01.19.16 | Good choice! Im also trying to save up for a tube amp too. I'm looking into the Blackstar HT40 personally, because I love the lows in their amps. the one orange amp i tried was incredible! a micro terror plugged directly into a marshall 4x12 sounds absolutely fantastic. i've heard good things about the tiny terror though. |

01.19.16 | check my most recent list for stuff like Gunship and a part 2 with another 30 artists has been delayed but is coming soon! |

01.19.16 | Vox usually has some decent ones although I'm not sure what their current lineup is.
Blackstar have some great ones as well.
Vox was my first choice but the one I wanted was sold out when I went to buy it so instead I'm using a Laney Cub10, smallish little 10 watt tube amp that I'm very happy with although you won't get much distortion out of it without pedals. It handles pedals superbly though if you have them. It's small but if you're only planning on using it at home, then it has more power than you'll ever need. If you're planning on playing gigs then it might not have enough power for you although I imagine that micced up it could potentially hold it's own. |

01.19.16 | Props for 3.
I really want a tube amp as well. I haven't really done any research though, because I can't commit to one right now with all the other crap I have to pay for. Maybe later in the year though. |

01.19.16 | Prices actually aren't too bad if you're just looking at a small combo amp for home use. Mine was around 300-350 CAD brand new when I got it a couple of years back. |
DinosaurJones
01.19.16 | I'd be using it to play out, though if I run it through my 4x12, I probably wouldn't need a very big one. One of my friends uses the Orange Tiny Terror, and that's more than enough to push the relatively small venues we usually play at. |

01.19.16 | @Dinosaur if you want an affordable tube amp, i'd advise you go with a micro terror by orange. it's $150 and hella loud. killer tone as well. Its an amp head, so you'd need to buy a cabinet, but if your gigging you could get a really sick 4x12 and it would sound absolutely incredible. |
BandNewbac
01.19.16 | Depends on your budget and the sound youre after. If you're on a small budget I can't recommend the bugera v22 enough. The tiny terror will 100% not give you an organic tone if you're playing with a tele I don't know where that came from. |
BandNewbac
01.19.16 | also micro terror isn't a tube amp and it is barely powerful anough to keep up with a drum kit blasting full volume.
it has a pre amp valve and that's it. the power amp is fully solid state |

01.19.16 | Yeah, Micro Terrors are tight for what they are, but I wouldn't choose that over a tiny. It sounds like money is a factor in your decision, but I highly recommend getting a separate amp and cab to allow for much cheaper upgrading in the future. I used to have a 4x12 Carvin loaded with some garbage speakers playing through my Peavey Valveking 100 Head, but I recently upgraded to a new 2x12 Mesa Cab that absolutely destroys. Just a suggestion.
I play a Tiny Terror at my friends house with active EMGs in my Ltd, through a cab loaded with a vintage 30 and it sounds killer, but the tones you can squeeze are a little limited. |

01.19.16 | I played the micro (through a Marshall 2x12) and wasn't too impressed, honestly. It was kind of a bummer. I'll have to give the tiny a go sometime. There's no way I'll be able to get anything until after I'm done saving for my wedding, but I've been trying to upgrade from my 350 watt solid state Peavey because I bought it used and it has come to sound much more beat to hell than it did at the store.
I can vouch for the Vox, though I don't have one myself - I played around on one for a while and it had a nice tone and a guitarist I played with for a session had a combo tube Vox that he got a lot of good sound out of. |
DungeonBoy
01.19.16 | Also the Tiny only pushes 15 watts. It can sound great on recordings, but I tried to use it during band practice, and even pushed to full volume, it couldn't be heard over our drummer who beats the heck out of his skins. |

01.20.16 | @Hep Kat I'd love to buy a Vox, ideally an AC15 cuz I don't need that much wattage for mainly home play (and the 15 would be loud enough to gig) but they is pricey, yo. For a first tube, I'd be comfortable springing for something cheaper and playing it/potentially selling it if need be. To my own ears, the Tiny Terror and HRD III sounded sick.
onionbubs - heard great things about Blackstar, and am going to try the Ht5 if I can get my hands on it. thanks for the rec!
Bandnewbac - maybe I don't know the correct way to explain it, but each pickup selection really was dynamic and felt like the true tone of my guitar(pickups) was coming out through the orange. I don't like the limited 'Tone' knob in theory, but in practice it's fun to dial in tones that sound great without spending forever tinkering (and I love tweaking eq personally)
SCREAM! - havent had a chance, but have heard the cleans praised on Laney's by friends who play. I am looking at eventually running pedals through my rig so the Laney is a great shout and I appreciate the rec.

01.28.16 | @DungeonBoy sorry for the mad late reply, but I really appreciate the advice. I'm gonna save up and go for a separate cab/amp, all while looking out for some sweet second hand stuff, as well as sit on the idea of the Tiny Terror and see if it's what I really want. Never hurts to save more, I guess. |

01.28.16 | Thought this was bout headphone amps for a sec whoops :/
Anyways, I'm planning on getting the gf a tube guitar amp this summer for her bday. Any suggestions around 300 bucks or so? |

My Laney Cub10 was around that much when I got it although I'd only rec it if she has a distortion pedal of some sort as the amp alone gets very little distortion.
Otherwise check what Vox has in that range |
