Wildhearts Faves
The band that defined my music tastes, and were amazingly consistent throughout their career (save for ...Must Be Destroyed!), and the fact that pretty much all of their b-sides were as high quality as their album tracks means this list could have gone on much further... |
1 | The Wildhearts Inglorious
A song that distils everything that was glorious about The Wildhearts. Riff after wonderful riff, glorious harmonies and Metallica-sized heaviness all wrapped up in almost 8 of the best minutes anywhere. |
2 | Caffeine Bomb
Ginger's punk roots worn on his sleeve. So good they re-released their debut album to include it! |
3 | I Wanna Go Where The People Go
P.H.U.Q. is, for me, a slightly underwhelmig album in comparison, but it opens with an almost unmatchable high. The NY filmed video is a blast too. |
4 | The Miles Away Girl
Fave track from their best album. Earth vs is just unbelievably consistent. |
5 | Sky Babies
Nearly 12 minutes long, and doesn't get close to repetetive once. By the end, it almost feels like about 5 songs have played, but they complement each other perfectly to fit one giant riff-a-thon. |
6 | Everlone
The first time Ginger unveils his ability to seamlessly twist one riff into another over and over again. |
7 | If Life Is Like A Lovebank I Want An Overdraft
Crazy title, crazier song. |
8 | My Baby Is A Headfuck
Piano driven rock n roll, featuring the genius of Willie Dowling for the first of many times. |
9 | The Jackson Whites
Latter day WH matching the quality of the early days. |
10 | Shut Your Fucking Mouth (And Use Your Fucking Brain)
Another top title for an absolute punk blast. |
11 | Geordie In Wonderland
Wonderfule ode to the North East, with a mandolin. |
12 | S.I.N. In Sin
Love these punky numbers. |
13 | Suckerpunch
The most immediate track from their debut. Calm and cold as a witches tit? |
14 | Weekend (5 Long Days)
Was always a humungous live track. |
15 | Sick Of Drugs
Lyrics changed when played live depending on the topical tabloid hysteria. |
16 | Nita Nitro
Choppy guitar riff heaven. |
17 | Do The Channel Bop
The expected awesome riffage, but a children's choir?! |
18 | 29 x The Pain
Always fun to spot the music references within. |
19 | TV Tan
As a kid, was my favourite track. Still great. |
20 | Nothing Ever Changes But The Shoes
Ah, the nostalgia... |
21 | Slaughtered Authors
S/T album relived the awesome 8 minute riffathons. This is the most distinctiveof those tracks. |
22 | The Snake, The Lion, The Monkey And The Spider
Free download, Chutzpah kind-of bonus track. All sorts of crazy and off-kilter riffy goodness. |
23 | Liberty Cap
Brooding and menacing bassline. |
24 | Anthem
The drop near the end will destroy any inferior speakers! |
