1Traitrs
Rites And Ritual

UniqueUnivers's rec
CURRENT COMPETITION SCORE: 22.9
Con: After the first few songs, I realized that this album would be very consistent and I was unfortunately right. This isn’t to say that this is a bad thing, but it’s somewhat frustrating to listen to something that has so much potential squander any climactic moments in favor of mood consistency. With that being said. I do enjoy the overall sounds on this album and the standout tracks are worth revisiting (namely Youth Cults). It reminds me of The Twilight Sad but all out post punk, which is cool but I 3.5d TWS. 3.7/5
2Traitrs
Rites And Ritual

Neeka: While Traitrs may struggle to find a unique sound, they efficiently deal out a sonically pleasing debut album filled to the brim with dark atmospheres and captivating melodies. While it might not be the most original album ever, songs like “Lya” and “Witch Trails” offer enough that you’ll come back to it again. That being said, the album does seem to run a bit out of steam by the end of it all. 3.7/5

Track Ratings: Witch Trials: 8 -, Youth Cults: 7.5 +, Burnt Offerings: , Lya: 8.5 -, Gallows Hill: 7.5 +, Savior: 7 +, Heretic: 7 +
3New order
Power, Corruption and Lies

Tyler.'s rec
CURRENT COMPETITION SCORE: 24.2
Con: I was a bit nervous about this rec since I know New Order and I know I don’t dig the electronic-y, drone post punk that these guys thrive in, but I went in with an open mind. First song was great and I immediately fell in love with the vocals and lyrics, yet after a couple more songs I soon realized that this was a formula based album, and if you’re an extremely impatient person like me, then this album with frustrate the shit out of you. Sure these guys are extremely talented, but other than the opening track and Ecstasy, every song on here was successful in boring me to the extreme with their repetitive electronic ramblings and uninspired vocals. 2.9/5
4New Order
Power, Corruption and Lies

Neeka: The album has a unique touch but it sticks too close to the same melodies and sounds throughout. It’s bad enough that the songs are repetitive, but on first listen it’s hard to even tell some of them apart. Still, none of the songs here are bad, simply redundant at worst. Songs like “Age of Consent” and “Ecstasy” are in the minority that capitalize on their monotonous fashion by elaborating on a basic riff and adding different styles and instruments to it over the course of the song. Overall, some moments are great, others seem just plain unnecessary. 3.2/5

Track Ratings: Age of Consent: 7.5 +, We All Stand: 7 -, The Village: 6.5 +, 5-8-6: 6 +, You Silent Face: 6 -, Ultraviolence: 6 +, Ecstasy: 7.5 -, Leave Me Alone: 7 -

teamster's rec
CURRENT COMPETITION SCORE: 22.1
Con: I came in a bit suspicious, but as soon as the vocalist started singing I knew I would adore this album. It’s like a crazy, dark mashup of Animal Collective vocals, Palm-esque guitar riffs, and post punk production and atmosphere. I really enjoyed almost all of these songs but the album does start to get a bit old once the last few songs play, but at 9 songs it’s really such an easy listen. Very impressed with this rec and I will be jamming this more. 4.1/5
6Great Ytene
Locus

Neeka: While other albums from the 80s sounded like they could have been recorded now, this album recorded this year sounded like it could’ve been from the 80s. This is a double-edged sword, as this style adds some credibility to the music in the post-punk genre, but it also immediately dates the music and makes it sound more like it’s imitating than creating a new sound. On one hand you have the promising vibrance of “Mono Aware,” and on the other you have the unappetizing “Electric Pulses.” Needless to say, it’s a mixed bag. 3.0/5

Track Ratings: Mono Aware: 7.5 -, George Street: 7 +, Cruel Desires: 7.5 -, Locus: 6 +, Wanness: 6.5 +, Electric Pulses: 5.5 +, Fixed Victim: 6.5 -, Physical Warmth: 6.5 +, Appetite: 6.5 +
