What's This About the Olympics?
In honor of the Olympic Games, I've used the concept of "10 out of 10" to generate this list of my 10 favorite songs by a random 10 of my favorite bands. Also included in this list are two album ranking, as well: one of an album with 10 songs, and one of an album called "Ten" (which, for some reason, has 11 songs). I realize that it's a really long list, but your opinions are definitely appreciated! |
1 | Bad Religion Anesthesia
One of the best Bad Religion songs ever created! |
2 | American Jesus
I'd officially put this as the overall best song Bad Religion has ever written, in terms of recognition, fan favoritism and accessibility. Might have something to do with the fact that both Mr. Brett and Greg Graffin wrote parts of it. Also has their best music video. |
3 | Sinister Rouge |
4 | Come Join Us
Lyrically, Greg's best song ever, IMO. |
5 | You
First one I ever heard from these guys (thank you, Mr. Hawk....) |
6 | Heroes and Martyrs |
7 | Broken
A somewhat overlooked song from "The Process of Belief," but one that I can heavily relate to. |
8 | I Want To Conquer The World |
9 | Who We Are
Check out the fan-made video on YouTube (Conflageration Media). Better than a lot of official BR vids, to be sure ;-) |
10 | Boot Stamping On A Human Face Forever |
11 | Demon Hunter Undying
Strange number #1 for this band, I realize, but I love it! |
12 | I Play Dead |
13 | The Awakening |
14 | Through The Black |
15 | Not Ready To Die |
16 | Incision
For some reason, it's my favorite song from their newest record |
17 | My Heartstrings Come Undone
Still their best ballad-y song |
18 | Storm The Gates of Hell
I just love the intensity |
19 | My Throat Is An Open Grave |
20 | Not I |
21 | Dream Theater Scene Two, Pt. II: Strange Deja Vu
I only have three c.d.'s by these guys, and you can easily tell which three they are ;-). Why this is my favorite song of theirs...well, the world may never know... |
22 | Scene Three, Pt. II: Fatal Tragedy |
23 | Panic Attack |
24 | Metropolis, Pt. I: The Miracle and the Sleeper |
25 | Octovarium |
26 | Pull Me Under
The greatest hit. |
27 | Scene Four: Beyond This Life |
28 | Never Enough |
29 | Scene Six: Home
Notice how the "Metro, pt. II" songs are in order? Scene two, three, four, then six. Heh heh... |
30 | Take the Time |
31 | Eminem Rock Bottom |
32 | Still Don't Give A F*** |
33 | Criminal
The skit in the middle of the song is one of my favorite moments on the c.d. |
34 | Stan |
35 | Lose Yourself
All things considered, this is probably his best non-Slim-Shady song. |
36 | The Way I Am
Lyrical prowess up the wazoo... |
37 | Without Me |
38 | Bitch Please II
For the most part, I like all of his songs that feature collaborations with a shitload of other MC's |
39 | Business
This is actually a strange list. There are a handful of songs from "The Eminem Show" that, at any given time, could hop onto this list. |
40 | '97 Bonnie and Clyde
And now my death sentence for not including "Kim".... |
41 | He Is Legend Eating A Book
I think I mentioned this song in passing in my review of "I Am Hollywood," and it was at the very end, but it's very much my favorite song by the band. (Oddly enough, "The Creature Is Walking" was mentioned more than any other song, but it's not on this list). |
42 | China White |
43 | Either They Decorated For Christmas Early Or They're All Dead
The first HIL song I ever heard. |
44 | The Pot-Bellied Goddess |
45 | Dinner With A Gypsy |
46 | Suck Out The Poison |
47 | I Am Hollywood
WATCH WHERE YOU POINT YOUR FINGER!!! |
48 | The Seduction
The video is hilarious! |
49 | Goldie Torn Locks |
50 | The Walls Have Teeth |
51 | Muse Bliss |
52 | Stockholm Syndrome
Fact: I watched the entire H.A.A.R.P. concert DVD on YouTube, and my love for this song stemmed from that. I finally got my hands on "Absolution," and it's just as good. |
53 | New Born
My REAL first introduction to Muse |
54 | Knights Of Cydonia
My first official introduction to Muse, thanks to Guitar Hero III, of course (with a bit of help from a review of Matchbook Romance's "Voices" here on Sputnik). |
55 | Citizen Erased |
56 | Take A Bow
Arpeggiating Crescendo!...or Crescendo-ing Arpeggios! Whatever it might be called, it works for me! |
57 | Hypermusic |
58 | Supermassive Black Hole
It grew on me big time... |
59 | Map of the Problematique |
60 | Apocalypse Please |
61 | Nas (Illmatic) The World Is Yours
One of the greatest hip-hop songs I have ever heard in my life. 'Nuff said. |
62 | Life's A Bitch |
63 | Represent
Represent! Represent! |
64 | Halftime |
65 | N.Y. State of Mind |
66 | Memory Lane (Sittin' In Da Park) |
67 | One Love |
68 | It Ain't Hard To Tell |
69 | The Genesis
Just a skit |
70 | One Time 4 Your Mind |
71 | Pearl Jam (Ten) Black
One of the best songs of the 90's |
72 | Jeremy |
73 | Porch |
74 | Even Flow |
75 | Once |
76 | Oceans |
77 | Garden |
78 | Alive |
79 | Deep |
80 | Release
And by process of elimination, you ought to be able to figure out which song I like the least on this album. |
81 | Red Hot Chili Peppers Parallel Universe
Perhaps I'll come under fire for having this song at number, but I love the lack of pretentiousness |
82 | Higher Ground
Best. Bass-line. Ever. |
83 | Can't Stop |
84 | Wet Sand |
85 | Give It Away
Way too funky to be ignored |
86 | By The Way |
87 | Fight Like A Brave
It's a Hollywood jam.... |
88 | Rollercoaster of Love
Yeah, that's right. The song that appeared on the Beavis and Butthead soundtrack. I love it (better than the original, in fact). |
89 | Scar Tissue |
90 | Otherside |
91 | System of a Down Toxicity
Not because it was a single (because I never heard it on the radio until after I already liked it), but because it's just a great song. |
92 | Forest |
93 | B. Y. O. B. |
94 | Soldier Side
Welcome to the soldier's side, where there's no one here but me... |
95 | Aerials
The eyes of the kid in the video freak me out worse than the people in Soundgarden's 'Black Hole Sun' video... |
96 | Question! |
97 | Ego-Brain
My first favorite song by these guys |
98 | Holy Mountain |
99 | Old School Hollywood |
100 | Spiders
'Chop Suey' would be #101... |
|
