->B: Life, and you've got it dead on. | Drifter
10.05.17 | I was waiting for lethal to go into this thread lol | brosephmcbrah
10.05.17 | 3, 1, 4, 6, 5, 2, 7 | cold
10.05.17 | Hey, we all can’t be into the same music and that’s okay 👍🏻 | Sinternet
10.05.17 | nice ranking! i would bump foxes up to 1st but apart from that pretty much agreed
also nice you get to see the a-b tour, when i saw them they were phenomenal | dbizzles
10.05.17 | Lethal has great taste- except when it comes to mwY. I tried to roast his 5's the first time I saw his profile headline and I can't.
By the way, when did you get into mwY? Was it early on in their career, middle later? | cold
10.05.17 | Early on, a little bit before Foxes came out. A buddy of mine was super into them and would go to their potlucks and stuff. The first song I heard was “Everything Was Beautiful And Nothing Hurt”, which is an underrated song if you ask me. | LethalPaintball
10.05.17 | I agree that my taste is great but my taste in mwY is especially great | cold
10.06.17 | @lethalpaintball "mewithoutyou is actually the worst band ever conceived"
lololol, did you change your profile in light of this list? Or was it already like that? The latter would be hilarious. | LethalPaintball
10.06.17 | that's been my review name for over a month now | cold
10.06.17 | ¯_(ツ)_/¯ | cold
11.20.17 | Just wanted to say I went and saw the [A-B] Life show last night and it was the most lifeless show and now I'm a real sadboi. | dbizzles
11.20.17 | RIP | cold
08.13.18 | BUMP IN ANTICIPATION OF THE NEW ALBUM | Demon of the Fall
08.13.18 | Brother, Sister isn't on Spotify much to my dismay, keep meaning to check it | Slex
08.13.18 | 6 is 1 eat a butt | cold
10.05.18 | New album is out today, and I made this list exactly one year ago today as well, what a coincidence. I should really update this to include [untitled] and [Untitled]. | heyadam
10.05.18 | 6 better have grown on you lol | cold
10.05.18 | I still love it, but in the grand scope of their albums it’s still low on the totem pole for me. Bear’s Vision is still one of the greatest songs they’ve ever written. | JohnnyoftheWell
10.05.18 | Yesss add the new ones! Which parts of Ten Stories would you do away with btw? That disc is my second fave mwY after Pale Horses (haven't heard [Untilted]) | cold
10.05.18 | I think Bears Vision should’ve been the last song, and All Circles should’ve been an intro of some sort (in the vein of Pale Horse). Four Fires should’ve been on the album, while Aubergine should’ve been on Other Stories. I know it’s supposed to fit the concept, I’m just saying in regards to individual songs. | JohnnyoftheWell
10.05.18 | Fair enough, I can agreed that Aubergine is probably the weakest. All Circles as an epilogue does fit very nicely though imo, it feels like Bear's Vision concludes the album but All Circles eases the listener out | cold
10.05.18 | It would’ve been cool if All Circles had two short versions that bookended the album, sorta like the Spider songs from Brother, Sister | JohnnyoftheWell
10.05.18 | Oooh yeah, that would have been wonderful |
