If You Want To Get Into These Bands, Try...

The best album for getting into each band (not necessarily the best album BY the band, however).
1AC/DC
Highway To Hell

Bon Scott's performance alone makes this the reason I got into AC/DC. Back In Black is slightly harder to listen to (probably thanks to the vocals), so this is the one I would recommend for anyone who wants to get into AC/DC.
2Radiohead
Hail To The Thief

Yes, I'm serious. This isn't as weird as albums like Kid A, but not as typical as The Bends. If the opener, 2+2=5 doesn't get you addicted to Radiohead (at least after the 3rd listen) then few songs will. If this doesn't work for you, try OK Computer.
3 Nine Inch Nails
Broken

Not too long, unlike certain later NIN albums, and balances somewhere between Industrial and Rock. It may be off-putting because it's so heavy and in-your-face, but after a couple of listens, I can't see how anyone could not want to buy another NIN album.
4 Nirvana
Nirvana (Greatest Hits)

Before anyone says it's cheating to put a greatest hits album on here, I'll explain why I did. Would anyone here really put In Utero or Bleach on this list? Unplugged is too mellow for an introduction for a band like this, and Nevermind is too simple and commercial, which will put many people off. This album therefore has to be my choice for this list.
5Alice In Chains
Facelift

Just as listenable as Dirt (perhaps even more so), several songs are absolute classics, and the whole album is an excellent one. It's a good introduction, whether or not it's AICs best release.
6A Perfect Circle
Thirteenth Step

Beautiful. Just beautiful. The album is difficult to switch off at any point, even The Nurse Who Loved Me has some people who really like it. I've never met anyone who doesn't like this album, and it's a great starting point for a band who have an unfortunately small catalogue of songs.
7 Metallica
The Black Album

Not too harsh sounding, for those who don't like thrash metal that much. The production is spot on compared to the previous albums, and the songwriting is much better than on the later ones.
8Jay-Z
The Black Album

Yes, this was a little bit of a joke inclusion. But it is my recommendation for new Jay-Z fans- More listenable than earlier work, without being too commercial either. His lyricism is top-notch, and it's a great buy for all hip-hop fans.
9Nas
Illmatic

The lack of bad tracks makes this album the essential Nas album. Few people need this recommendation, but just in case someone needs a starting point, here it is.
10John Frusciante
Shadows Collide With People

Experimental and easy listening at the same time, I believe that Frusciante has created his best work here, and that includes work he has done with other bands. A really spectacular CD, nearly every moment is a highlight!
