Saw Kayo Dot last night

Of all the (underground) bands in the world, my friends and I ended up organizing a gig for Kayo Dot here in Timisoara, Romania. I am not a big fan and aside from their latest two records, I only listened to random tracks off previous stuff. Anyway, Plastic House on Base of Sky and Coffins on Io are cool albums, but need quite some patience to sink in (especially the former). After finding them a window for the van (someone tried to rob them in Zagreb apparently and broke their side window), found out they were super sweet guys. Gig was definitely one of the weirdest I have ever been to (lots of abstract stuff) and was very heavy. The new stuff works very well live, because it's more dynamic (a good portion of the synths are pre-recorded as they are only 3 people touring at the moment). Also, the Hubardo stuff was really crazy live and Mortality of Doves was the highlight. They still have a dozen dates or so left to play and are heading to Western Europe. Be sure to catch them live, it's worth it! With the help of Setlist.fm, this should be the setlist (sorry, I'm not too accustomed to the older songs).
1Kayo Dot
Plastic House on Base of Sky

Brittle Urchin - really nice opener
2Kayo Dot
Hubardo

And He Built Him a Boat - very loud, but really interesting overall
3Kayo Dot
Coffins on Io

The Assassination of Adam - crazy loud and abstract. this and the previous one were definitely a test for those who don't know them
4Kayo Dot
Plastic House on Base of Sky

Magnetized - a lot more dynamic live, sounded really cool
5Kayo Dot
Plastic House on Base of Sky

Amalia's Theme - same with this one. at this point I knew I had to get the new album (also bought a T-Shirt with the cover, which looks really cool)
6Kayo Dot
Coffins on Io

The Mortality of Doves - this one was the biggest highlight. sounded so epic and it's a bit more melodic than the others, making it stand out even more
7Kayo Dot
Hubardo

Passing the River - again divisive stuff. very dramatic
8Kayo Dot
Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue

Gemini Becoming the Tripod - crazy encore. the live version features a sharper guitar tone and the finale was insane
