| Saw Kayo Dot last night
Of all the (underground) bands in the world, my friends and I ended up organizing a gig for Kayo Dot here in Timisoara, Romania. I am not a big fan and aside from their latest two records, I only listened to random tracks off previous stuff. Anyway, Plastic House on Base of Sky and Coffins on Io are cool albums, but need quite some patience to sink in (especially the former). After finding them a window for the van (someone tried to rob them in Zagreb apparently and broke their side window), found out they were super sweet guys. Gig was definitely one of the weirdest I have ever been to (lots of abstract stuff) and was very heavy. The new stuff works very well live, because it's more dynamic (a good portion of the synths are pre-recorded as they are only 3 people touring at the moment). Also, the Hubardo stuff was really crazy live and Mortality of Doves was the highlight. They still have a dozen dates or so left to play and are heading to Western Europe. Be sure to catch them live, it's worth it!
With the help of Setlist.fm, this should be the setlist (sorry, I'm not too accustomed to the older songs). | 1 | | Kayo Dot Plastic House on Base of Sky
Brittle Urchin - really nice opener | 2 | | Kayo Dot Hubardo
And He Built Him a Boat - very loud, but really interesting overall | 3 | | Kayo Dot Coffins on Io
The Assassination of Adam - crazy loud and abstract. this and the previous one were definitely a test for those who don't know them | 4 | | Kayo Dot Plastic House on Base of Sky
Magnetized - a lot more dynamic live, sounded really cool | 5 | | Kayo Dot Plastic House on Base of Sky
Amalia's Theme - same with this one. at this point I knew I had to get the new album (also bought a T-Shirt with the cover, which looks really cool) | 6 | | Kayo Dot Coffins on Io
The Mortality of Doves - this one was the biggest highlight. sounded so epic and it's a bit more melodic than the others, making it stand out even more | 7 | | Kayo Dot Hubardo
Passing the River - again divisive stuff. very dramatic | 8 | | Kayo Dot Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue
Gemini Becoming the Tripod - crazy encore. the live version features a sharper guitar tone and the finale was insane | |

08.31.16 | Im gonna miss them on this tour because of work which im bummed about but Ive seen them a bunch of times. Always amazing. Their musicianship is just ridiculous. Met them a few times too, allways remembered me and real nice guys that sucks about the van nearly broken into again. Happened a few times here in Europe. | insomniac15
08.31.16 | I've listened to Choirs and it's really cool. They focused on the new stuff and Toby said he's not listening to much metal these days.
More and more bands get robbed these days. It sucks real bad, especially when everything is rented | laughingman22
08.31.16 | Saw them during the Hubardo tour. Toby and gang were super nice, they spent time socializing with everyone in the crowd between bands. | insomniac15

09.04.16 | wouldnt be stoked with nothing from choirs | TalonsOfFire
09.04.16 | They said playing Choirs live means they'd have to omit sections of the songs because there's too much instrumentation for the number of players they have touring, and the small spaces they play. | insomniac15
09.04.16 | They are 3 touring at the moment and even for the new stuff, which Toby mentioned was made for this line-up, there were pre-recorded parts. Anyhow, PHOBOS sounds sharper live! | TalonsOfFire
