08.11.08 | hey, there's only 1 person allowed to have a blatant mars volta reference user name
Lady Radiator-Bounce Energy Hear Me Out
3-The End is Begun
Coheed and Cambria-In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3
Dream Theater-Metropolis Pt 2
don't listen to Thrice because their fans will be coming
Tool-Aenima
NeWBReeD-Child of the Sun
Devin Townsend-Ocean Machine
The Devin Townsend Band-Accelerated Evolution
Rate Some albums and i can give you some more but you'll like all of these and even thrice probably i just hate them, the ones after my thrice warning aren't necessarily the same as the bands you like but are something ul like and are somewhat an extension of the same genres and gateways to Metal (don't like it now? hang out a while) | BallsToTheWall
08.11.08 | 5. 1997 I guess, also Lydia. Eyes Set To Kill fits post hardcore and 5 with duel female clean/ harsh male vocals. | Masochist
08.12.08 | Hmmm...so yeah, apparently after "The Alchemy Index" came out, Thrice has gotten a bit more hate around here due to us ravenous fans who whore them out to any fan of Thursday or At The Drive-In...
Well, how about that! You're a fan of both. Listen to Thrice if you haven't/don't already (earlier works like "Illusion of Safety" or "Identity Crisis" would probably suit you better).
Other than that obvious recommend, try Boysetsfire out, as well. "Tomorrow Come Today" is an amazing album. Also, if you're a fan of Dashboard Confessional, you ought to try Chris Carraba's earlier work with the band Further Seems Forever ("The Moon Is Down"). Also...listen to better grunge. Nirvana's cool and all, but try Pearl Jam or Alice In Chains, too...
Other recommends include:
Fair To Midland - "Fables From A Mayfly: What I Tell You..."
Secret and Whisper - "Great White Whale"
Hot Water Music - "Fuel for the Hate Game"
Dredg - "El Ceilo"
Bad Religion - "New America," "No Substance," or "The Gray Race" (perhaps you might enjoy them a bit more then their more hardcore punk stuff. If not, grab "No Control," "Suffer," "Generator," or "The Empire Strikes First")
And I second: Tool, Dream Theater, and Coheed and Cambria. That's enough, I think. | Cuban Pete
08.12.08 | gotta love masochist's super informative list comments | Mendigo
08.12.08 | ok, it seems like I have to live in a world where everyone loves those rather shitty Mars Volta :(
However, for At the Drive-In and Thursday get something like Thrice (yes, Thrice... and I'm not a fanboy, believe me), Fugazi, Cursive, Glassjaw, Blood Brothers, Coheed and Cambria (are also rather hated here for no real reason) Trail of Dead and especially Refused. and if you wanna have something even more challenging, try Circle Takes the Square.
for Bloc Party and Strokes try stuff like Interpol, dEUS, dredg, The Vines, and maybe Joy Division.
I don't know 5 btw.
oh, and for the proggier and more experimental side (which Mars volta are on after all), try Oceansize, Porcupine Tree, maybe Time of Orchids and if you want some older and more "classic" bands Mars Volta were influenced by try King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra.
hope that's gonna help.
oh, and welcome ;) | P13
08.12.08 | ^ maybe people on the site like the mars volta because they are good. | Mendigo
08.12.08 | or maybe because they believe they are good.
nevermind, doesn't matter anyway... I simply don't like their music. | lukadore
09.13.08 | hmmm. well i luv both the strokes and bloc party albums you like.... a storkes like band would be the libertines, and i reckon you should give Biffy Clyro a go, and Idlewild - the remote part...
Hope you like them |
